I Reinstalled Windows 7 on my Dell laptop, using a normal (microsoft) dvd.I installed in 64 bit, while the Dell dvd was only for 32 bit.After 30 days, i got a message that my product was not activated and not genuine. After some calls to microsoft and Dell, they said that i have to reinstall Windows 7 using the Dell dvd.
View 9 RepliesFrom my workplace I have been literally given stacks of Dell OEM (re installation DVDs) Windows 7 Professional disks. I have installed a couple of them on test machines and, naturally, do not pass the WGA. So I'm planning to buy a few 'retail product keys' from eBay to use on my home machines.
I was wondering if the retail product keys (Win 7 Pro) will work with the Dell OEM disks. I have done the same thing with a Dell OEM Windows Vista Business re-installation disk and a retail product key bought from online used with a non-Dell computer with no issues (except the Dell logo is embedded in the Control Panel).
Has anyone tried this before? Because I don't know if Dell has modified the disks to accept only Dell systems and OEM product keys?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been trying, for the last 2 days, to install Win 7 (64 bit) to my Dell XPS 720. I performed the pre-install check and it reported no problems. As I was going from Vista 32 bit to Windows 7 64 bit I knew I would have to perform a clean install.
I have installed about 6 times over the last couple of days and the system seems fine for maybe 20 minutes at which point one of two things happens. either
1. it reboots after a brief blue screen message regarding BAD_POOL_HEADER (too quick to read)
2. it hangs and performs a dump with a BSOD regarding NVSTOR.SYS
I'm assuming that the problem is with the NVSTOR.SYS driver(s) for the motherboard NVIDIA RAID arrays. I have 4 disks in 2 RAID 0 arrays of a 1TB each.
Dell does not list the PC as Win 7 compatible and there are no Windows 7 64 bit RAID drivers listed although it does list Vista 64 bit drivers as a download. I have tried these but Windows 7 doesn't seem to want to update the driver saying I already have the latest drivers installed (from the Windows 7 DVD).
Anyone else had this problem and been able to cure it. I'm writing this from the PC with the 32 bit version installed and working fine. I need 64 bit to address the 8gb of memory for some very intensive video and photoshop work I do.

I can read MS minimum suggested hardware all day long, but nothing would beat hearing what someone running the configuration would have to say.
The machine is presently running WXP Pro just fine, and because it ain't broke, I am dumb enough to try to fix it.
Looking for a way to save some money, I found a person who is offering these kits, which he claims will work on any PC, is that true? Would this kit differ in what it has versus a copy directly from MS, other than the fact that it is x64 only? Would the key from this kit work to install from my MS DVDs?
