When i first saw this, i tried updating my drivers, and it did fix the problem for a while but then afterwords it occurs again. Apr 25, 2009In the beginning, I had no problems with Win 7 build 7000. I could play whatever video file I wanted and it would work perfectly. Since checking out the various builds after 7000, right up to the latest RC build 7100, I have nothing but problems when playing video files. No matter which player I use, be it WMP, KMPlayer, VLC or Media Player Classic, I get a BSOD after trying to open a video file, including DVD.
(Actually, that is not strictly true as I can open *.mpg files for some strange reason.) I have tried changing my video card for an older ASUS ATI card but got the same result - BSOD. So, my question to you folks is: Can anyone give me a clue as to what might be wrong?
Playing FLV Files Using VLC Media Player?
Jun 14, 2012I have Windows 7 Home basic service pack1, 64 bit OS. I'm not able to play FLV files using the VLC 2.0.1. I have uninstalled and reinstalled it many times but it didn't work. When I'm trying to play the files nothing is shown, not even a single error message. but no sound/display.

Jan 14, 2012Just trying out 7MC on an old build before I move to a new HTPC. However, I'm having a few issues.
1. When playing .avi files, the pictures is ever so slightly out of sync. It's barely noticeable but can be quite annoying. I some suggestions about changing settings in the sharks codec options, however this made the .avi unplayable. Anyone got any ideas on this? (I am playing from network storage btw)
2. When playing .mkv files, I have to crank the sound right up on my TV. If I play .avi files, it's completely fine, but .mkv files need the TV putting to the maximum volume. Anyone know why this would be? I have the shark codec packs installed.
3. My PS3 up scales content for my TV screen, however, when playing this same content on 7MC, the quality doesn't look anywhere near as good as the PS3. Anyone know why this is? Are there settings I should be doing to support up scaling (if possible)? I am using Media browser to browse to these files. The colours also don't look that great, is it possible it could be the HDMI cable (even though I thought HDMI quality didn't really matter too much). Could it also be an overscan issue?
4. Media Browser metadata has managed to recover metadata for all but two of my movies. I think the problem is that the proper movie titles have a : in them, and obviously you can't put these in a folder name. Is there anyway around this?
5. Media Browser has only been able to recover metadata for one of my TV shows. All of my other TV shows are structured the same way, but no metadata is recovered.
6. Is there anyway I can apply a view option to all of the screens in Media Broswer. For instance, when trying to decide the season of the program, can I set them all to look like the 'detail' option in the skin, or do I have to do each one manually?
I have my library sorted like Movies > Film (year) > file.avi and TV Shows > Show Name > Season # > S01E03..System spec is Intel Core 2 Duo E6750, 4GB DDR2 Crucial Ballistix 1066MHZ RAM, ATI Radeon HD 5450 graphics card (using HDMI).
Audio Crackling When Playing Video Files Via WMC And WMP
Feb 23, 2012When using the WMC I have noticed crackling sounds when playing m2ts video files containing AVC and AC-3. I have noticed crackling sounds primarily on start up of the video file and sporadically during playback. At first I thought it might be a hw issue but now I'm not so sure. BTW the video playback appears to be okay...just a problem with the audio.
On the windows sw side I am fully up to date i.e. with Windows 7 HP x64.
On the hardware side I have updated by video and audio drivers to the latest...in fact all the drivers are upto date. The Machine is an Acer Aspire X1470 desktop model with 4 GB of ram. AMD Radeon HD 6410D Graphics (display adapter). AMD A4-3400 APU.
I have tried connecting the audio thru the on-board sound system. I've also tried using an external USB based sound I/F. Which one I use makes no difference...The crackling still comes thru.
Part of the reason I'm led to believe this is not strickly a hw issue is because I've tried playing these same files with XBMC and they play cleanly. So it would seem there is some kind of interaction issue hw and sw when using WMC on this computer. BTW I've tried using WMP (my preferred choice) but the audio and video degradation is markedly worse than WMC. I've included the Media info data for one of the files I've played below:

Extension Appearing Twice For AVI Files - Not Playing In VLC Media Player
Nov 22, 2012One of my .avi files got the extension twice, not able to play in vlc media player, but it plays smooth in Windows media player. I don't now how it happened, but tried to rename it, still appears the same. When I looked in to the file properties it says the file having extension,(.avi) (.avi).!!! Thought of converting the whole file to some other format, sadly video converting program not able to open as it says unknown format!!!

I get BSOD sometimes when playing Battlefield 3, sometimes I don't get it. I also get BSOD when transferring large files from external hard drives or from my internal network.
Audio & Video Hiccup When Playing High Bitrate Files
Sep 21, 2012Recently the hiccups that happen when playing hich bitrate audio (happens in 320 kbps and not in 192) and videos (HD) started to really annoy me so I came here.I have windows 7, intel i7 870 processor, roland UA-4FX USB sound card, radeon hd5800 graphics card, and 4gb ram, I think all of them have up to date drivers.The clicking intensifies when doing rather CPU-heavy things like opening microsoft word but it is always there in high bitrate files, but the CPU load never goes above 20% in task manager.The hiccups are such that audio playback stops for a very short time periodically and making a click sound as if you removed the cable of the speaker.

Dec 25, 2009For some reason, I am no longer able to play MKV files through WMC on my 360.
The error message it's giving me is:
Cannot play Video,
The file type is not recognized and cannot be played. Either the correct codec (a file that compresses/decompresses audio or video) is not installed or the file is corrupt.
It used to play fine when I had installed K-lite codec pack as well as Divx direct show filters.
However, I had bad ram and had to re-install Windows 7 and since then, playing MKV movies on my 360 through WMC does not work!
Any suggestions?
I've un-installed all the codec packs like Divx and k-lite, still not working.

Oct 24, 2011Whenever I play a game for longer than 10 minutes, this happens. Affected games: trackamania nations, trackmania united, CoD4, MW2, BO, Oblivion, .. Most games. Stepmania doesn't seem to have the problem, so I think it may be OpenGL/DirectX related.This sound is also paired with severe FPS problems. After a few more minutes of play, I the BSOD; [URL]One odd thing is that when I launch a game (for example CoD4, which boots quickly, because other games need to boot steam first :s) right after startup, and leave it running for say 10 minutes, the problem will not exist for the entire session, until I reboot.Natively, I had Vista, after a month orso the problem started occuring. Then I clean installed Windows 7 Home Premium, the problem didn't exist at first. After a month, same problem. Then I upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate, which gave the same story.I'm confident that the problem is with an auto-update of something, I deliberately didn't instal any drivers manually.

- I got my system just over 2 years ago.
- My current OS is about half a year old I estimate. The problem recurred over all OS's.

Dec 10, 2011My gaming laptop has always had BSOD problems ever since purchase. It occurs sporadically, sometimes once a month to once every day for a week. It occurs mostly while playing video games, but has sometimes happened randomly while internet browsing. I created a thread on these forums 2 weeks ago for a BSOD problem. Jan 24, 2012everytime I play Battlefield 3 I get in max. 30 minutes a BSOD. And it ONLY happens with this game, everything else works perfectly fine without crashes or whatsoever.This has been going on since half December, which is about a week after I updated my drivers. It first happened once or twice, where I though that it was just coincidence, but now it happens every time I try to play Battlefield 3.Since it happened a bit after updating the drivers, I thought it was that. Today most of the drivers needed to be updated again, including the infamous Realtek sound drivers that are supposed to give problems with Battlefield 3, so I updated them hoping it would solve the problem. No dice, I still get a BSOD when playing Battlefield 3.Dump files are in the attachment. I didn't include the perfmon HTML file since it refuses to generate a report, even when the Performance Logs & Alert service is set on manual.

Jan 25, 2012Recently started playing Mass Effect 2 it was working fine for the first 30 mins. But when he wakes up and picks up his weapon the screen turns off and its becomes unresponsive and the speakers produce a high pitched sound and sometimes the GPU fan sound like it going at 100%. This also happens when I play GTA 4 and sometimes it happens when playing Skyrim.

Feb 25, 2012i was playing minecraft as usual and then the screen frezes for 10 seconds then goes n normaly then the screen becomes black then the BSOD i havent read much because it restarted but i was having this eror from christmas i replaced my hard driver and reinstal my windows a few times.Then somebody told me it was an overloading problem then i stoped playing like 24/7 hrs on minecraft and it was good no more BSODs and i started playing 24/7 again for about 2 weeks but now i got it again just a few minutes ago i downloaded and instaled and used BSOD veiwer and the here is it:

Mar 7, 2012I recently upgraded my motherboard,cpu and ram and did a format and a fresh install of Win 7 ultimate 64, well as the title suggests i can no longer play anything because it blue screens at any given chance. mainly error code 3b but i have had the odd 4e ,edit: there is also a 050 error now aswell.

Here is some information about my computer:
AMD X2 4600+, nVidia GF 8800GT 512mb, RAM 2GB.
I already changed drivers to newest and downgraded to some older, but nothing changed, the same problem again. I used option that I founded on the net where I needed to use CMD and expand that .sys file to create new, but that not worked too.
BSOD Error When Playing Multiple Games
Apr 28, 2012my computer is recently crashing, I recently had some work done to it hardware wise and they had to do a fresh Windows 7 install because of all the hardware changes that Vista couldn't handle. They said if you do a lot of hardware changes, especially the motherboard you'd have to do a fresh install of Vista, and I said just do Windows 7. So a month it was working wonderfully on extensive games and recently maybe within this week my computer would randomly when loading games crash to the motherboard splash screen. Then when my computer starts up I see an AMD popup, and a Windows has recovered from an unexpected crash.
