File Transfer From HP To Acer Netbook - Both Use Windows 7 SP1
Jul 9, 2011
I use a HP dv7-1247 x64 and just bought a Acer Netbook 722-BZ197 x64 and both use W7 SP1 Home Premium. I would like to transfer all my files from the HP to the Acer so what is the best possible method to acccomplish this type of operation. I travel quite a bit and I would like to use the netbook instead of the larger laptop.
I have a acer netbook. It won't load windows 7 I just get a message on the bottom of the screen press <F2> go to setup. Without pressing any buttons I get a new screen that says....Intel UNDI, PXE-2.1 (build 082) Copyright (C) 1997-2000 Intel Corporation For Atheros PCIE Ethernet Controller v1.0.0.13(2008/10/15)Check cable connection..!PXE-MOF: Exiting Intel PXE ROM.No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any keyIt's a net book it doesn't have a place for a disk?? When I push any buttons I get a loud alarm
I did a easy transfer from my prime laptop of all my files to a netbook. I would like to eliminate some files from the netbook but I don't know if I do that will I eliminate the files on the laptop also.
I'm trying to diagnose this problem from 3000 miles away over the phone. I am *very* versed in WinXP, but not at all in Windows 7. As such, I am not looking for a perfect solution at this time, but merely some hints to maybe point me in the right direction, or what the next logical steps in diagnosing this might be.Brand new Acer D55 with Windows 7 home, bought and configured around Christmas 2010. It was working fine until the middle of April, when suddenly (during usage, i.e., not overnight or after a reset), the Acer dropped off the wireless network while other computers remained on the same wireless network, and continue to remain even now. This is the only Windows 7 computer on that network. All others are XP. Here is where I came in.
I have been troubleshooting remote wireless woes for almost 10 years, and am quite good at it. My first instinct is to have someone plug the computer into the router directly with an Ethernet cable, thus temporarily getting the computer back online long enough for me to VNC in and find out why the computer's wireless connection died. This has ALWAYS worked. I have never seen a computer, that when plugged physically into a functioning router, didn't come online. So as you can probably guess, the computer didn't come online. The computer has McAfee security installed, and I have seen AV/firewall suites cause problems in computer usage before, but I have never seen one prevent a computer from jumping online.
The biggest concern at this point for me is why the Local Area Connection is failing. But regarding both Local and Wireless connections, here is what I have tried: Physically plugging the computer into the router.- System restoring to 4/16/11, and then again to 3/24/11- Deleting the stored Wireless connection on record, and adding it back- ipconfig /release, /renew, various netsh commandsNot knowing anything about Windows 7, and knowing that I am troubleshooting this remotely
can anyone explain to me on how to do this on my netbook? i tried it so many times installing xp on this bullshit netbook but still i don't know why I'm having hal.dll error. Maybe if someone can show me step by step guide for installing windows 7.
i only just bought a used Acer netbook that is running thet starter win 7...all was working fine for around 5 hours and since then every now and again and for between just a few seconds to having to shut the machine down and restart, the pointer is unstable and jumps to buggery all over the screen...there also appears to be some interference with the touchpad as it is ultra sensitive and the left and right buttons are also dodgy...I have used Acer netbooks before and never had any problems at all...I have seen many threads related to this as soon as I looked it up and am wondering if the is any sort of fix available...I have just found the synaptics box in my netbook and twindled around a little and so far it seems better but this is just how things have been since I got this Acer just 4 days ago.
Recently my netbook took a turn for the worse. I turned it on one day and all it would do is reboot. I ran chkdsk, did memory checks, tried system restores. I did what process of elimination I could do, swapped the hard drive out (it's not the hard drive or a virus on it), I swapped the ram out, it wasn't the ram, I tried to flash the bios, it didn't work. All that ever happens is the system reboots, I see the black windows splash screen and then I'm immediately thrown back to the command prompts for starting from the last good start, etc
I put Win7 on my Netbok (Acer D150) and it runs extremely well, probably because of the extra 1GB of RAM that I put in it. It actually runs better than XP. My only gripe with having Win7 on it is that I cannot use the scroll feature on the touch pad. It's not really important but its nice to use when I am a touchpad fanatic.
Not sure if this is where I should post this or not. A friend brought me their Acer Aspire one, I have tried to get it to boot, but it takes forever, then it gives a hi-low-hi-low beep that sounds like the European sirens. I put Windows 7 on a usb drive and set it to boot from the usb, but it still won't boot. It once came up with a option to repair the Windows 7, but it sat there for 10 minutes doing nothing, then started with the beeps again.
I have an acer netbook, It was giving to as a reward from school. I wanted to re-image my computer and put Windows Xp on it, but the problem is I can not go into the settings such as, the boot login or the F2 option because when it was giving to me that same individual put a Bios password. remove the Bios password so I can enter the F2 option to re-image my netbook?
I just bought captioned lappy off ebay without OS. I want to install Win XP. It has no dvd drive and I don't have an external drive. I have Win XP pro on a cd, and 7 ultimate on a dvd and as well as it's image in my toshiba laptop. I actually intend to follow the instructions to dual boot but my question is how do i install the first OS on a netbook with no optical drive? Also I don't know if it has a restore from partition, I will check when I get home tonight, but I don't think so.
Acer Aspire One ZG5 Intel Atom N270 1.6GHz 1 GB ram (I have an extra 1 gig stick I will add) 160GB hd
I have recently purchased acer netbook d270 and for changing desktop background I have done several registry change. Due to which my netbook starts slowing and sometimes crash. I cant undo my registry change. As I don't know how. But the problem is now I don't want to undo the registry. I want to do factory reset. It doesn't have any recovery management neither alt + f10 at startup shows option for factory reset.
This problem started a week ago, when the Acer Aspire One 532h would not boot. Eventually, even restoring it using the partition failed. I have ordered the Acer recovery discs which will restore it to Win 7 starter. But yesterday, just on a whim, I turned on the netbook and was able to restore it successfully. I then installed Webroot SecureAnywhere Essentials and have run numerous scans that found no threat - so this does not appear to be malware. (The unit had avast! free AV before this trouble started.) I then spent hours installing Win 7 updates using the Windows Update utility on the Acer. However, near the end of the Win updates, Windows crashed and the screen went black again. When this happens, the unit's power stays on; this is not a fan/overheating problem, I don't think.
This a.m., the Acer booted successfully, and I then uninstalled Office and installed Open Office. The unit then "blacked out" again. During this time, I also tried to install Java, since I had been getting a pop-up that it needed to be updated. Java would not install successfully, and the Acer then started "blacking out" several more times. I was finally able to boot it in Safe Mode to turn it off. But it took several attempts.
Rather than running the recovery discs from Acer for Windows 7 Starter, I am considering upgrading to Win 7. Can anyone tell me if this might solve this problem? Or should I just proceed to order an external drive to run the recovery discs?
I just bought a used Acer Aspire One 10.1 netbook and I am having some issues. When I got it the pc needed 17 windows updates done. So I did that but I am not sure all the updates worked properly as the machine shut down but never rebooted after finishing updates. After I turned it back on I tried to connect to the internet through my wireless router (which is working fine for other devices), nothing. So I tried a wired connection, nothing again. The wireless is finding my router it is just not hooking up to the internet. I tried ipconfig/all in the cmd prompt and all it shows is that the media is disconnected??? Does anyone have any ideas as to what is going on? The compute seems to be functioning fine except for the internet
Not sure exactly which forum is best suited for this, but I am using win7 Starter,The past few weeks my netbook has started locking up and needing the battery removed to get it started again. It most often happens in Firefox when writing to the HHD, but not always.I have cloned the HDD to a new Seagate and installed that and the problem continues, so it is not the HDD. I have all current updates for everything here. So, I am thinking it might be one of two things. I have picked up a Virus/Trojan/Worm or it is a hardware fault.I am thinking of buying a new netbook and give up on this one. If I do that, and it is a Virus/Trojan/Worm, there is a good risk of transferring it over to the new netbook when I copy a bunch of data files from my backup USB HDD.Any thoughts on how I can copy stuff to the new netbook without risk of bringing malicious stuff with them?I am thinking maybe copy the files to a Cloud Account then copy from there back to the new netbook. The thinking there is that unless the actual files contain the Virus etc, any other sectors etc on the backup HDD that may contain the Virus code will not be transferred.
I recently backed up my files from my last computer which was running windows xp onto an external hard drive using the files and settings transfer wizard. The files were compressed onto my hard drive as .dat files. Now, when I attempt to restore the files onto my new computer running windows 7, the files are not recognized under.
My last computer is crashed and out of commision. I do not know which service pack it was running. how I can recover my old files?
PC2 is running Windows XP Home Edition - Service Pack 3
Both computers have the same Workgroup PC2 has 2x Hard drives, one of which I have set up as a "Shared" hard drive.PC1 I have changed in 'Advanced sharing settings' - network discovery/public folder sharing/file and printer sharing turned on. Also File sharing connections is on Enable file sharing for devices.. And I have turned off password protected sharing.
I used the Windows 7 Easy Transfer for the first time and much to my surprise it worked without a problem.I previously asked questions of file transfer but after the answers I received I thought there might be a easier way to do this.My situation was migrating files from a laptop HP dv7-1247 x64 to a Netbook Acer 722-BZ197 x64 which both use Windows 7 HP SP1.Inititing the file transfer they utilize the terms from " old computer to new computer on this procedure. There is no mention of Windows 7 and only XP and Vista. Windows 7 was placed on the market 22 months ago but is not included on the instruction. As I proceded with this operation there a three methods available, migrating cable, flash card and network. Since I do not possess the cable nor flash card I selected the network After I intitiated the transfer from my " OLD HP with Windows 7 " it proved me with a code number to be used with the " NEW Acer with Windows 7.Proceeding to tha ACER it asked me for this code which I placed in the box. A new screen appeared but much to my surpise it asked if this transfer is from XP, Vista or Windows 7. I selected the Windows 7 and the complete transfer of my files was accomplished in less then 29 Min.
I took my old desktop HD out and hooked it upto my new Windows 7. teen when I try to even open my 2003 Word Reeume doc it says "Word can not open the document; user does not have access priviliges" It's my resume and all i want to do is copy it to my new comp.
I just a Bluetooth adapter, my 1st PC that has Bluetooth, and i was just wondering how do you send files from my phone to the PCThe only way i can get it to work is if i right click on the Bluetooth logo at the bottom and click receive file. In my opinion it takes forever to send more than 1 file by doing that all the time. Is there another way... If i don't click revive file my phone can not find the PC.
I have 3 computers 2 with windows 7 and 1 with xp. Now I need to share files. There is no problem with windows 7. I can access both the computers having xp and windows 7 and can transfer and share files. But one with xp. I can't see the other 2 computers with windows 7...
3 - Windows 7 Machines (Enterprise & Ultimate) , Tried wire and wireless 1 - Windows 8 64-bit machine 2 New Macbooks (Air and Pro) 1 Mac Mini server (2011 model) - 3TB external HD formatted in OS Journal (default mac) with samba sharing enabled
The macbook's we have connect and transfer large amounts of files just fine to the mac mini. No issues at all, even on wireless. The issue is when trying to transfer files from the Windows machines to the mac mini. You select just one 150mb file to copy over, and it might fail at 30mb or 120mb transferring giving an error like file or path is not available. However you can hit retry a few times and it might continue or restart, sometimes you have to cancel and copy the file over again. It acts like it loses the path, but you can instantly navigate to the server again instantly like there was never an issue. If you select a bunch files to transfer, lets just say like 2000 files, and its a total of 4gb. You will have to hope the retry works when the error happens or click skip and redo the file after. Nothing stands out that is causing this, but it is either an issue with the Mac & Samba transfer, router setting, or a Windows setting / registry issue causing it.I tried to search google, but most things that come up are how to setup sharing from mac to windows. Can't exactly find anyone else talking about this, except I did find 1 thread on Mac Rumors forums talking about it but it just had 2 people say they have the same issue, and 1 person said he had no issues.
Will the Maxtor OneTouch work with Windows 7. I can't get my Dell Laptop to get files. It shows under devices and working properly, but nothing happens. I can't open device or files.
