View 1 Replies View RelatedIn Windows 7 how can I change "Folders View" for individual folders without changing them system wide. For example if I select "always show icons" all my folders are set this way, and that's fine. But there are a few folders I have containing jpeg images, and I want to view those as "thumbnails" without effecting the others which are set to always show icons.
This was very easy to do in Windows XP but I can't figure out how to do it in Windows 7.
Is it possible to change the shape of the Folders associated with Windows 7, to that of XP ( I do not know why he wishes this ? )
View 6 Replies View RelatedWindows 7 Folder Background Changer is a free tiny portable tool that allows you to change any folder's background & text color in Windows 7/Vista. How to use: Run the tool as administrator. If you have run this tool for the first time then it will restart Explorer. Click on Browse and browse for the folder of which you want to change the background/text color. Click on Change Background Image and browse for the image that you want to set as the background of the folder. Click on the Black color rectangle and select the color that you want to set as the text color of the folder. If you want to display a shadow under the text of all the items in the folder, select Show Shadow Under Text. This option will only work with icons view. If you want the style of this folder to be applied to all the sub-folders, select Apply To Sub Folders.

i am selling a laptop to a co-worker but am having troubles changing the user name. This is windows 7 home premium 64 bit. The folders under "users" are the "public" and the my name. I want to change it from my name to their name but it has a lock symbol on the icon and I cannot figure out how to do it. I was able to go into user accounts and change the name there, no problem. But the "users" folder will not change also. How do I do this? I do not want to do a fresh install or anything - this laptop is only one month old but I ended up not liking it. I already installed Abode professional, Office Professional 2010, and a bunch of other software that the buyer is paying me extra for, so doing a clean install would screw that up for them. Is there any way to change the folder name or are they just stuck with it?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI work at a school as Computer Applications Technology teacher. The students bring homework to school on their flashdrives, and though we have good antivirus software at school, the viruses on their home PC's will often do considerable damage to the data on their flashdrives. One of the most common problems we have is some virus that sets the "system" attribute on all folders, effectively hiding them, and then creating shortcuts named after those folders, inviting people to double-click them, thereby effectively installing the virus locally (though our antivirus blocks it). So the problem is that those folders (with their homework) can only be revealed by going into "Folder Options" and selecting "Show hidden files and folders" and removing the option to "Hide protected operating system files". This is a big breach in security. So I usually have to change those settings, run the Attrib command in the command line to change all the folders, and then re-enable the settings. All of this takes up valuable time. What I would like to know is, is there a way to give the attrib command once, thereby changing the attributes on all folders on a specific flashdrive? I played around with the /S /D and *.* settings, but couldn't accomplish anything.
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo the problem is had a virus called the system check virus and started going through the manual process of getting rid of it. One part of it is making hidden folders, etc accessible and then renaming the virus files so it doesnt recognise them and they stop running. While in there i accidentally changed two of the folders names which had alot of characters so i mistook it for one of the virus files.I've since learned these are windows folders and needed. was hoping someone could post a screenshot or something showing what these folders are meant to be called so i can change them back.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm running windows 7 ultimate and am trying to install some software off of a secure server at a remote location to my hard drive. The install fails every time because the my user account (an administrator) does not have full write permissions to the program files directory. I have tried taking ownership of the directory, but I don't have permission to change it from TrustedInstaller.
I turned on the built in administrator account and logged in through that, but there is no difference in permission level. When I attempt to change the permission level I get the following error dialog box: An error occurred while applying security information to:
C:Program Files (x86)
Access is denied
Then the following: Unable to save permission changes on Program Files (x86)Access is denied. I've been fighting with this for three days now and I consider myself pretty adept at typical windows bs. Yes, my UAC is set all the way down. That was the first thing I turned off. I also tried shutting down virus protection and firewalls to no avail. Any help here would be awesome since none of the posts I've been able to find say what to do when the admin can't take control from TrustedInstaller.
i had last year Icons sizes change back to details sizes on specific folder
may also be relate to the issue that this user had Shortcut icons re-sizing randomly My OS had gone crazy and change icon's sizes back to details sizes in random folders, last time i had that issue i thought it was solved by this method Icons sizes change back to details sizes on specific folder
But unfortunately it only was temporary, i had to format anyway so the problem was solved after the format and never appeared again till 3 days ago.
it not seem to be a virus but it really annoy, the only thing i done 3 days ago that was extraordinary for me was to edit some video on windows live movie maker + cccp codecs, i rarely use WLMM but happened to use it 3 days ago, and after that the issue reappear, i can't use system restore since i done alot of stuff on my pc and don't want to lose them, and also i don't happened to made restore point before the day the issue occurred and the rest are deleted..so SR is not a option.
I have just done a clean install of Win 7 Pro 64. I have set up four accounts and for each one I have moved the user folders to a separate hard drive by using the Right Click Properties > Location > Move. I have done this for the following folders:
- Desktop
- Downloads
- My Documents
- Favorites
- Links
- My Music
- My Pictures
- Videos
I have done it exactly the same way on each account (and more than once! I've been imaging the disk and have restored backwards a few times.)
The problem is, on three of the accounts, when I move the My Music, My Pictures, and Videos then they do move correctly but three rogue folders appear named Music, Pictures and Videos. And I can't delete then since they are system folders.
But the weird thing is that this does not happen on one of the accounts!
how to get rid of the extra folders as they're cluttering up the users home folder and causing confusion.
I have problem, recently all new folder are created optimized for video content with big pictures and such. How can I fix that so they are created as normal folders, because this is driving me nuts having to change this for every new folder.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've been using these fourms for a few years sense I built my computer. I was having hardware issues and you guys helped me fix my computer before, I think I have a more serious problem than I had before. I'll try to keep this as short as I can, I've had a lot of computers over the years not to say I'm that savvy but I know what I'm doing somewhat, I've delt with most of any computer problems you could think of but i think this is beyond google instructions. It started I'd say about a week ago my explorer kept crashing when I opened any folders, I was searching for a solution for a while but I could just browse using programs so I put up with it for a while. I formatted my computer about 4 days ago, and it wouldn't get through "completeing instalation" , I had to turn something on in bios it wasn't RAID but it was the other one I forget what it was also unplugg all USB and use devicemg to turn off the unknown devices that where freezing the instalation of windows, it installed and everything looked to be fine, finally formatted my computer and tried to open a folder and after all that I'm back at square one with the folders not opening. Explorer doesn't crash anymore but it freezes up and I need to restart explorer to do anything else. I can open the event viewer but I've only recently read about event viewer so idk how to use it. My wireless adapter requires drivers to work I got them on a flash drive but I can't acesses it so I'm writing this on my iPod i don't know what else I could say, I never flashed my mobo or anything yet, no hardware changes in years and all the computer parts are fairly new, I'm running windows 7 64bit, i tried sfc /scannow it failed at 11% chkdsk /f said it would scan once i restart but i dont see how this could help sense ive just formatted..

A few weeks ago all the folders that where pinned there disappeared (even the ones that where added automatically) and if I try to add new ones nothing happens.
