DVD Drive Not Working
Jul 21, 2011
I have just bought my new Computer having windows 7 installed. It was having a DVD-RW of Sony, but It was not working, So I installed the DVD of my old PC [working 100% on old PC] , But Now it is also not Working.
It Reads CD/DVD but after that it shows an error: Windows cant access this disk. The disk might be corrupt. Make sure that the disk uses a format the Windows recognizes. If the disk is unformatted you need to format it before using.

For some reason my DVD rom drive isn't working anymore. I'm guessing it's a software issue as it can see the DVD but just can't play them.

I can't use my dvd drive. Says I do not have one but it shows it in computer management with an exclamation mark. When I try to update my drivers it says I have the best one. I also tried to use a USB cr drive but it would not show up either!

I have been working very hard to get my cd drive to appear in my computer since yesterday. On this morning I cut my computer on and it recognized the cd drive but as soon as I restarted my computer over it disappeared. Does anybody have anymore solutions to getting my drive to work every time I boot my system up. I mean every time I restart my computer I see the light flashing on the drive and I can hit the eject and it comes open but as soon as my system boots all the way up it stops.

after reinstalling Windows 7(using USB) dvd drive does not appear in "My computer" anymore(Can't find it in Device manager it either). In addition when my notebook is booting I get DELL's warning that some drive can not be identified(and it does not state which), so I have to press Esc to skip that warning so I can successfully boot my windows 7 up.
My notebook's dvd drive don't inject any CD's/DVD's anymore. Seems like dead after reinstall.
Any ideas how to bring it back?

I have a 1TB WD external drive that i was still using until last week when it failed to open. It shows in My Computer as a drive letter J but it doesn't show the usual capacity and free space. Disk management detects it though. Then opening the drive gives me the message that the drive needs to be reformatted before it can be used. I don't want to loose the 900GB files I have in it so I tried some recovery programs like Wondershare but it only recovered 10GB of my files.

I have an Alienware M17x (for over a year now) and all of a sudden I have a problem with my DVD drive. Whenever I insert a CD/DVD, nothing happens. But when I go to My Computer, I see the name of the DVD and when I double click it, I get access to the files. The problem is the autorun. How can I get autorun up and running again when I insert a CD/DVD ?

I have a pioneer blueray writer drive installed in my Sony Vaio laptop. I'm on holiday and brought some DVD's with me to watch in the evenings. I have watched several since arriving but tonight when I tried to play one nothing happened. I checked in device manager and it reports that the drive is working properly but when I checked device region I found that it was set to region 1 instead of region 2. When I try to switch to region 2 I get the following error message;"Unable to update region setting. The drive reports that it requires media of the destination region (region 2) so please insert appropriate media and try again." When I insert a region 2 DVD into the drive and click okay it asks if I'm sure I want to change to region 2, I click OK and I get the same error message as above. I have tried uninstalling the drive and then rebooting the computer to force Windows 7 to reinstall it but it just comes up the same as it was. Any idea how to get this working again?

I have a satellite c675. The dvd drive was working a couple days ago, but now it won't play anything. I'll put in a dvd disk and it would take some time to read it. Then it says please put a disk in when there is already a disk in it. I checked the properties and it says it's working fine when it's really not.

So I recently dropped my laptop and as a result the hard drive isn't working properly. I'm going to buy a new hard drive and put it in, and then try to plug my old hard drive in and get the data off of it.I've got Windows Vista (Home Premium) on my laptop but I want to upgrade to Windows 7. Will I need to buy a Windows 7 upgrade or will I need the buy the entire thing? Because I don't have a Vista recovery disc (it didn't come with my laptop). Another thing is: my brother has the CDs for Windows 7 but he just doesn't have a spare licence key for me to use. What I basically want to be able to do is put Windows 7 on my laptop

I have an Alienware M15x and the CD drive will not read anything I put into it. It'll suck the disc in, make the noise like its reading it but nothing happens. I've tried a fixit tool from microsoft and when it queues me to put the disc in it says it can't detect anything. This is a problem because I want to completely wipe my computer and start fresh.I checked my device drivers and everything seems to be fine except for one yellow exclamation mark that says my bluetooth peripheral device is missing. Not really sure if that's the problem but I just thought I'd throw that in there

I've recently purchased a Sony BDU-X10S Blu-Ray internal SATA ROM drive for my PC but it doesn't seem to install correctly in Windows 7. I had originally installed Seven as an upgrade install over Vista, but I didn't have the drive installed before I installed Seven. I'm dual-booting Vista and Seven at the moment and Vista seems to have no trouble with seeing the drive and playing Blu-Ray discs, but this is a less than desirable workaround.
The drive itself shows up in Device Manager under the 'DVD/CD-ROM drives' section as "SONY BD-ROM BDU-X10S ATA DEVICE" with a little yellow exclamation mark sign on it, and the drive details read "Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52)". The drive does not show up in Computer.
I have tried uninstalling the driver and rebooting but when windows attempts to automatically install the proper driver I simply get a dialog box stating that an attempt to find the correct driver has failed, and to contact the manufacturer. No drivers as such came with the drive and windows Vista seemed happy enough to auto-install it without asking for any drivers.
Windows update and the 'update driver' function of device manager fail to find any different drivers; they both return stating that "the correct driver for this device is installed".
Does anyone know of any other way I can work around this? If possible, is there a way for me to boot into my working Vista install that has no problems with the BD-ROM drive and 'extract' the driver that windows is using? Both of the versions of Windows I have installed at the moment are the x64 platform variants.

I bought a M1530 on the cheap a few months and installed Win 7 x64 with a lot of research primarily from here. Everything worked perfect. The drive is a Teac DVW28SLC. It's a slot load and the only eject button is with volume and DVD controls above the keyboard. I needed to burn something to DVD. I decided to try Imgburn for the software.Installed it, popped a fresh DVD-R in. DVD drive recognized the blank. I usually reboot a computer before burning, realized I didn't so I rebooted. Now, the drive no longer works.
After the reboot:
-Drive is visible to bios.
-Drive cycles on boot up, checking for a disc.
-Drive is not visible in explorer
-Drive is not visible to diskmgmt.msc
-Drive is visible, not disabled and properly installed in the device manager.
-Card reader also seems to not be visible either but is showing up in device manager.
-Disc will not eject from keyboard button.
Things I've tried to fix it:
-Several reboots.
-Uninstall Imgburn.
-Uninstall Daemon Tools Lite.
-Uninstall Drive in Device Manager, then reboot.
-Uninstall Drive and ATA controllers then reboot.
-Delete upper and lower filers at HKLMSYSTEMCurrentCOntrol SetControlClass{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}, no entries were present.
-Reinstall chipset drivers, though I don't think Intel installer changed or installed anything.
-Fixit does not work.

I have a problem with the autoplay, USB and card reader are fine however when using either music CD, or DVD or software CD the autoplay doesn't kick in, when I browse the disk and select autoplay manualy it will start, I have set up everything in my autoplay setting in the control panel (including the check mark on the top), still nothing. I have window 7 home premium. I should point out that the drive is Bluray drive, also this autoplay hasn't worked from the very begining, since the laptop is new, it's very frustrating, I can't find any drivers for the device on ASUS site.

All of a sudden about two weeks ago one of my ports for my wireless router dongle decided to quite so I used another and after a couple days that quit as well. Now none of the four work nor does the disc drive. I have tried everything to attempt to correct this but I get the same result. I don't know if it is in the system configuration I am missing or the CPU board going bad. I would hate to buy a new board and have the same results their by telling me it was the Windows 7 software all together. I could re-install Windows 7 but I do not want to delete all my programs I use that are loaded.
