View 3 RepliesI work as a software developer and have had a lot of experience with wireless networking. I have an old wireless router (unsecured at the moment) that I have connected to a modem, provided by Virgin media. When I use a cable to directly connect to the router, all seems fine, but when I attempt to connect wirelessly I am almost immediately presented with "Windows was unable to connect to [router name]". Other people in my house (on both XP and Vista) can connect to the router without any problems, implying that it is a setting within Windows 7. HOWEVER, I am able to connect to another (unsecured) wireless router. I guess this can only mean that there is a setting on the router that is preventing me from connecting...

View 3 Replies View RelatedWent to the city library today - laptop wouldn't connect to any unsecured network. The library does not offer wifi, but you can detect 4-5 several unsecured networks nearby. I wasn't able to connect to any of them. One of them said "Public" - not sure who it belonged to - but the icon beside it was not the typical signal bars. Couldn't tell what it was - looked like maybe a LAN connection, three entities connected to each other. Haven't seen that in the network list before. I could connect to that one, but after a minute or so the connection was dropped.
I've never had a problem connecting to unsecured networks. In fact, I packed up from the dud library and went up the road to a neighboring town library and connected to their unsecured network just fine.
Any ideas why this happens?

View 9 Replies View RelatedWith my netbook Acer Aspire One 521 I have previously connected to both home and work wireless networks with no problems, however the work network no longer appears in the 'available connections' list. I get a variety of available connections from the local area (more than any other computer) but not the specific router I am looking for & sat next to!I can still connect at home no problems with the netbook (i.e the wireless adaptor is functional) and with my laptop I have no problems at work, nor do any of my colleagues - so the router is functioning correctly.I have tried:- restarting both netbook & router- checked the router is set to mixed (b&g signal type)- checked the wireless connections list for duplicate entries and tried deleting the saved previous entry for the work network- using a system restore point from when I could connect to the networkNo new software, antivirus/firewall etc.. have been installed since it has been working as I got all that up and running at home prior to taking it in to work.Laptop has Windows 7 Home Premium & netbook Windows 7 starter.
View 1 Replies View RelatedOn 2 different laptops, one running professional, the other running Home Media, the computer tries to connect to my home network twice. The most frequent example is when I try to connect wirelessly, in network connections I will see my network named two time. "Connected to Network, Network1" When this happens I can not connect to the internet. I AM connected to the network and can see other PC's in the network. If I disable the device and re-enable it, this usually solves the issue.

This seems to be a windows issue but not sure. When I look at the wireless profile in windows it says the security is WEP but the router is set up as WPA-2. I have tried changing the setting in Windows to WPA-2 but that then generates another error in the network discovery window saying the settings are not correct or something to that effect.
1) I have reinstalled the driver didn't work.
2) I have removed the security altogether didn't work.
3) reset the router didn't work (Although as stated earlier the other 2 computers connect with no problems)
4) Deleted wireless profile and started again didn't work.
The following worked untill I restarted the computer but would not after that even if I applied the same steps.
1) Assigned a static IP - This worked but once I restarted the computer it would no longer connect. Tired different IP address from 192.168.1-149. No joy
2)Copied the network profile from both the other machines same result as #1.
Prior to Saturday morning, my computer was able to detect the router and connect to the internet. However, as of yesterday, my computer is no longer able to see any wireless networks. My dad did change the frequency of the router yesterday, but all the other PC's in the house are able to connect again - except for mine. I've tried rebooting the livebox, rebooting my PC, pressing the wi-fi button, changing my adapter's usb slot and also reinstalling my adapter's drivers. None of these have made a difference.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have two PCs sitting side by side. They are both served by the same Linksys wireless router. One has a Linksys internal wireless adapter that does not recognize the wireless signal that the PC next to it is now receiving. Both PCs got the signal last week and worked fine before I installed windows 7 to the one that now cannot recognize my wireless network signal. That PC shows two old wireless network names that no longer exist, but it does not show the new wireless network.I have tried to go through the Control Panel to > Network and Internet to create the new Network name or get the adapter to sense the new network. But, no luck. What am I doing wrong? My Windows 7 install seems to have creamed my wireless network setup on the PC that will not now pick up the wireless signal.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have two wireless networks using two different routers. I can connect easily to both networks from five of my other computers, some that use XP, one with Vista and one with Windows 7. I have another AIO computer using Windows 7 that will only connect to one of the networks although both the networks appear on the list of available networks and the signal strength indicates excellent on the network that won't connect. I disconnect the network that I can access, try to connect to the other but I get the advice that the computer cannot connect. I have typed in the correct codes, do everything as on other computers but it just won't connect on this one. After a few seconds the computer automatically connects to the previous network.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a new Netgear WNDA4100 (wireless USB) and the install program can not find the WNDA4100, However, Windows 7 finds it and installs it. I can not get the Netgear Install process to complete. Cancelling that results in a disabled network device that will not enable. AKAMAI was installed on my machine and after removing that magically the item "manage wireless networks" re appeared on the Network and Sharing Center Page - AKAMAI installed precluded that from being there! However, clicking it does nothing - brings up an empty panel and when one hits "add", you get a network error. I did edit the registry manually and removed anything and everything to do with AKAMAI and it was all over the place. Doing that takes a little time. There must be some AKAMAI driver or something in the way of this all working.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm trying (desperately) to set up my network on Windows 7, but have hit a bump in that it just cannot find my network. I checked Device Manager to see if the card was found - it was with a troubleshoot exclamation point on it.I removed the card, used the installation disc and am not able to get very far. After the install (after which nothing happens), I click on the Belkin Wireless Networking Utility icon on the desktop and it says "missing shortcut: searching for Belkinwcui.exe", after which I get a window saying "The item Belkinwcui.exe that this shortcut refers to has been changed of moved, so this shortcut will no longer work properly". That exe file isn't anywhere in my computer, searching through Explorer. In fact, in the Belkin install folder (Program Files (x86) -> Belkin ->FSD8001v1...) there just looks like maybe a driver (AegisE5.dll) and an application (AegisI5) that doesn't run. I guess is to take my PC upstairs and line it into my modem/base station directly, but I'd rather not move it.
View 9 Replies View RelatedRunning Windows 7 Home Premium, I've experienced this issue about five times in the span of two weeks.
When my wireless connection isn't found, sometimes Windows is unresponsive when clicking on the wireless icon near my system clock. It shows either the empty bars with a yellow indicator or the empty bars with a red x. When I try to click and bring up the list of available networks, nothing happens. Even right-clicking doesn't do anything.
Explorer has given an error and needed to shut down three of the five times this error has happened.
Any idea what could be causing this to happen?
