Data Partition Disappeared
Aug 11, 2009
I have somewhat the same problem as this guy has:
http://windows7forums.com/windows-7-installation-upgrade/14819-c-drive-no-more-visible.html
I read that you guys might need the Diskmgmt information in his topic so here it is:
I had the RC which was dual-booting fine alongside XP. Then I got the RTM, burned it, booted up with it, deleted and formatted the partition on which 7 was (which was the C drive) and installed the RTM.
When I did this I noticed that the os selector had disappeared. So I installed EasyBCD to try to fix the boot-loader but I think I messed up in this stage.
Cause when I tried to boot in XP, I got the "Error loading operating system".
Tried some things to fix it, (which involved reinstalled 7 again just to boot up in it to try to fix the boot-loader), didn't work, gave up.
Put in the XP cd, deleted the XP and 7 partition, and created a new 100GB partition and installed XP on it. ( My 400GB Data partition was still visible and accessible in this stage).
Then I put in the 7 dvd, booted it up, created new 100GB partition out of the leftover unformatted space, and installed it.
No problems during installation, computer rebooted, I got the nice boot-loader screen with the "Earlier version of windows" and "Windows 7" option. Everything still ok, boot up Windows 7 and there I notice that my Third partition, with all my data had disappeared! =S
I'm thinking with is this, I reboot into XP, and there it has vanished as well! What should I do now? I want to get at-least the Data back, I don't care if I have to format my entire drive again and install XP and 7 all over.

I have a 2TB hard drive which i have partitioned into 3 partitions, (249GB for C:, 1000GB for D: data, 613GB for E: data). Now the 1000GB partition which is filled with data has disappeared from My computer. It happened after installing a dual boot with linux and using the 613GB as unallocated space for the linux partitions, (I have since removed the linux and partitions on the E: 613GB and created a ntfs primary partition again).
I have uploaded a screenshot that you can see that partition is not in my computer and in Disk management it only shows by "Disk 0" and not under volumes. I have tried using 'Diskpart' To assign a drive letter but under 'list volume' nothing appears. I have also done a a partition details which shows no volume, dont know if I am able to merge the partition in anyway or if the partition table that needs to be fixed

my computer last night randomly shut off while loading a tv show off Internet. upon restarting windows failed to boot. when prompted with restore and recovery it failed. unable to access safe mode and when it says it is recovering it just says it is finished with no progress restarts to no avail. upon looking at command prompt diskpart, my c partition(30gb) no longer is visible or exists. this is where my windows seven was stored. so i now only have my e drive partition which is a (1 tb drive) repairs do not work, the only option i have is to install on my e drive which warns me it will overwrite my data. i would like my c drive back and be able to boot successfully.

I'm using a 500GB hard drive that is split in to 2 partitions. The primary partition is 50GB, primarily for the OS. The second is the rest of the usable space on the drive, and has all the photos, documents, etc stored on the computer. Today I decided to finally install the Windows 7 RC that I've had sitting around. I moved over any important information on the C drive, the primary partition, over to the D drive, the larger partition, popped the disk in, and in setup, formatted the C drive. I finished the install without incident, but upon getting in to Windows 7, found my second, larger partition, had vanished.

I just installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit and saw that the users private and public data are still saved in the C:Users of the system partition.
So, I'm looking for a specific guide for Windows 7 that separates the system partition from the users private and public data, saved in another partition on the same disk. In addition, private data created during the creation of new accounts (including the Administrator account) must be saved directly in the other partition.
In other words, in the C:Users directory, the All Users, Default and Default User directories must only remain and its must to be fully functional.

I have W7 64 bit and have my main HD partitioned c:/ - 100 gig, F:/ Data - balance of 500 Gog. I have retained the old XP filing system of most self generated data being in a main "My Documents" folder with sub folders such as My Music, My Word Docs, My Pictures etc (I include Outlook in this). My data partition therefore holds most of my data and is frequently backed up to another drive with Synch Toy. However the Users folder is still on the C: drive and accumulates data such as downloads etc. I have Googled this issue and it seems very difficult to move the Users foler to another partition.

I've got my 500gb laptop hdd partitioned with majority on d data partition (have not installed anything ever to d - only c). I do have my user folders relocated to the d part. Where should I install or set up game directory for my d partition? (Current game I'm installing is recommending c/prog files(x86)/published/game title) should I just change c: to d: even though those folders don't exist, installation will create them? Are steam games installed to different path normally than x/program files. How might future steam game installs affect where/what directory folders? Any program for remapping or whatever would be needed to use an xbox 360 controller for pc games?

I accidentally deleted a partition in Windows 7 (dynamic disk) using the disk management tools. That partitions is full of works and photos from the last 2 years. Are there any way I can recover the data? The space left by the deleted partition are still un-allocated at the moment. Do I need to create the partition prior to data recovery? I am using Active Partition recovery to scan at the moment. No result yet.

I installed two new 120GB SSD drives into my system. Previously, I had two 1TB drives in a RAID 0. After doing a performance test to see if there was a speed increase, I also bound the two new 120Gb SSDs into a NEW RAID 0.The idea was to use the new, faster array for windows, and whatever programs I am currently using, and then use the old array for storage. I could install windows on the new drives with So, I proceeded to install Windows 7 on the new array, leaving the old array alone. Installation went without a hitch. I looked at my new drive under My Computer- 1.98 TB. NOT the 240GB partition I just made, and NOT the 1.74 TB partition I used before the new drives. It, for some reason I cant fathom, combined all 4 drives, encompassing BOTH arrays, new and old HDD and SSD into one partition, and had installed windows OVER TOP OF ALL MY DATA.I dont know WHY this happened, but what do I do now to get my data back? I tried starting the computer without the new array, but it wont boot. I need my data back, and I need to get windows installed on the new array, the way I wanted.

I currently have a disc copy of windows 7 and I am currently running it as my main OS as well. I was wondering just in case my computer decides to have a few issues is there anyway I can make a data partition to store windows 7 or put it on a flash drive so that in the incident of a hardware failure I would be able to go into my bios and boot the recovery partition or boot it from a flash drive allowing me to reinstall the OS.

I recently (~2-3 months ago) installed windows 7 on a brand new 1TB hard drive. This hard drive is broken into two partitions - C & G. Windows 7 is installed on C; and G is only for data storage etc. Here is the description of partition C from Disk Management:
C: Simple Basic NTFS Healthy (Boot, Page File, Active, Crash Dump, Primary Partition) 98 GB
Unfortunately, "System" is missing from that description. Somehow "System" ended up on hard drive L - an old 80GB IDE drive that has migrated from build-to-build. This drive has just started on the *hopefully* slow road to death. I decided to retire this drive when I discovered I couldn't securely erase it because it is the System partition (there is only one partition on this drive).
So, how I can relocate the system drive data to another drive (preferably C) in the safest way possible. I found a solution here: [URL]. But I don't want to copy the entire contents of L to a new drive, all I want is the data needed for booting, and to securely erase everything else on L. Looking around, it seems I may be able to boot from a Windows 7 repair disk and recreate the system files on C, but this seems risky and likely to require a full re-install if something goes wrong.
