CD / DVD Player On Laptop Not Burning Music CDs
Jul 27, 2011
I have a Samsung laptop with Windows 7, and every time I try and burn a music CD, I put it in my player in my car and it just makes this feedback noise - no music. It'll play on my laptop, though. It used to work fine with my Dell laptop (which had Windows XP), so I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or it's a system issue. Some songs are mp3 and some are m4a, but the car CD player won't play the disk at all.

I'm trying to sync my Sony mp3 player to my music folder on my w7 laptop. I have downloaded a couple of different sync software (freefilesync & dsynchronize), however, neither of these are able to recognize the sony walkman as a destination folder as it is not assigned its own drive letter under the windows file system (it appears only as 'Walkman' in My Computer). What can I do either assign the walkman its own drive letter, or to enable the syncing software to recognize the sony walkman device as a valid destination folder.

I like Windows 7 but I don't like WMP. In fact I have disabled it and now use VLC player. What is the easiest way to take music from my Music folder and put it on a cd? I tried using WMP and that was a joke. Is there a way to do it using Windows Explorer? Is it possible to insert a blank cd, open it as an extra driver and drag and drop music files into it?

When listening to music on my PC, it does not matter if I use Winamp, Songbird, Quicktime, Windows Media Player, or any other software. Every so often, there appears some sort of distortion, like the drive that the music is on slows down. I dont know if it is the driver or what. Its hard to explain. You have to hear it. I dont think its the mp3 file itself, cause I could play a song and it will be perfect, but then the next time I play it, it will distort. It is really driving my nuts cause I can't find the reason for it.

I am using a third party music player, MusicBee, to play my music, however if I select a folder in windows explorer of an artist that has more than one album in sub folders under the artist name then the "PLAY ALL" button does nothing.
If I select a folder without sub folders inside the PLAY button works fine and open MusicBee to play the music.
I also have VLC installed and if I right click on any music folder I get the Play with VLC option, how can I add this same option for MusicBee.

So i have owned this old surround sound system and have decided to set it up in my bathroom. The subwoofer i've got in there makes this bathroom bounce! haha Okay, so i've got music running into the receiver from my laptop, which is located in my bedroom (used a long piece of RCA cable). I like to create music playlists on my computer, but there's no way for me to press the forward or backward button in the media player from my bathroom. Is there a wireless device that would help me control my music player from my bathroom?I own a wireless mouse, and while it would do the job under certain circumstances, the mouse pointer must always be sitting on either the forward button, or the backwards button, i can't exactly see or choose between either or.This whole thing might sound ridiculous to an outsider, but i think its AWESOME!

I do not want Windows 7 Media Player to play a music cd while ripping it. I had this problem in the days of XP. The solution was simple but I don't remember it.

Not looking for anything fancy or complicated - at the moment I use WMP and I am happy playing 320k mp3s although this might change and the requirement is an easy method of cutting the last played tracks from a random list and placing them at the bottom of the list. Also it would be nice to add new tracks in a random order to places within the list. The main thing is to listen to something new rather than repeat stuff. My list mainly consists of favourites and will probably not exceed 1000 items.

Just replaced my old XP media PC with a Lenovo M92p running Win 7 64 bit. I copied across all the Music folders from the old PC into the Music Library and I can play them by clicking on any track but Windows Media Player has not found and indexed them. I cannot find a Search and Index type function. Is there any way to get this to happen ?
Awesome little piece of hardware btw, perfect for a discreet media unit in the lounge.

I bought a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop new in Italy in December 2009 from a major computer store. The computer came installed with Windows 7 Home Premium (Italian), and I have installed on it an original version of Microsoft Office XP 2003 Professional Edition (English). The CD-ROM unit is a Matsushita DVD+-RW UJ890.Since I bought the computer I have sometimes had difficulty burning DVDs with the built-in Windows 7 burner function that I access from Explorer. Often in the past I have ended up with partially written DVDs. Nevertheless by using high-quality DVDs I have been able to burn DVDs successfully most of the time using the Windows 7 utility. I last used the utility successfully a couple of months ago when I burned a couple of DVDs to backup some photos.
Since yesterday I have been trying to backup my most important files onto DVDs. The attempt has failed in every case. First I copy about 3 GB of files from drive C: onto drive D: in Explorer. These are several hundred files divided into three different directories, consisting mostly of PDF, Word, Excel, and JPG files, some of them with names in foreign scripts like Cyrillic, Japanese, or Chinese. Then I insert a new DVD (either Verbatim or TDK) and attempt to master the DVD by selecting the option write to disk from the Explorer menu (whether from the menus at the top of the screen or by right-clicking on drive D: in the lefthand pane of the screen). A window pops up asking me for the name of the disk, whether I want it to be flash or one-time only, and the recording speed (8x, 4x, 2x, etc.).
Once I click continue to start burning the DVD, a window pops up to tell me that Windows is making an image of the disk, and then the window tells me that it has begun mastering the disk, giving me a countdown of how many minutes are left (6 minutes to 11 minutes, depending on the speed I choose). But no matter what name I give to the disk and what recording speed I pick, after 30-60 seconds the popup window and the Explorer window both suddenly close and the DVD units writing light goes out, but the DVD unit continues to whir at high speed forever.
Here are the results I got yesterday with 3 separate DVDs:
1. On the first DVD I used Windows 7s burn utility on a Verbatim DVD, and I ended up with 28 files burned onto the DVD (making it unusable).
2. On the second try I used some simple burn software that I had used before Roxio Burn on a TDK DVD, and ended up with 4 files burned onto the disk (but from different folders than the 28 files burned by Windows 7).
3. On my third attempt, after going offline, shutting down my antivirus software (AVG), and using Task Manager to shut down processes from that other burn software, Roxio Burn, I used Windows 7s burn utility again on a TDK DVD and ended up with the identical 28 files that had I ended up with the first time, though this time I had chosen a lower writing speed.
In all three of these attempts the DVD unit continued to whir after the windows had closed, until such time as I ejected the disk manually. When I first encountered this problem yesterday I thought the problem might be caused by my antivirus software AVG Free Edition interfering with the writing process, because after one particular automatic update by AVG about two months ago I began having problems with AVG blocking Skype and placing some of my Nokia cell phone software in quarantine. But by disabling the HIPS element of AVG I was able to resolve those problems several weeks ago and begin using Skype successfully again. But just to be sure, today I disinstalled AVG completely and installed Microsoft Security Essentials. Because I had read in a forum online that Windows 7 might have conflicts with other burning software that was also installed, today I also disinstalled the only burning software that I had installed Roxio Burn and did a cold reboot. Before attempting to burn a DVD again today, I also used Task Manager to shut down some other processes that didnt seem necessary, such as a Nokia autolauncher and a Java autoupdate process. I also changed the time delay for Windows sleep or power-save function to one hour.
I inserted a new TDK DVD, accepted the disk name proposed by Windows, chose for the disk to be permanent rather than flash, and chose a burning speed of 4x. After 30 seconds I received a popup window with the following message:
ST Service Scheduling has stopped working.I ignored this message and did nothing, because often in the past when I have succeeded in burning DVDs with Windows 7's utility I have had this message appear, but if I do nothing I almost always have the burn proceed successfully. In this case, though, after another 10-20 seconds the Explorer window and burning-countdown window both closed, the DVD light went out, but the DVD continued whirring at high velocity. The DVD unit did not respond to my pushing the expel button by hand, and when I tried to expel the DVD using Explorer I only got an error message, so the DVD could be expelled only by shutting down the computer. When I turned the computer back on, I discovered that no files at all had been written to this DVD.below are the details from the ST Service Scheduling error message (in Italian, sorry). Whenever I get these ST Service Scheduling error messages I get them twice, i.e., after choosing Close one time the same message immediately appears again and I have to choose Close a second time.

I just installed Windows 7. How do I shut off the feature that asks me to take ownership of every individual folder in my music files from my external drive before I can open them and add them to my media player library? I just want to add them the way I used to in XP or better yet just drag and drop the main folder into media player.

Every time I start playing music (VLC) my laptop restarts. I have been experiencing this for more than a month. Tried reinstalling drivers and even Win7 but nothing seems to help. Previously it used to give me a BSOD restart but since the last time I reinstalled Win7 after formatting the laptop it just restarts and asks me whether I want to start windows in safe mode or normally. This is really disastrous since I am used to continuous music.

I'm looking for at least an i5 processor or something similar, 300gb or more HDD, 6gb or more RAM, and a gfx card that can play World of Warcraft on high settings (not bothered about ultra). It also has to be good for DAW use and audio recording. I use and audio interface for this so I won't worry about the laptops soundcard. Decent cooling would be nice too.

My laptop has hardware support for Win 7 only, so I opted for VirtualBox & installed XP Mode as guest operating system. I loaded softwares meant for Win XP like Guitar FX Box 2.6. But I am unable to set it up properly. It does not seem to independently capture the mic/line in as host OS keeps on playing the input sound in the background. There are issued of unable to select WDM streaming (getting error opening input device). Can anyone shed some light on how I can use XP Mode in my Win 7 laptop to play my guitar/music editing software effectively?
