The whole problem stems from the fact that my Office 2007 icons have magically disappeared, so I tried to run the Office diagnostic tool. But when I did, it mentioned an error about the event log service. I tried to go see if it was started or not, but when I did I realized that it wasn't even there. All of the registry values are present and correct so I don't know what the problem is.
View 3 RepliesI'm having some problems with event viewer. When I go to open it, it gives me the "Event Log service is unavailable. Verify that the service is running." error. I've tried going through the steps Microsoft gives for creating new log files if yours are corrupted. Problem is, the .evt file doesn't exist.
I've researched the problem a lot and I do have UxStyle Core installed which is patching the files necessary to install third party themes, and I have heard that this may cause some issues with the event log, but everyone I saw undo any patching and even rollback updates, go to previous restore points, etc.
My HP with Windows 7 suddenly gives me the following error message on startup: "Failed to connect to a Windows service: Could not connect to System Event Notification Service." Among other things, this prevents me from connecting to my wireless network, so I can't get on-line. Rebooting doesn't help. And the problem occurs regardless of whether I sign on as administrator or as general user.More: I can't access the Windows Help & Support pages. And I'm told to "see System Events log" for details, but when I try, it says "Event Log Service is unavailable."

However it is not. I have tried system restore but same issue. I don't know if it could be turned off in the registry or just what would cause this. All my drivers are up to date (double checked), I rolled back and uninstalled all updates, Did sfc /scannow three times and they passed without any integrity violations. I've tried netsh winsock reset as well. The aero is gone, greyed out plus I can't select any other theme and whenever I start up the computer it displays the message "Could not connect to a Windows service".This started happening about 2 months ago when my laptop ran out of battery in hibernate mode. It didn't resume so I had to press the power button again and then it took about 8 minutes to boot with nothing but a black screen and the mouse there. The audio service isn't running every time I boot up (I have to right click and run troubleshooter to start it). I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate on a Sony Vaio VGN-NW25GF. Intel Duo core T6600 and the ATI Radeon HD Graphics 4570 card.

After all that was fixed and replaced my computer seemed to have ran fine for a few days, and it still technically is except for this problem.The problem is when I log in into windows normally it takes a while for Windows to boot up. In services the service is called System event notification, it says that the service is running fine. Even when i try to restart it, it makes no difference at all.
This Error popped up on my Screen today My Nvidia control panel, among other programs do not seem to start with windows any more ( i noticed this right away because my screen configuration had changed)I have checked the service and all of its dependencies and all of them are working fine.

* Hard Drive Self Test ---- # 1 - 7 fail / #10008 Fail > I am guessing that this is the source of the problem, however my computer does still work once everything is finally booted. So I don't know what to do with that information or if that test even matters.
* I have tried looking at the event viewer but every time it says that the event log service is unavailable > I try turning on Windows Event Log but that does not change anything
* I tried "netsh winsock reset" in command prompt, based on a different thread that I found - it didn't work

When I look in services.msc, Windows Update is missing.Running Windows 7 x64. I don't think it is a malware infection.Running ESET Nod32 Antivirus 4, Comodo Firewall and Malwarebyte's Pro. The error message reads something like "This service can not be started because it is either disabled or it has no enabled devices associated with it." I looked around and found a list of services associated with Backup & Restore and their startup settings (manual/Automatic Etc.) I went through the list and everything is correct EXCEPT "Windows Backup" - "Manual" (manual is the setting not part of the name). There is no service with that name. All the other 5 are there and set correctly.

The Windows backup service is not even listed in my service list.
I've tried the one fix circulating around here involving deleting the wbengine registry key and restoring it, to no avail.
My backup drive ran out of space a few weeks ago and I'd been ignoring it until now, before that it had been chugging along happily, not even missing a beat when I re imaged my boot drive over to a newer, faster one.
Recently I worked with the tech support at McAfee when I couldn't install my updates or virus scan my Aspire one netbook.I was told that McAfee was fixed but will not run until I pay them $179.00 to fix my Windows 7 Service pack which is apparantly missing a file. I tried turning the laptop off to no avail. I discovered the only way to continue using my laptop was to press "CTL, ALT and DELETE" about five or six times.
Basically my laptop has been having very high temperatures for a long time (usually ~60C for CPU and often 100-110 for GPU...insanely high, in other words) For example, see how hot the machine gets just by resuming from a sleep (this is all within a minute or so):I have been seeing the following error in event viewer each time I start Windows (4 entries) for some time:So today I bit the bullet and had the back cover off the laptop and noticed what a bad state the thermal compound was in, for both the CPU and the chipset chip, so wiped it off using TIM Cleaner, and then applied new thermal compound and put the laptop back together. I was actually shocked because for the first time since I can remember, I could feel cold air blowing from the vents of my laptop! I logged into Windows and noticed that my temperatures had fallen and were staying at around the below:Not as low as I'd like but a massive improvement. Clean install from Microsoft image and valid key from Microsoft.
Problem:
Computer rarely restarts during the time I am using it. It restarts if I leave stuff downloading overnight or if I leave on during the day. I then have to re-install any software I installed the previous time because it says it was shutdown improperly ( CRASHED).
I then check the Event logger and see it has multiple crash reports.

I have a Dell XPS M1730 with Windows 7 Ultimate and it was doing an iTunes update and the lid got closed during the update process. Now when I start the computer up it says "the user profile service service failed the login, user profile cannot be loaded". The computer starts up in safe mode and won't let me do a system restore because it says it is shut off.When I look at User Profiles in Windows 7, it states that the users profile is as backup and the default profile is the local profile. How can I fix my computer to get my user profile back up and working?
