View 1 RepliesI cannot open the start menu or open any downloads. When I click on any of these the screen flashes blue then goes away. At times it flashs and opens a little window and ask me to type in the folder name where I want to put the download. I cannot open system restore until I go through the help menu and it gives me the link. I can open the icons on the desktop. I use Internet Explorer for my browser but, it does this no matter which browser I use. I have Windows 7 64 bit Dell Inspiron.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 32-Bit. For other system specs I have added them to my profile.
When I open the start menu whether it be with the windows key or mouse click a right click menu pops up and appears to be right clicked inside the search bar, I tested this by copying some text and clicking paste on the auto right click menu.
It stays there until I click something but will come back within 1 second or until I stop holding the mouse button.
I woke up this morning to find out that my computer had a BSOD crash. But this time I couldn't check what had happened the debugger crashed itself before I could look at it. I also found out that my desktop had been reorganized so it was only in columns on the left side of the desktop. Also my recent programs area under the start menu had been wiped. Whenever I try to open any folder I get server execution failed. I have already tried the registry fixes suggested here. Server Execution failed I am unsure what to change, but it seems like my problem is a bit more than just a simple registry problem.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently decided to reinstall Win 7 as it`s been about a year and things are starting to go a bit awry. For instance I can no longer open the Start Menu Control Panel without it hanging and having to restart Explorer. The real problem though is that my DVD drive won`t recognize formatted disks. If I put in a blank up it pops, but nothing else. Device manager says its all ok.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just installed Office 2007 on my Windows 7 (64 bit) HP laptop. It runs great, and everything works great. However with Windows 7 there's seemingly no way to pin New Microsoft Office Document and Open New Microsoft Document to the Start Menu. And what was Microsoft's logic (think) in this regard? And more importantly...how can I put those items on the Start Menu?

When I start up my computer, my Steam starts up, then I manually start Chrome. Chrome comes up fine, Steam does too, but when I try to right click on Steam and click friends, all it does is create another steam process running at 100-108 K. Then if I close Chrome and try to reopen it, it will do the same. This happens with EVERY program after I start up. There's a 5 second window where I can open programs without issue, then after that it will only start 108 K copies of them. It takes me around 30 restarts just to get it working properly, if not more.

Photoscape is my choice of photo editors. When I'm browsing through photos, and I want to edit a particular picture, theoretically I should be able to right-click on the photo to bring up the context menu, and then with the "open with" option, choose Photoscape as the program with which I would like to edit the photo. And if Photoscape is not listed, I should then be able to browse to it and open it with its executable file. Well it is never listed and when I browse to its executable (PhotoScape.exe) it will not open, it just sits there unresponsive, with the "open with" dialog box still open. I can chose another of the listed programs and that program will open, or I can browse to an unrelated program, Quicken, for example, and Quicken will open. There is nothing wrong with the Photoscape executable, because I can go into Windows Explorer and browse to that same .exe file, and it will open with no problem.

View 5 Replies View RelatedKeyboard shortcuts are very important to my computer use, which brings up a small but annoying problem I've been having in Windows 7. In XP I was able to place a shortcut to a program or even to a particular file on my Start Menu. If I then renamed the shortcut on the start menu with a unique initial character, I could start a program or access a particular file simply by hitting the Start key and then an initial. For example, for my most common Microsoft Word file, I need only hit Start and then the letter x, and up pops my most commonly used file. In Windows 7 when I try this I am delayed while Windows performs some sort of search for items starting with an x. In a moment or two, it discovers there is only one such item, and it offers me this item in a list and I must hit enter to get the item to come up. The negative effect of this is still more pronounced when I start a new session and I know how want to open say three separate files/applications. In XP I can do this very quickly if the names I gave the shortcuts are unique. (And even if I have multiple items, say starting with the letter m, the Start men lets me essentially choose which m item I want by repeatedly hitting m. Very quickly, I learn that such and such file is: Start>mm>enter.) is there a way to tell the Window 7 Start Menu to behave like the XP Start Menu?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI unfortunately used Perfect Uninstaller to remove SQL Server 2008 R2 and Visual Studio 2010. After reading the forum I know it was a mistake to use this as it probably infected me.I used Avast to locate the viruses on my HD and then removed them with their program. So, then I tried to re install the SQL Server and it installs successfully but when you go to the start menu, then click to expand the folder it says (empty) under the folderI also re installed Visual Studio 2010 which also completed successfully and when you click on that folder in the start menu, there are items there but they are shortcuts that look like documents (have the document icon), and you cant launch Visual Studio.I so do not want to reformat my hard drive for this to work.
I also ran the unhidefolders.exe from this site but it did not correct the problem.
Any one have any ideas how to fix this? These are the only two programs that are like this on my start menu, the others are fine and work correctly.
Since about Window 95 I've been able to right-click on the start menu and 'explore all users'. I use this to then go into the start menu for all users and organize the crap out of it into folders. In Windows 7, it's gone. OK, so I found where the start menu items are stored in: C:ProgramDataMicrosoftWindowsStart MenuPrograms, I can move items around to existing folders with 'administrator permission', I can create a new folder, but not rename it. There error I receive is something to the effect of 'The action can not be completed because the folder or file is open in another location'
View 9 Replies View RelatedAfter new Windows 7 installation I installed Family Safety Live on 2 of my computers (I have a 3 pack Windows 7 Home).Every since installing Family Safety, when I click on Start menu it stays up for 2 seconds and disappears, which disables me (Admin) and all users from being able to use it all together. It's becoming very annoying.Family safety does have Program protection enabled with specified programs.I'm also running Program control within Windows 7 itself.I think it has something to do with Family safety but I went thru all the options and I couldn't figure anything out. I wonder if Family safety has issues dealing with 2 PCs, but I did notice that in the settings it recognized both computers.
