Explorer.EXE Random Crashes With Faulting Module Name: Ntdll.dll?
Jul 21, 2012
I've been using my Thinkpad w520 with windows 7 64 bit professional for more than a year without any major problem. Recently, the Explorer.exe started crashing occasionally and randomly when I was switching back to a file browser ... The event viewer shows that all the crashes were related to the Faulting module path: C:WindowsSYSTEM32 tdll.dll. The entire message is shown below
I've been having issues with several computers now. All of them Windows 7 Professional 32 bits. The error they're having is the same on each PC: explorer.exe fails and restarts after clicking Ok to the dialog.
I already ran viruschecks and spywarescans. Clean booted. sfc'd. Uninstalled all updates since the week previous to the first error. Created a fresh new profile for the user. Disabled all non-Microsoft shell extensions. Reinstalled Windows. and non on them had made a difference.
The oldest issue is november 6th (there's not a single instance of the error before that date); since then, the issue is happening at least once a day but more like 5-10 times a day. I ran Windbg and for almost all errors it points to "fundisc" module as the culprit, although i don't know what piece of software would be using it. The only updates they had installed are security and critical updates via WSUS.
Faulting application name: explorer.exeFaulting module name: ntdll.dllAny solutionsI've formatted my windows 7 and still goes for the same problem. I've used google and there are lot of people who have this same kind of problem too and no solutions yetAny idea what may cause this? Could there be some services which should be enabled or disabled or something else causing this?
I had no idea where to put this, so I've chosen General.I've had a major issue lately: Every short once in a while, only when I open my primary partition Drive C, explorer.exe freezes and the only way out is to close it.I have no idea why this occurs, and can only really tell that this closing also takes an enormous amount of time.
Been having some crashes. At first they occurred on start up. Claiming the computer wasn't properly shut down. Now today, the other crashes started, with the first happening out of nowhere, the second happening upon starting a video game. I've been without crashes for a while now, only having used my browser(Opera) and copying some files to an external hard drive. As well as the SF tool.I only have 2 dump files available. SF tool file should be in attachments, unless I made a mistake somewhere
Recently, my computer has started freezing while I'm browsing the web. No BSOD or resetting, it just freezes and I have to hold the power button to get it back.I don't think it's over heating, or memory or any of that because I can happily play games hour hours with no issues.I can watch films,or streaming media for hours and it's fine. It only crashes while surfing or talking on Steam.
MSI P67C45 (still haven't got my B3 replacement :O) i5 2500k (standard clock, with the 'turobo boost' ability engaged) 4gb (2x2) G.Skill Ripjaws X (I think. Can't remember freqs but I'll dig it out if somehow important) Nvidia GTX260 Corsair F240 SSD (lucky competition win ) with the OS on
1TB HDD - got the pagefile set up on this drive so I don't burn the SSD
I recently got a Kensington HyperX SH100S3B/120G SSD. I've been getting these stange BSODs. It doesn't happen during any particular kind of activity, usually it's just browsing the web or writing documents or something.
Every time the BSODs happen, for some reason the boot order switches from the SSD to my backup drive, and I have to go into the bios and change it. But other than that, my hard drive seems to be perfectly fine functioning afterwards...what's causing this??
All my components are pretty new, so I don't think hardware failure is very likely here. I've thought maybe I should update my bios? But I'm not sure honestly. My mobo is H67MA-E35-B3 LGA 1155 H67 mATX Intel Motherboard.
I'm having a problem with a new computer I bought with Windows 7 (64bit) installed. At seemingly random points in time it will crash on me completely. I've managed to find out from a dumpfile that the likely cause of this problem is something called Rdyboost.sys I've managed to find it listed as a driver in windows/System32. Apart from that though I'm not sure how to find it, and was wondering.
My brother has been complaining that his PC shuts down randomly. I check the events log and find a very large list of critical Kernel power 41 errors, with no other error before them most of the times. I can't seem to find any pattern to them, so I asume it's hardware related. There's also nothing in particular he does that triggers it. I've runed memtest86 and AIDA64 stress test while checking temperatures with nothing strange, changed the PSU, formatted and clean installed Windows again, still the same. I'm about to surrender with this...
every time i try to install windows 7 on my new build, i do a clean install, however it spends about a second on the copying files part, then waits a few minutes before it starts expanding files. it hangs at 0% for a few more minutes then it will start accelerating. it will crash at random points while it is "expanding files".
the crashes vary, sometimes the display will explode and look lagged out then look like small tiles, the display sometimes turns red where shadows are as well, it also likes to just freeze. it frequently likes to freeze at 76 or 46%.
i had 7 installed one time when i kept my mouse moving constantly throughout the installation, but then the freezes would happen when i would boot into normal windows, but not safe mode.
I am experiencing some disturbing shut downs on my pc. This has been plaguing me for about 6 months now and I can't take it anymore. Just to be clear, these crashes do not provide a BSOD and therefore no error code for me to research and correct on my own. In the last two days, this has happened 4-5 times, and most often while watching streaming video online (but not always). Without warning, everything will lock up (sometimes this is accompanied by a terrible sound emitted from the speakers - presumably looping audio from the video i was watching). The computer then reboots itself without my involvement.

So far, I have asked around and most people point to my graphics card overheating, or a very dirty (dusty) pc as a likely cause. Firstly, my computer is generally kept very clean, and I am monitoring my GPU temps and they are usually WELL within normal ranges (frankly it runs very cool). I have called EVGA for support, and they told me they had not heard of this problem before. They had me run a bunch of gpu stress tests, all of which provided no clue (they were clean) as to what could be wrong. Someone else told me to make sure my RAM was properly seated. I did check that and I can't see any seating issues.

Since about 4 months ago, my computer has crashed randomly. Every time this happens, I would try to reboot it, and it would start for between one second and five minutes before crashing again. It would continue to refuse to start like this for 10 minutes to three days at one point. It started four months ago, and occurs fairly rarely. Since the first "series" of crashes, it's only happened five or six times, with anytime between a week and a month separating the crashes. My computer has just crashed again, and as expected, is not opening right now, so I'm typing this from my tablet.if there's any specific information needed please tell me and I'd be happy to gather it once my computer decides to start up again.
Edit: More info - Windows 7, computer is about 10 months old, and I do this have a warranty on it. A curious note, the light on my wireless adapter remains on after the computer has crashes, whereas it would normally be off if I turned the computer off normally.Gives me the option of starting in safe mode, crashes there too. Usually it'll crash before the option is even offered. I've also tried plugging it into other sockets around the house, but still crashes.
My computer constantly crashes or freezes, espeically during movies. I suspect its my video card but i'm not sure. Is there any way of verifying? I have also attached the mini dump file.
I have a HP Pavilion with intel i7 processor which was bought about Jan 2011 from costcoLately it has had occasional crashes, maybe once every couple days.I'm not sure of the exact specs of my computer. Where can I find this information? I ran the blue screen view and these were the results[CODE]
Within the past week I've been getting numerous BSOD crashes. I've had some in the past that were related to the video card. Replaced the video card with a NOS replacement. That seemed to cure that problem. Three months later here I go again.
Here's what I'm runnng:
HP M9250F Desktop Asus IPIBL LB Benicia MB Intel Core2 Quad Q6700 4 gig of ram Nvidia GeForce 8600GT Haupauge NTSC and ATSC TV tuner 2 500 GB hard drives 1 1TB hard drive Original OS Vista 64 Upgraded to Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit
cpu i7 2720QM gpu nvidia 555m RAM DDR3 Main HD Crucial m4 128GB fw 309 Windows 7 x64 Professional
My PC randomly crashs without an apparent reason, one of the most annoying one happens if i leave the PC working without any input with power plan Balance, the screen is black and i can only reboot (doesn't happen with High Performance). However sometimes i also get BSOD while working normally.I'm also noticing how the frequency of the CPU gets really low sometimes if i remove the charger.
I have been having some computer crashes lately. They haven't been constant lately but it crashed again today and that motivated me to post this. I know that these crashes have to do with my graphics card. It happened to my computer with my old graphics card(fried) and it is happening about once time a month now. Basically what happens when it crashes is there is a notification on the windows task bar to the right saying something along the lines of "AMD display drivers has crashed". Any video I try to play will be messed up. Pixels are jacked up and sometimes the video goes completely green. If I see that notification about the display driver crashing, I have two choices. Play a video until my computer crashes or I can do stuff not related to gaming/videos and restart later. My graphics card is a Diamond Radeon HD 6670.
I reinstalled Windows 7 64-bit on my computer (HP p6510f) about a month ago. All went well for about a month. But now I get these random crashes. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to them. Happens when I surf the net, listen to music or play a game. The computer usual runs well for several hours to a day, then WHAM-O! The computer freezes up and I have to re-boot.
I don't get the BSOD and I'm always able to re-boot quickly. What troubleshooting steps should I take? I hope there is a fix to this because I'm getting pretty frustrated over this computer I've only had for a couple of years.
Recently I've been experiencing some issues with random crashes only with steam games. I've run furtest and passed. Downloaded SpeedFan and everything is nice and cool. All my drivers are up to date and my OS has installed all updates. I've also run multiple antivirus and malware to make sure I'm not infected.
CPU: AMD Phenom II x4 925 2.8 GHz (OC to 3.03) RAM: G. Skill Ripjaws 8GB(2x4) 240 pin DDR3 1600 (12800) - (clocked at 1440) MB: Asus M4A89TD- Pro/USB GPU: ATI Radeon HD 5770 (OC) HDD: Western Digital Caviar Black 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 6.0 32MB cache PSU: PC Power and Cooling Silencer Mk II 950W
I have no discs to burn memtest to, so is there any alternative? Also, these crashes have been happening since before OC.I opened up Event Viewer and found an error code under -Applications, labled: Source- WMI: Event ID- 10 "Event filter with query "SELECT * FROM __InstanceModificationEvent WITHIN 60 WHERE TargetInstance ISA "Win32_Processor" AND TargetInstance.LoadPercentage > 99" could not be reactivated in namespace "//./root/CIMV2" because of error 0x80041003. Events cannot be delivered through this filter until the problem is corrected."I would figure that if my GPU could pass furtest on the fullest test without it shutting down then my PSU is handling the load. Also I don't believe that 950W is too little for what I'm running.
We recently purchased parts to build 2 completely new PC's for our company. Both PC's have the exact same specs, hardware and software... yet one of them keeps crashing every couple of days. The other one has not had a single problem yet.
I'm providing the 2 crash dumps from the offending PC. If anyone could help us out in assessing the problem, we'd greatly appreciate it as we have absolutely no clue what's gong on currently.
My computer keeps randomly restarting. It doesn't matter if I'm browsing the Internet or playing games it will just happen randomly. It crashes most frequently during the boot up after the initial crash. system repair will give me a few extra minutes but it eventually crashes again. When rebooting it will turn off and on and ONE of my case fans which is connected to my motherboard will flicker on and off. i have other fans connected to the board that do not do this. I've never posted here so I'm not sure what I should include in this post but here are my parts.

Things I've done: -booted in safe mode (still crashed and restarted) -system restore (still crashed but less frequent) -checked and secured power connections to the mother board -sysstem repair (same as restore) -Began a virus scan but computer crashed before it could finish -checked CPU heat (remains 35-45 degrees Celsius even while playing games)
I had a PC with a Windows 7 install for the last two years that had a motherboard go bad. I ended up buying a Tigerdirect combo (hardware specifics below) and just decided to reuse the case with my original install drive. After taking some time to retune itself to new drivers, the computer kept freezing at random times. In some other forums on this site, I thought it driver related (even though I had updated everything including new MB bios). To make things easier, I installed a new 80GB SSD drive and put in a fresh install of Windows 7. Have updated everything to the nines and avoided adding any additional software until I had data and stuff organized from my previous install. However, the randome gremlin seems to have come back at random times.
I've tried setting memory frequency from auto to the speed in the BIOS, but found this thread and have attached the BSOD zip file for some help. Any thoughts on what is the issue? It may be a hardware problem, but I have run memtest on the memory and just can't seem to find the culprit.

Is Windows 7 x86 (32-bit) or x64 ? x64 the original installed OS on the system? No an OEM or full retail version? Full Retail What is the age of system (hardware)? About 2 years, What is the age of OS installation? 1 year and a half?
I recently reinstalled Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit on my HP Pavilion dv6233se notebook pc as a response to frequent system crashing and being unable to restart. I've updated all the drivers as far as I can determine, but I still get occasional BSOD. The blue screen is too blurry for me to read so I have no information to go on as far as codes or causes.
The most recent BSOD occurred while running IOLO System Mechanics, when I started the defrag tool, but I have since run the tool without incident.
I built this computer about a year ago, and have had some problems recently.

I have had BSODs almost daily for the past week or so, but they're all different. Several hours ago, after leaving it unattended for a few hours, the computer just kind of turned off, but with the system fan and lights still on. My monitors has no signal, and my keyboard didn't do anything, but its light was still on. Maybe there's something wrong with my graphics card? I'm going to try to run a memtest tonight.
Since Ive started playing Football manager 2012 on PC, like frequently, the game crashes my whole PC at random times during the game.. Ive looked on many forums and stuff and tried many things but nothing actually worked and it keeps shutting down my whole pC....
Ive attached the latest dumps Ive collected in a zip..
Alright, basically whenever I play a game I have some type of problem. I usually play Starcraft 2 and it's fine, but occasionally I'll get a BSOD or my display driver will stop working. When I'm not attempting to stream my games to twitch.tv this is pretty rare, but it still happens occasionally. Whenever I run xsplit and dxtory combined with starcraft 2 and stream, I get crashes constantly. My GPU doesn't ever really go above 53c, so I don't think that's what's causing it, but I could be wrong. My display driver stopping happens with most games that are pretty intense on the computer, but, like I said, my temps don't usually get too high. I'd love to solve whatever is causing me these problems. My computer specs are as follows:Processor: AMD Phenom II x6 1055TRAM: Patriot Viper DDR2 2GB Ram (2 sticks, so 4 GB)GPU: XFX Radeon HD6850OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit (installed for a good while, over a year or so I think)
