Computer Not Recognizing DWA 556 D-Link PCI Express Adapter After Installing Drivers
Dec 19, 2011
I have the wireless adapter working fine, well it was working fine. The strength of the connection was only 2 bars for some reason as of late. I have other computers and they're all fine. So I assume maybe I can fix it by installing the drivers for it. The moment I install it the computer stops recognizing that I even have the wireless card hooked into my mother board! Did the driver installation break it? Because even it when it was supposedly done installing it claimed that I needed to actually plug the thing in! Even though it was working fine a minute ago. I've tried running the program but it wont even acknowledge my clicking. I tried unplugging and plugging the hardware in and that didn't work, I even changed its slots. I don't know what to do short of just reloading windows on it and skipping every using the driver cd.

I've been running windows 7 pro 64 bit for just under a year now. Couple days ago the computer was on just sitting idle while i was around the house, then i noticed this message pop-up the windows firewall was not active and if i wanted to activate it, ever since then i have not been able to get the computer to recognize any sort of internet connection. Im on a wired connection to a wireless router (D-Link Xtreme-N Dual Band Gigbit), all other computers connected to the router work fine.there is a red cross in the little network icon in the taskbar. If I click that icon, it says No connections availableIf I click troubleshoot, it says Problems found - There might be a problem with the driver for the local area connection adapterIf I look in the device manager, there IS an entry for Network Adapters, in fact there are two:
1) Realtek PCIe GBE family controller (which i recognize as the one from my motherboard Asus P7P55D-E Pro
2) WAN Miniport (PPPOE) [i have no idea where this comes from, but it has a yellow exclamation sign above it]
I have uninstalled 1) from the device manager and let windows re-install it on reboot, i tried installing drivers from the CD the mobo came with, i tried going on another computer and getting updated drivers from the Realtek website, none of them worked. if i try to uninstall the WAN miniport it does not disappear? If I look in BIOS the contorller is there and ON. Reboot, swapping ethernet cables, restarting router, scanning for viruses/malware with MSE, Webroot Complete, Malwarebytes finds nothing. If I rollback to an earlier restore point, it doesnt help. The only thing i can remember that happened before the loss of connection was an update to TuneUp Utilities 2012 and Webroot Secure Anywhere 2012, both of which i've since uninstalled to see if it was one of those, but still nothing. Also completely disabling Windows Firewall doesn't help either.

Installed D-link DWA-140 on my laptop running Windows7 SP1,no problem with the installation.Clicked on the D-Link icon, up came D-link Wireless Connection Manager this was empty, clicked on new and entered my wireless network, clicked on activate, nothing happened.Went to Network and Sharing Center, On the left clicked on change adapter settings, my D-link Connection is showing Disabled, right click, then on Enable, changed to enabling, then enabled, D-link still Disabled.I have the message, Wireless adapter not found, insert the adapter now.My question is?. Where do I find the Wireless Adapter.I went to Device Manager then Network adapters the D-Link adapter is showing and there is No yellow mark on it, right clicked, This device is working properly.

Built a Win7 system last night, installed my D-Link DWA 552 Extreme Adapter and now everything just seems to be rubbish. World of Warcraft will post 2500+ ms, internet is dragging, and my life is crumbling before my eyes it seems.
Had no worries or issues with Vista or XP - in fact they ran fantastically. Thinking it's a Win7 issue having read over some other threads.
Thoughts? Recs? New Adapter needed? Or?

I hate to admit it, but one of my recent purchases of hardware I can only get a driver for XP! It's a D-Link DWL-AB520 Wireless Adapter.
I don't suppose anyone knows of a way round this, or where I can get a driver? I've tried the D-Link Site and others, but no joy. I think I'm out of luck!

I've done a lot of searches using variations of the above title and came up empty or just plain missed the answer.I'd like to know, if it is not asking too much, the following points:
1. What exactly is the function of Link State Power Management in the Power Options Advanced Settings, PCI Express?
2. What are the implications of using the options available:
a) Off.
b) Maximum power savings.
c) Moderate power savings.
d) Which option is the best selection for my Dell laptop.

My desktop d-link wireless card is causing my desktop to stutter. I have done a bunch of tests on my hardware / software / drivers, and I am sure it is a problem with the D-link card. I am currently at school where I have to connect to the internet using XpressConnect ( Cloudpath Networks - WPA2 )The stuttering effects the entire system (sound, video, keyboard/mouse, etc) and lasts for a few secondsdditionally, it only occurs when streaming video/music online, or when playing online games.I have updated the drivers, and I have installed the drivers without the D-link software using device manager and selecting the driver files from my computer.

My virgin Super Hub wireless option is on - yes I am typing in the correct security key - yes
I disabled the security key making an open connection - yes
It detects my wireless modem , but doesn't connect, - yes
This is simply a windows 7 64 bit problem
The TP-LINK TL-WN722N Wireless Adapter has glowing reviews and works on my XP machine.
There is something in windows 7 stopping this device from working.
I even used a different wireless usb stick and that worked .

I am having quite some trouble to install windows 7 on my new SSD drive. When I reboot without the old HDD the windows cd doesn't start up. So I tried to run the CD while under windows on the old HDD, which did work, but now I only have 8gig install on the SSD and its only a boot drive not a system one. Could it be that my motherboard is to old? I did have some issues to run the SSD alone, bios didn't recognise it quite often.
CPU - Core Duo E6500
Motherboard - Asus P5VD2-VM
RAM - 2 gig
old HDD - Samsung IDE 250 gig ( about 10y old )
new HDD - SSD Onyx 32gig + Samsung 1T both SATA

I know that you just have to plug an external hard drive in to a computer and it works right away. My problem is, I used my external hard drive so I could tape TV shows on my Bell Express Vu receiver. I disconnected the external drive and want to use it on my computer but for some reason, I can't get it to work. It shows up under Devices and it's called "Desktop". Can't see what's on it or even open it. Normally they will show up under the same area as you other drives but it won't this time.

I have windows 7 installed on a PC I built a little over a year ago. I recently upgraded to the windows 8 consumer preview, but I didn't like it so I'm trying to switch back. When I install windows it works fine, I can turn my computer off and on as many times as I want and it will be fine, but if I install any video card drivers or any of the updates that windows tells me to install, the next time it boots up I either get the windows splash screen or a black screen right after it says, "starting windows", and shows the 4 orb things that spin around and turn into the windows logo. It stays on this screen for 5-10 seconds and then continues to black or the splash screen. I have tried installing only my video card driver, I have tried installing only one of the recommended updates, but no matter what I install it doesn't work the next time it boots, so I don't think it's a problem with one specific driver. However I have selected only the ones that started with: important windows update, or something like that, none of the security updates or anything and those installed successfully. I have reset my bios and changed every setting I can think of, but nothing works. I have also completely formatted and re-patitioned my hard drive. I have basically reset my computer as much as possible without building a new one. What else can I do? I need to install my video card driver at the very least or I can't play games, which is the whole reason I built a PC

I recently build myself a gaming computer the specs are as follows:
i5 3570k
16GB G.Skill 1600 Mhz
ASRock Extreme4
Evga 750 Watt PSU
Asus GTX 670 2GB
After I Installed all of the drivers for everything but the graphics card it was finally time for that and as soon as I downloaded the newest drivers from Nvidia and restarted my computer I immediately got into a reboot loop and any time I've tried going into safe mode to delete the drivers my computer restarts. On top of all of that there are these red vertical lines all over my monitor.

I have a 6 month old computer with Windows 7 on it. Anyhow, I always use iTunes and backup/load songs from it to my iPhone 4 and 2nd gen iPod.About a week ago is when I last was able to connect my iPod to itunes and load new songs. However now my computer no longer recognizes my iPod. I thought it was iTunes at fault but my computer still recognizes my iPhone no problem (with the same cord) and my computer also recognizes my gps watch with its own separate cord.I've tried restarting my computer, unplugging it, using both USB ports but to no avail. The ipod charges when plugged in to the computer but it just isn't being recognized (there are no removable storage devices showing in my computer either).I opened device manager and it shows 2x Generic USB Hub, 2x Intel 6 Series...Hos Controller, 2x USB Root Hub, 1x USB Mass Storage Device. When I go to properties > details > hardware ids of the USB Mass Storage Device it shows USBVID_0BDA&PID_158 and also USBVID_0BDA&PID_158&REV_5888.

I'm using an Asus P9x79 Deluxe with the antenna that came with the mobo, along with Windows 7. I normally have the computer plugged into an ethernet channel, but today I moved it into a different room for work and it cannot connect wirelessly to the internet. In fact, it does not give me that as an option at all! Strange, as I never had this problem before. The only significant change that I had was I installed Adobe Creative Cloud, but I don't see how that could mess things up.

I purchased a drawing tablet that connects via USB to my windows 7 machine. I installed the drivers and I see the proper ones on Device Manager. Yet after it is installed, Windows 7 does an extra step and searches for the drivers. It says that the drivers could not be found. But the drivers are installed. I am looking right at them. I uninstalled that "unknown other device" manually from the device manager and restart the computer. The device works. The computer recognizes the drawing tablet and it works for a little while. But again, Windows 7 begins its automatic search thing. It does something that makes the tablet not work anymore.

Any suggestions?
