I ran a PSI Secunia scan & found that I have an "insecure" version of MSXML Core Services 4.x. They list a later one that I can't seem to locate in Micosoft Update. What are these Services & are they important? Plus how can I update if difficult to locate in MS Update? MS Essentials says my computer is up to date.

Update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2 for x64-based Systems (KB973688). I've continuously receive an error stating this update failed. I've been trying to figure what could be the cause. I just purchased a new laptop (Acer - Aspire) that was preloaded with Windows 7. All other updates have been successful. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Also, has anyone had any trouble with installing MS 2007 software on Windows 7; do you forsee my current issue hindering future MS 2007 install? I'm currently using MS 2003.

NOTHING fixes this. View 6 Replies View RelatedI really need some help installing Java Version 6 Update 26. I was clearing junk out of my computer and I deleted the Java folder in Program Files(x86) by accident. At first, I'm like "Oh, well I guess I could just go to the site and redownload it." This is where the problem is. On the website it says to uninstall any traces of Java before reinstalling it. I have unfinished/corrupted traces that wont let me uninstall. So I went ahead and tried downloading it. That comes up, so obviously the corrupted install is in the way. So, I just try to reinstall as it says. Then this comes up: After that, this comes up. I've looked everywhere on Google. At first, I thought it was a problem with my Windows Installer, but it says Windows Installer 5.0.7600.16385 when I type MSIExec in the Command Prompt. Before I knew that, I thought it was because I didn't have Windows 7 Service Pack 1, then I got that. It didn't help the problem I'm having.

I followed the steps to the letter but when I tried exctracting the old files I got an error message saying "This version of updateupdate.exe in not compatible with the version of windows you're running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need a x86 (32-bit) or x64(64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher." There's even a warning message at the bottom right corner sating my Windows copy isn't genuine though I bought this and the previous one at a real store.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to sort out issues with my Windows 7 machine and want to disable/set to manual services that I know are not needed, but every time I have done this in the past (a while ago now) I invariably run into an issue where I've inadvertently disabled a service that was needed by something, and I end up scratching my head (as all of my hair falls out around this point) and enabling everything just to sort it..
Is there any utility that anyone is aware of that lets you toggle service status, with the option to reset to default or reset to last status, while showing a list of services that I've changed?
I can't seem to word it properly for a search engine to find relevant results, and find usually specific services and not something I'm hoping exists.
I wish the Services.msc mmc had a checkbox or some sort of flag to show altered services so you could sort them by that, which would help a lot, but it doesn't.
I have a new build using Windows 7 HP SP1 64-bit which has been up and running for about a month. MS updates for 11/14/12 included the Kernel-Mode Driver Framework version 1.11 for Win 7. This update failed to install (several times), even when done alone. First time since building system where it has failed an update. Only thing I have added since original build is a EVGA GTX 650 video card (last week).

View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm having is that I recently installed Windows 7 Ultimate (from XP Ultimate) and the computer was working really slowly.
First I opened task manager and found only one CPU was being monitored, there was only one window for one CPU, not two windows with only one firing!
This I found strange, checked the WEI and my processor got a 2.3 rating (its a Core 2 Duo @ 1,83Mhz, a T5600), I then downloaded a tone of widgets to check if they could "see" the other core, nothing. I went into msconfig, the no. of processors box is unchecked, if I check it, the drop down menu only gives me the option of picking 1 CPU.

I am running Windows 7 Ultimate on an HP nx9420 laptop with 3GB of RAM, a new HDD (250GB), the old one just stopped working really, and the Core 2 Duo T5600 @ 1,83Mhz that is running only one core.
QX9650, quad core, task manager, cpu-z, cpu-id, shows showing only 2 two cores.I recently upgraded an Intel E8500 to a QX9650 and had the problem of Windows 7 only showing 2 of the 4 cores.It took a few frustrating hours to find the solution, but I got there in the end without the need for a Windows re-install.
1st: You must have Windows 7 Professional. Home Premium does not support more than 2 cores. Upgrade to Pro.
2nd: If Task manager and CPU-Z are only showing 2 cores, you'll be feeling pretty confused, right?
Go to Start-->Run, type MSCONFIG.Under the BOOT tab, click 'Advanced Options'.In the top left corner it says "Number of Processors" (you'll have been here already and it says '2').Uncheck this and do a reboot.This solved my hours of confusion. Now I have 4 cores in Task Manager, CPU-Z and all is well.If all this fails, then get yourself set up for an OS reinstall; that should get you where you want to be.
I'm having an issue with my CPU. It seems that it is only using one of its cores. This issue first became apparent to me when I was trying to run Blacklight Retribution. It popped up a warning message saying that my computer does not meet the minimum requirements of have at least a dual core. And indeed the game was unplayable, with single digit fps constantly. However when i go to the performance tab of my task manager it shows 4 graphs, meaning that 4 cores must be running. Then I go the boot tab of my systems configuration, click on advanced options and underneath the "Number of Processors:" check box (which is unchecked), it shows 1 as the number of processors. My processor is an Intel(R) Xeon(TM) CPU 3.60GHz (4 CPUs), ~3.6GHz.

Ever since i upgraded windows has only seen one core even though its a dual core system. The processor is a AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3500+ 2.20Ghz.
I have checked the BIOS and cant find any related settings and when i go to msconfig in the boot menu (advance) Number of processors is unchecked by default and if i check it the drop down only shows one core. The device manager is not showing any driver issues.
Is the dual CORE 2.8ghz good also for the windows 7 system?

So I installed a beta version of W7 Ultimate and it's displaying a watermark that says "this is not a legit version". I never had a legitimate product key.I want to purchase a real version and upgrade appropriately.Can I purchase an Upgrade license to Windows 7 Ultimate or do I have to purchase a Full version?Also, what if I wanted to install Windows 7 Home Edition instead of the Ultimate version. If I did this, I assume I would have to install the Full version correct?

I got it all installed and the activation key wouldn't work.Long story short I got the upgrade version on accident. So I got that refunded and I'm about to just go buy Home Premium. So my techie guy is downloading an English version (pirate???) and at same time buying a genuine Spanish version. He says he will then use the key code from the Spanish pack to validate the English version.
Is this possible, and could I encounter any problems later? How can I be 100% sure (before I leave the shop!) that I have a validated, genuine English version of Windows 7 that will continue to work indefinitely?
