Upgrade Path to Win 7 Ultimate from HP's free upgrade to Win 7. I purchased two computers from HP about a month ago. They both had Vista Home Premium installed on them with the promise to a free upgrade to Win 7 on 10/22. I presume the upgrade is to Win 7 Home Premium. I was wondering if there is an upgrade path for HP customers to Win 7 ultimate, obviously knowing full well there would be some money involved.

Upgrade Path - XP Home To Win7 Ultimate
I'm building a new system to replace a laptop that I purchased several years ago with XP Home edition (32 bit). As that system will be re-used as a linux system, I would like to use it as an upgrade path for my new system. The new system is a 64 bit system and I plan on installing Windows 7 Ultimate. I've got all of the original install disks and the Activation Key for the original system. Will I be able to use the Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Upgrade to do a clean install on my new system?

Network File Copy Win7 To Win7 Slow
Copying files between Win7 machines using Windows Explorer or Robocopy seems to be as slow as it was with Vista. Robocopy copies 2MB/sec only over a 100 Mbps connection between my workstation and notebook. Copying 12GB takes nearly 2h. Is anybody seeing better network copy performance? TV Card Works With XP But Not Win7
My TV card (unknown brand, 878TV) works beautifully with XP pro but not with windows 7. I've tried everything repeatedly, new drivers etc. Is the only solution to buy a new TV card? It works partially with DScaler, but not at all with the win7 player.

No Screen Recording Software Works On Win7
I cannot find any high quality Screen Recording software that will work on Win 7. Camtasia Studio 6 installs fine and I have tried ALL compatibilty settings, still NO GO. ADOBE Captivate 4 will not work either. I have tried several others, all with the same results. Outside of me posting 100 different error messages does anyone have a clue where I should start with this problem? I have been a beta tester for MS since 1992 and this issue has confounded me more than anything I have encountered. BTW I run an AMD Phenom-X4, 4GB RAM, Nvidia 9800 GT, 4GB ReadyBoost and have DivX and all other CODECS freshly updated.

Dialup VPN Works In XP But Not In Win7 - Error 734
I am able to connect via dialup VPN on my XP laptop, which is sitting next to my new Windows 7 laptop. I know I have the correct password, as I can get in on the XP machine. I've matched as many parms as possible between the XP machine and the Windows 7 machine. I've spent 20+ hours searching the web for a solution. Under Options, I have tried checking/unchecking Include Windows Log On Domain (it is checked on the XP machine). Under PPP settings, negotiate multilink is unchecked. Under Security, Data Encrytpion I have tried NO and Optional (XP is set to optional). Under Allow These Protocols, I have tried every combination of PAP, CHAP, and CHAP2 (6 different ways of having boxes checked and unchecked) The connection attempt failed on port: COM3 because of the authentication protocol selected. Check to see if the authentication protocol is supported in the operating systems at the client and server ends of the connection                                                                    At this point I am at a loss. PLEASE, can some offer more suggestions?

Can't Download A New Copy Of The Win7 Beta
I had downloaded Windows 7 (per invite) in December, I went ahead and installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit around the 1st of the year. I was using it for a few months, and during that time period, the original iso. disc that I had burned, was broken, and I was unable to use it, but I wasn't worried about it, I just figured, that if I needed it again, I would simply download it. Well I had to do a complete PC restore back to Windows Vista 64 Ultimate, after I ran into a problem with my accounting software, not being compatible. I use Quicken, and I had an older version from 2004, and Windows 7 was not able to convert the files, that I had backed up to an external disk, and I needed the information, so I had to do a complete PC restore back to Vista. Now I cannot download it at all? I have a key code, so why can't I get a download, or a beta disc copy?

Creating A Copy Of Win7 From Initial Bootup
I was told I could create a copy of windows 7 from initial bootup when turning on my HP Pavilion dv7t notebook by either pushing f8 or f11? Can someone please tell which is the proper key and how to do it from there? I already have the dual layer disc to burn it on, but can I burn it from the cd burner in the computer or an external cd burner(I have one of those as well). This computer has not been turned on yet.

Wireless Usb/pci Adapter That Works With 64 Bit Win7
I've just built a new core-i7 system running Win7 64 bit, but none of my existing wireless adapters are able to get a working internet connection. I have an Airlink wirelessN, Dlink wireless g, and an Encore PCI card. None of it worked, and after some Googling, I found that this is a widespread problem - many of these devices simply do not work in Windows 7 64 bit. I have no clue if this is a drivers problem that simply will take some time for manufacturers to address. But Windows 7 beta has already been out for a while, so this is discouraging. Are there any existing known reliable wireless adapters (specific models) that work with Windows 7 64 bit? I'm desperate to find one that works, preferably something I can get at a store (Frys or Best Buy) so I can test it immediately.

Unable To Use Digital Copy Of DVD Movie Win7
I have a Sony pc (Sony Vaio vgn-NW270f; comes with a Blu Ray drive) that I purchased less than a month ago. It came with Windows 7 and Windows Media Player (version 12.0.7600.16415). I recently purchased a Blu Ray DVD that came with a digital copy of the movie. The Blu Ray plays fine in my computer. However, I cannot get the digital copy of the movie to work in Windows Media Player. When I follow the onscreen instructions to start transferring, I get this message "Message from Web Page Warning – this software requires Windows XP or Windows Vista to operate correctly" I have done all the Windows updates except for two optional updates (Microsoft Silverlight KB974331 and Update for Internet Explorer 8 Compatability View List for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems KB975364). What do I need to do to make this work?

ATI Card Works Fine In Win 7 Ult RC, Not In Win7 Prof
I've been using the Windows 7 Ultimate release candidate as an evaluation copy for a while now with no problems. I have an ATI radeon mobility X1600 graphics card in my laptop and I'm using an external monitor through my laptop's DVI port. I bought a product key for Windows 7 professional and therefore had to reinstall that version because I'm using Ultimate as the evaluation copy. I have each version on its own partition so I can switch back and forth between the two. The problem is that the newly installed windows professional copy will not recognize my ATI graphics card and I can't use my external monitor. It has the standard windows VGA adapter drivers installed. I've installed and run the ATI file i downloaded off their site, '9-9_beta_win7_32_dd_CC', and this accomplishes nothing. I looked in device manager on the working ultimate version and the card is installed correctly so I copied all of the drivers and files it says its using and then tried to update the driver for the standard windows VGA adapter and it says it can't find any better drivers than the current ones. I remember initially having this same problem when I first installed the Windows 7 Ultimate RC several months ago but I have no clue how I was able to get it to work... Any ideas?

Upgrade Path From Localized Version Of Vista To MSDNAA EN US Version Of Win7
I'm running an OEM version of Windows Vista Home Premium, and since I'm a class B netizen I only had access to a localized version of my operative system. The MSDNAA graciously makes a copy of Windows 7 Professional English and a copy of Windows 7 Multilanguage Pack available to me. Howerer there is no localized version of the former and no WinVista equivalent of the latter. The Windows installer aborts pointing out the localization conflict and links me to this unhelpful page. My OEM seems to have disabled the option of using Windows Anytime Upgrade, so I will not pour money into this option just to get the option to relocalize my OS to English 'just in case'. Also, I would really rather not lose a week into driver scavenging, clicking through programs installers, staring at progress bars getting filled (multiple times). I'd really want to just upgrade. Is this a dead end? Do I have to cross my fingers and wait for Godot err a localized version of Win7 to appear on MSDNAA? Or is there a way around this?

I installed Win 7 RC on a new build and purchased Vista Home Premium 64bit OEM with upgrade to Win 7 Home premium. The Win 7 upgrade disc has arrived. I understand that Vista must be installed and activated for the upgrade to work. Attempts to install Vista with Win 7 RC running or booting from the Vista disc lead to error code 0x80070103, insufficient free space. My HDD has > 450 Gb free space in 2 partitions. Do I need to reformat the HDD in order to install Vista over Win 7?

System Image Recovery From Win7 Disk Fails With Volume Shadow Copy Error
Recently, I tried to install Ubuntu in a dual boot configuration and it destroyed the partition table of my drive that also contains Windows 7. I know this because I used recovery software to see the NTFS partition still contains all of my data. However, now I cannot boot at all. I tried the startup repair and the Windows installation is not listed, which I guess is expected since it looks like an uninitialized disk. Since I have a backup image on a network drive, I proceeded with System Image Recovery from the Windows 7 disk. I went to advanced options and logged onto my server and selected the appropriate drive with no problems. Immediately after starting the recovery, it fails telling me that the Volume Shadow Copy component has encountered an error with code 0x80042302. I have tried another disk to make sure it wasn't a bad burn.I cannot get this to work and am wondering if anyone has tried the image recovery from a network drive yet. Is there a bug in build 7000?

XP 64 Upgrade Path
I currently use XP64 and will pre order Win7 Prof. but I need an assurance that this 'upgrade' will work. I read that in Europe the 'upgrade' version will not actually be an upgrade but a full copy. Any ideas as to how licensing will be controlled here? There seems a lot of discussion about the XP path but other than a single line statement on the MS shop site I cannot find anything concrete yet. I have not bothered with Vista as trying to help others has put me off after years with good old XP. It seems that using the XP to Vista upgrade path invalidates your XP license so will this also be the case with XP to W7 as a copy of XP as an emergency would give me a nice warm feeling until W7 has matured.

Odd Upgrade Path
I really need some advice if you would be so kind. I haven't been able to find any info from googling from anyone trying to do what I'm doing. I looked over the dual boot tutorial and didn't specifically see anything that would help, but maybe I'm blind. I was hoping someone here would be able to tell me if this scenario is viable before I start? Right now, I have a XP/Vista (32-bit) dual-boot system. I would like to put Windows 7 over XP, my primary with boot record, and preserve Vista as the secondary (I don't think I need it to be boot-able but it would be nice I suppose). Is this going to work? And a second question, if you would, can I make the Windows 7 replacing my XP partition 64-bit, with Vista remaining 32?

I've got two 32bit Vista machines. I would like to get the Home Premium Family Pack and upgrade them both to 64bit Windows 7 machines. Can I do that? Will Windows 7 let me format my machines and then the install the 64bit Home Premium versions? I can give it my existing Vista keys, that's no problem. I know that you can't go directly from 32bit to 64bit, but I wonder if I could just use the 64bit disk and pop in my 32bit Vista keys..

Upgrade Path - Soapbox
Ok, so this is part question and part soapbox. I have been using Vista Home Premium for quite awhile and for the most part I have enjoyed it over XP. I am currently running Windows 7 RC and enjoy this version even more. I am thinking about going to Ultimate version when the option becomes available. I noticed that the upgrade path is going to be Vista Home Premium to Seven Home premium and Ultimate to Ultimate. My question is, does this mean that if I want to end up with Windows 7 Ultimate do I need to upgrade to Vista Ultimate for $160 and then upgrade again for what ever MS decided to charge? My soap box is I feel like Vista users are getting shafted. Windows 7 is essentially a fixed version of Vista. It seems like Microsoft reacted to the poor roll out of Vista by moving to Windows 7 quickly. Windows 7 should have minimal cost to Vista users and more flexibility of upgrading. Just my thoughts.

I Am Confused About Upgrade Path
I thought I read some where that you could only upgrade from vista home premium to Windows 7 home premium. I have three computers and would like to take advantage of the presale offer. I am thinking of purchasing one Windows 7 Pro and one Windows 7 Home Premium preorder upgrade. My concern is trying to upgrade from Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Pro. I don't care if I have to do a clean install as I prefer that method anyways. I am only buying two because I am planning on replacing one of the computers anyways which will come with windows 7. If I Purchase the upgrades will I be able to upgrade from Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Pro?

Windows 7 Upgrade Path
A while ago I was given a German Windows Vista Ultimate (both 64bit and 32bit on separate disks) during a Micosoft promotion event. Now I am not sure what kind of version I got here (maybe you can help me out). On the disks is written that it includes Windows Anytime Upgrade and that I am not allowed to resell it. There is also an item number on the disk: X12-73442-01 (64bit) and X12-73358 (32bit). Would I be able to upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate with this? How could I find this out? How much would it most likely cost me (germany)? I have never installed these disks anywhere. How can I make sure I don't buy an upgrade only to find out that it is not working with my version of vista. Also, it seem that a there is no specific sytembuilder ugrade. In case my version is a systembuilder version I would come cheaper buying a full systembuilder windows 7 ultimate than buying a window 7 ultimate upgrade. I can't upgrade vom system builder windows vista to full version windows 7, can I?

The Network Path Was Not Found
I have networked my desktop and 2 laptops. The all run windows 7. I have shared the appropriate folders and permissions. However, when I try to access the network, I can see the other computers but can not access the shared driver. The error is "Error Code: 0x80070035 - The network path was not found" Has anyone had this problem and fixed it yet.

Path Is Too Deep : Error Message
I installed Windows 7068 in my Asus G2s Notebook, and everything worked just fine for like 2 months. But, the 7100 version was released, and i wanted it, so i backed some important files up, and formatted my computer. The installation was fine, but, when i was restoring my files from the backup, there was a particular file that wouldn't copy. It is Fallout 3.iso file. I tried copying it like, 10 times, and everytime i tried to copy, it would stop at 2.4gb +-. After it stopped, explorer wouldnt respond, and its process couldn't be finalized. So, the only solution was to shut down the computer. I tried many things, to see if i could solve the problem (without any sucess) -Gave full permission to the Folder and Hard Drive -Tried to copy the file inside the HD and copy it again to my hard drive, but even copying inside the HD, it would stop at 2.4gb. -Tried many other things, with no sucess. Until i tried it on my mom's XP Notebook. I copied it, and on 2.4 GB it would say : Cannot copy Fallout3.iso Path is too Deep Tried everything, but none of it worked.

Network Path Not Found Between Two Notebooks
I am running a PC Win XP sp3, wired to a Buffalo Air Station WiFi router and WiFi to two notebooks running Windows 7 RC. I am able to share both ways between the PC (XP) and the two notebooks, all three can see the other two on the network. The notebooks are configured for home network and both have the same Homegroup password. When I try open a connection between the notbooks, ether way they report:- "NETWORK PATH NOT FOUND" error 0x80070035 Both notebooks are running clean installs, not upgrades. with all win 7 service updates

Windows 7 Upgrade Path Problem
A new hire recently arrived with a personal laptop running Vista Home Premium. We have a site license agreement for Windows 7 Business which allows us to put it on one personal computer. Is there any way he can be upgraded so he doesn't have to reinstall all his applications? For example, is there a way he could "upgrade" to another version of Vista that would allow him to upgrade to our Windows 7? He has enough other software that involves licensing that this would be a real problem.

Windows 7 Upgrade Path Question
My friend wants to take advantage of the Windows 7 upgrade prices, but he asked me an interesting question about whether or not he'd be eligible. He is currently running XP Pro, and I know that you qualify for the upgrade (by clean install) by having XP. However, he told me that his copy of XP isn't legitimate. I'm not sure if he has a volume license installation or what, but he did tell me that Windows doesn't nag and appears as if it's genuine and activated. He wanted to know whether or not the Windows 7 upgrade disc would check for a genuine installation or if it would just recognize that XP was installed and that was good enough to qualify. I thought the latter was right, but he wanted me to ask around before he threw down the $50. Anyone have some insight?
