Disable Touchpad On Samsung R710 Windows 7
Oct 25, 2011
One minor annoyance I have been unable to overcome whilst reinstalling is that I want to turn the touchpad off as it has become really sensetive and really annoying! Trips to all sorts of sites (inc. Samsung) have not helped.I have attached two images from the 'control panel/hardware and sound/mouse' window as I do not seem to have a tab called Device Settings that another W7 Samsung laptop I have access to has, in case it is part of the problem.

Got a problem with a fresh install on my laptop like the title says. Normally I can always figure pc related problems myself but this is my second night trying to fix it and I"m about to give up. So my last resort is to create a topic here, res something I haven't tried yet (or make a conclusion my laptop is ****ed). So here's the situation. Bought this samsung R710 laptop about 2 years ago with vista premium on it. With windows 7 release got a digital legit version through my student program on MSDNAA. Downloaded the image, burned, install went all smooth. So basically I've been cruising on windows 7 professional 32 bit since the release without ANY problem.
Thing is now, computer was getting slow and started to see some malware and spyware so like most people do then, time for fresh windows install! So yesterday I started the process of getting the fresh install. Backing up all my files on my external hdd en found my windows 7 dvd again. So my computer is nearly completely empty, something like 250gb free of the 300gb.Got the disc in, rebooted my pc in the hope that the installation starts. And here comes the problem, it's getting the disc and i'm getting the screen with windows is loading the files, then the windows is starting logo. Then I see some low resolution big ass mouse appearing on the screen and I"m like, well this is going fine, this is the installation starting like I remember. Well after a few seconds, the laptop just shuts down and just reboots. And this happens really EVERY frikkin time. So basically I'm not getting into the installation of windows 7.
So already tried alot of things, like doing the upgrade instead of the fresh install ( yes I know, windows 7 upgrade to windows 7 but I was just trying everything out). Well this gives the error that I dont have enough harddisk space which is really strange aswell. I tried doing a fresh install through while my pc is turned on in the setup of the disc. This actually went fine, the installation started getting the "windows is copying files" and all untill the point the computer has to restart to finish the installation. Here is where it goes wrong, from the setup on my desktop windows starts installing but when it reboots it just does the same thing again. It wants to enter the installation but it goes into a endless reboot loop.Well luckily i'm still able to get back into my pc since it's now on some strange dual boot where it says 1 option with "windows setup" and the other with "windows 7"where the latter one gets me back into my pc normally.I'm really out of ideas, tried nearly everything, from installing random drivers like for my videocard to updating my bios. At this point I don't even mind going back to vista but samsung never gave me a vista disc so I'm basically stuck on this shitty windows 7 installation which I want to get rid of.

I have been trawling this site since Oct 22 for help with my problem, some pointers have worked to some extent but now I have reached a dead end so here's my post:
I have custom installed Windows 7 64 over an OEM Vista Home Premium on my Samsung R710 - a very pretty little laptop. Everything works great except the driver for my video card, an Nvidia 9600M GT. According to Dev Manager my GPU is currently running under a VGA compatible video controller which can only give me basic video display, no Aero or proper gaming display.
After struggling to find an Nvidia driver that would recognize my card similar to other posters in this forum, I came across the 186.81 driver
(186.81_notebook_win7_winvista_64bit_international_whql) on the Nvidia site. Using Internet Explorer, this driver is automatically detected for my system and after downloading detects my GPU and installs right over the VGA driver. Great.
Not so great: I cannot boot into Windows 7. I get the 'Windows is Starting' screen with the whirling lights and the beatific windows logo shining away but just before the mouse pointer should appear the display completely switches off (not black screen) and reboots ad infinitum. Only a safe mode disinstall of 186.81 and 2 reboots will allow to get back into Windows 7 with the VGA driver back in control.
The funny thing is, after looking at other peoples problems on this site I DID get 186.81 to work for a few hours. Aero was working and I was playing the new Dyson game on Steam, but a sudden reboot dropped me into the cycle described above.
Because I had also done some messing around with the OEM drivers from Samsung I thought I had screwed something up; so, I executed a recovery back to Vista and a completely new custom install of Windows 7 64. I reinstalled 186.81 but immediately met the same reboot problem.
Now then. I have tried monkeying around with the VGA driver file: vgapnp.sys in system32 (no change to reboot situation), looking at ntbtlog.txt (completely fruitless), updating the BIOS from Samsung (this driver fails to load in Windows 7), every driver someone has recommended (the drivers usually install but result in same reboot situation) and the MS Update Catalog drivers (same reboot deal).
Essentially, I can get a compatible Nvidia driver to install but my system will not accept it and reboots until remove the offending driver in safe mode.

Just got a new HP Pavilion Notebook. I didn't like using the touchpad, so I plugged in a mouse. Then, I went to the Control Panel and TRIED to disable the touchpad. The mouse works great, but the touchpad keeps enabling itself again. It really gets ugly when I'm using the mouse and stop to type something in and the weight of my hands causes the screen zoom to adjust and jump.Is there any way to completely disable the touchpad until I really want to use it?

I have an ASUS laptop model: N43S I used fn-f9 keys to disable my touchpad, and after I pressed these two keys, a picture of a locked touchpad appeared on the screen but the touchpad was still working. So I went to control panel -->device manager-->mice and other pointing devices-->driver but the disable button was disable too.
I should disable my touchpad because I have to type my thesis and the touchpad is a big problem for me.

My wife's Samsung notepad keyboard and touchpad have stopped working. The odd thing is that the keyboard does work at startup - I can press F4, arrows, Enter, etc to start up in safe mode, but still the keyboard and touchpad do not work as soon as we get to the login screen. I have tried system restore, unplugging the cord and battery. At the moment I can get it to work using a USB mouse and the on-screen keyboard

i just had my system reinstaled with win 7 64bit professional, and can't find a way to disable the touchpad. i prefer to use a dedicated, and very handy usb mouse. i used to have windows home edition, on this hardware, and everything worked. just pressed Fn + F9, et voila: touchpad disabled, and just use the mouse..i noticed on device manager an unknown usb device, that keeps popping up. unpluged all devices (including the mouse), rebooted, and there it is again. weird, because all usb devices (pendrives, mouse, usb harddrives, usb wi-fi modem), seem to work ok. because of that, already updated the touchpad and usb drivers, to no avail.

I have installed the Elan touchpad driver I can't get it to scroll correctly. In addition an Elan touchpad .exe run box comes up at every boot which does nothing when Run. I finally browsed to it in the Programs folder and deleted that .exe file so it wouldn't pop up at every start. It shows installed in the Device Manager, however doesn't have the functions I had in the Samsung factory install. This and the sound driver don't seem to work right when installed, as though there is more software needed that isn't on the Downloads page at Support for NP-RF511.

My dad is working on a Dell Studio 1735 laptop and can't get the scroll bar to work. He's tried going into mouse settings but a scroll bar option wasn't there. He also tried to update drivers and check the touch pad settings to no avail. Anyone know the solution? In dell support there is no win 7 64-bit option.

I don't know for sure the the Win7 update killed the track-pad, but about a week or so ago after I let it run I've lost the track-pad function completely and the keyboard is erratic. If I accidentally hit the Caps Lock key the keyboard stops responding. I discovered if I open the keyboard control panel and just change a parameter, like how fast the cursor blinks and APPLY then I get the keyboard back without rebooting. I downloaded the track-pad driver, says it's the same as installed but the system no longer recognizes it's there in the control panel. This is an HP G60 series laptop running Win 7 Home.
I'm downloading TSG to add that info, but searching I see many people have had similar problems like this with no solution on various brands of laptops and Windows.
