Dell E6410 Locks Up When Waking Up

Oct 9, 2012

[code] Using Windows 7 Professional, 32-bit, after the system has gone to sleep using the Function-F1 key sequence, it occasionally has trouble waking up. It will start to wake up, spin the hard drive, and the screen may come up, but then it locks up. Pressing the caps-lock key does not light up the caps lock, so it looks like the keyboard is locked up. Also, when that happens, the mouse is locked up and the pointer cannot move.

Dell I620 Desktop Freezes (locks) Up From Time To Time?

Jan 14, 2012

So I bought a new desktop computer about 2 weeks ago and ever since I got it, it's been freezing (locking) up on me at random times. I currently use Windows 7 64-bit. I put in a new graphics card and new memory sticks just the other day and I got the same freezing problem. It's very random. I can be surfing the web and the next thing you know, the whole thing freezes up. I can't move the mouse. Can't do CTRL ALT DEL. Can't do anything. Seems as if the whole computer locks up. The only way to restart the computer is by manually holding in the power button for a few seconds. So since I replaced graphics card and installed new memory, I was thinking it may be something else causing this.

Windows 7 Locks Up After Login?

Mar 27, 2011

I have had this computer up and running with the same LEGIT copy of windows 7 64 bit ultimate since Christmas time this year. All of a sudden the other day it just started locking up all the time. It runs Ubuntu well that is installed on another hard drive. It also boots into safe mode fine. I ran antivirus and malware scans that turned up nothing. I then checked the hard drive for disk errors and it came back fine after multiple checks. I had went into msconfig and made it restart with a clean boot still the same thing. At this point I gave up and had backed up everything and reformatted the drive and reinstalled the same copy of Windows 7 and now have the same thing. I have done multiple hard drive checks, memory tests, I have taken out one of my graphics cards and made it not sli.

PC Frequently Locks Up Nothing Responds

Feb 13, 2012

I built a new PC this past summer (specs are in my info). During the initial setup and installation of windows it locked up on me, but after a couple of tries, Windows 7 Ultimate x64 was properly installed. Since that point my computer locks up relatively frequently. When it locks up nothing responds...mouse and keyboard are useless, the last 16th of a second of sound is repeated, and the network itself actually locks up (no other computers on the network can access each other or the internet). The computer locks under the least demanding situations. I can play Skyrim for hours with the graphic settings set to max and it doesn't freeze. Meanwhile I play Dungeons of Dredmor or some fairly basic flash games, and within a half hour my computer will lock up.

I have run Memtest for 48 hours resulting in 0 errors. I have RMAed the processor & the motherboard. I have taken out one of the video cards and switched them. I have updated the bios. All of which have had no effect.Initially the CPU was running quite hot with the stock heatsink, but upon replacing it the CPU peaks at 50c.

Bitlocked External HDD Re-locks Itself

Oct 14, 2012

I have a 2tb external Hitchi drive that is bitlocked. The drive will randomly re-lock itself and i cannot figure out why. I thought it may be a problem with the drive going into sleep mode so i got software that would prevent sleep mode but the drive still re-locks itself. The drive seems to most frequently re-lock and ask me for the password again after about 12hrs, but it has re-locked just seconds after unlocking it before. I have checked the drive with HDDScan and all the smart values look fine except for the CRC count because the drive has locked on me while transferring files, so i would obviously get a CRC error; the count is 4.

Does anyone know anything about this? How can i stop this drive from locking on me?

Windows 7 Upgrade Locks Up?

Jun 6, 2010

I have a dell XPS l{ess then 1 year old} quad core Intel processor plenty of memory and all. I am trying to upgrade to win 7. The compability manager says I am fine for the upgrade. During the installation the computer seems to be locked up about 3 quarters of the way through. The progress bar is simply stopped. I started the install about 11:00pm and it's now 5:25am. Should it take this long? This is the 2nd time I have tried this and the same thing has happened both times. The only way to abort it to restart the machine and then of course I will have lost all the vista files and updates.

PC Freezes / Locks Up Every 1.5 To 2 Hours

Apr 28, 2012

All of a sudden the other night my computer started to freeze/lock up every 1.5 to 2 hours, no matter what I'm doing on it. If I reboot, then just leave it, when I come back a few hours later it's totally locked up and I have to hold the power button down to reboot. If I use it for two hours, say playing a game, eventually the game will freeze up and the same thing happens, I have to power cycle it.

I noticed a couple times that it seems to be explorer.exe that's in a hung state. If I hover my mouse over the taskbar it's just the blue circle spinning. Sometimes I'm able to open task manager (CTRL-ALT-ESC) but that quickly results in it just displaying a blank white window.

- I haven't made any recent changes to my system, hardware or software.

- I've ran a memtest86+ for over 4 hours and no errors.

- I've tried uninstalling a whole crapload of software, including my video card drivers, to no avail.

- I've updated my SSD's firmware to the latest version.

Checking Windows event logs yields only this error but there are lots of them going back to well before this whole freezing issue started: - The driver detected a controller error on DeviceHarddisk5DR7.

There is also this error only once in the last 3 days for which this problem has been occurring:

- The program Explorer.EXE version 6.1.7600.16768 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed.

Computer Locks-up While Downloading?

Sep 1, 2012

My computer consistently crashes while downloading a Torrent (Don't patronize me about the merits of downloading, I'm more worried about it being a hardware fault.)

My specs are:
Windows 7 Home Premium x64
Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E6750 @2.66Ghz
Asus P5E-VM HDMI mobo
6 gb Ram (2gb Patriot DDR2-6400, 4gb Ballistix DDR2-6400)
GeForce 9500 GT (1gb DDR2)
80gb Maxtor HDD (I just ordered a 1tb Seagate Constellation to replace this)

I bought this computer from a friend a week ago, it had no HDD, so I used dban to wipe the one from my old broken system. Also, this system has been in his garage for maybe two years, and I live in Washington so we've had the full spectrum of temperature.I am not getting BSOD, the system simply locks up and has stayed there for 20 minutes until a flipped the back switch on the console. If a sound was playing through the speakers when it happens, the sound stalls on the current note. I only have about 11gb of space of this HDD and it seems that it only happens when I cross the 10gb of free space line.

WMC Not Waking PC For Recordings

Recording works fine if the PC is active ( not asleep ) but if I set up something to be recorded ( OTA channels only ) when I'm not around, using the WMC guide, it will not wake up the PC from sleep mode and record the program.

Everything I am able to find says that WMC WILL wake up the PC so I suspect it is some obscure setting buried 138 levels deep on some obscure panel path but I sure can't find it !!

Computer Locks Up Under Heavy Load?

Jun 3, 2012

windows 7
intel core i7 860
asus p7p55d-e
2x 1 tb hd
8gb of ram
radeon 7950 vga card

so it started about a month ago, i would be playing eve online or minecraft.. and all of a sudden.. i would get a blue screen of death OR a computer lock up.. bac then i had 2x radeon 5770 cards... i replaced that with a radeon 7950 (amazing card btw) computer still keeps locking up, so i run memtest to see if its the ram, it passed, . so i turn off the pc. the next day... i get a startup failure in win7, i tried to repair it many times but it wouldnt.. so i took out my SSD hard drive and bought a traditional spin hard drive.. so far..only 1 blue screen .. something to do with ATi.. so i stopped running catalyst control center (i like to keep an eye out for my vid card temp) as well as speedfan (just in case) doesnt run anymore... so now my computer doesnt randomly freeze... ever.. HOWEVER.. when my computer is under heavy load (i run 8 clients of a game called EVE Online).. it will freeze.. no mouse movement.. nothing...total freeze.. this also happens when i load up the universe map in eve online (i guess that only goes to people who play eve)otherwise.. computer now runs stable if i avoid those 2 things and 1 more thing to add.. i obviously had to reinstall windows 7 on my new hd so it is a fresh install?

[CRASH] Windows Locks Up After PSU Failure

Feb 26, 2011

I recently had a PSU failure and replaced with a new unit. System now powers up.

However Windows is now randomly locking up. No BSOD, no warning, it just locks and stops responding. No screen corruption either. The only solution is to power off. It never once did this prior to the PSU failure.

The lockups happen randomly, maybe after 20 mins, maybe an hour and have occurred when:

Internet browsing
Running a large Backup
Installing the new SP1

There is nothing in the event logs that suggests anything happening prior to the lock up. There are no heat issues.

To try to isolate the problem, I have: Run Memtest86 for hours with no problems and also the Windows memory test, all fine.

Run Prime95 for a while again with no problems. I am gonna do some more tests later in Prime to check cache specifically. Reinstalled Windows on different a Hard Disk and still get exactly the same problem.

I am now coming to the conclusion that the PSU failure may have caused some sort of damage either to the motherboard or processor. I am going to return the new PSU to the supplier and get a replacement sent out just in case the new PSU is at fault.

Computer Locks Up During Games - Not Temps?

Mar 17, 2012

I have an older Gateway 7811fx with an Nvidia 9800M GTS. Usually about 5-20 minutes into a game, it will hard lock, the screen turns black, and it has to be shut down manually. It is NOT temperatures as far as I can see. I'm running monitoring software, and the GPU is only getting up to 70 or so, the processor is also running cool. That being said, it used to overheat all the time before I got wise and fixed it, and I'm afraid the video card is just damaged after being run hard for 5 years. I just reinstalled Windows 7 and freshly updated my video drivers and the problem persists.

Is there anything else I can check to try to figure out what's going on? Everything seems to be perfectly fine until it hard locks; nothing is overheating.

The nature of each crash tends to vary. Sometimes the whole system locks up, and I have to forcibly shut it down with the power button. Other times, the window that triggered the problem is the only thing that freezes. Furthermore, sometimes the computer will unfreeze after several minutes, while in other cases my only option is to restart.

Sound Locks Up Requires Reboot

Jun 15, 2009

Very often the sound on my system seems to get "locked up" after listening to music (MediaMonkey) or watching a movie (VLC or WMP) and there after when I attempt to play a video or listen to music, the progress bar won't move and videos won't play.

It's as though the resources lock on one program and aren't released. I suspect it might be due to my using an M-audio Audiophile 2496.

The only way to release it is to reboot. When I do so whatever has it locked releases in time to play the closing chime. After reboot the sound works normally - for a while.

Oh yeah, closing the program (MediaMonkey or whatever) doesn't have any effect.

BSOD Waking From Hibernate?

Oct 8, 2012

Just built the girlfriend a computer:

Asrock Z77 Extreme4
Ivybridge i5 3570k
2x4GB Crucial DDR3 1600 DIMMs
OCZTech 600W PSU
Generic CDRom, Seagate HDDs mirrored, WD Primary HDD.
No GPU connected as she won't need one.

At first I tried a mild overclock at 4.4ghz and stability tested with P95 for a few hours with no errors at all. Everything worked fine!Come time for her to actually use it, of course, BSOD's ensued, followed by boot looping.Boot loop would not stop until one of the DIMMs was removed.Naturally I thought the RAM was the culprit and tested the sticks using Memtest86, 4 passes each with no errors.Next tried single sticks of RAM in each slot, booted up fine. Tried with two sticks (1&3, 2&4), and it seemed to work fine if booting from a clean shutdown (as opposed to BSOD).Reverted to default BIOS settings and it seemed to help a little, as in it would actually wake from Hibernate a few times, but then out of nowhere would BSOD again.I read somewhere that a bent cpu pin might do this, but since a single stick worked on each of the 4 slots, I think this can be ruled out.BIOS are upto date with latest 2.20 version as well.Right now the computer is working fine with only one stick of RAM, the last BSOD happened with two sticks in, opening up Photoshop and InDesign at the same time with stock BIOS settings.

Windows Freezes Often After Waking Up

May 9, 2012

So as some of you may remember, I had problems getting Windows to sleep before. Those got fixed and have been running fine for awhile now. Goes to sleep on its own now.

However, the problem I had before is back and has been going on for awhile. When I wake up the computer, whether it is scheduled in the morning for back up or I do it on my own, more often than not, it freezes a few minutes after waking. I can get logged in, start doing stuff, and then it freezes. Doesn't do it every time as I've had it go for days between freezes with several wake ups in between.

I doubt it is hardware related as I have checked the memory, I have turned down my overclock a bit in case it is processor, and Ubuntu will go to sleep and wake up with no issue. I doubt it is hard drive related as when I had to fix the sleeping issue, the whole hard drive was wiped and then reinstalled so the file structure is different. As the same stuff, services and applications are turned on with each restart, that shouldn't be the problem. Firefox causes script issues in Ubuntu on both my desktop and laptop so I am going to back to Chrome and see if that does it, but I doubt it because I have awoken the computer with Firefox off.
