Bootmgr Missing & The Volume Does Not Contain A Recognized File System?

Jul 1, 2012

I have a toshiba laptop running on windows 7. One day I turned it on and it said "bootmgr is missing press ctrl alt delete to restart."I have been researching how to fix it and have made a repair cd, which boots it and sends me to the start up process, but when I get to the command prompt option and type "bootrec/fixboot" it says "the volume does not contain a recognized file system."

Bootmgr Is Missing - System Restarts Automatically

Dec 15, 2009

I have an Asus Intel (R) Core (TM)2 Duo CPU T6500 @2.10GHZ LAPTOP. I am a basic computer user and simply tried to upgrade to Windows 7 because when I purchased the computer in August it came with a free upgrade.

I performed the upgrade check and folllowed the Windows 7 sugestions. I hit the upgrade button and 2.5 hours later things were going fine. The last step was approx 50% finished (Trasferring files, drives, etc.)

The system retstarted automatically and I received the Bootmgr is missing. I went on the forum and found a sugestion to Boot from the DVD. I tried this and it worked. System rebboted fine. Got a message to repair or revover. I repaired the start up. That worked and now the computer starts from its own hard drive.

After startup, "starting windows", I see wa window that says Setup is starting services and then I get a window box that says, "Th computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows Installation cannot proceed. To install Windows, click "OK" to restart the computer, and then restart the installation.

When I hit ok, the computer restarts and I eventually circle back to this screen.

Do I need to initiate something to restart the installation?

Disk Volume Error - Run System File Checker

Feb 19, 2010

the tip to run SFC -- I'm not sure where the 'command prompt' is now in Windows 7.

What I did was search for sfc, right click, then run as administrator.

It appears something is running, but no window opened to ask or tell me anything. I checked Task Mgr and Resource Monitor and can't find anything resembling SFC, but there is activity even tho' I'm not doing anything else. The hard drive light is also flickering about once per second. What should I expect? Do I just wait patiently? How can I confirm SFC is running and fixing any errors?

"Bootmgr Is Missing" No Operating System?

Oct 16, 2011

my laptop is acting up and has been giving me a black screen with cursor issue lately. So I decided to do a clean install of win7. All was well and thought I installed it correctly. Upon restarting my laptop I get the dreaded "Bootmgr is Missing". So I looked up solutions and end up trying to repair using the win7 boot up disk. Then I try to just install Win7 that didn't work either. So I get either of two errors "no operating system" or I have to load up a driver of some sort. So basically, what can I do? I only have one hdd so I do not have a partitioning issue, and I've tested the hdd and memory and everything was good.

Bootmgr.exe Missing... Mpio.sys Missing Or Corrupted. Unable To Boot?

Oct 28, 2011

I just got a computer for free, a Dell Studio 1555. When I got it, it would try to boot, then come to a screen that said that bootmgr.exe was missing. Sometimes I got a message that said something like mpio.sys was corrupted or missing. I have a Win 7 disk, so I put it in and tried to repair the installation. Each time I ran it, it said that the repair had failed. I tried to reinstall windows 7, and It made it to the first restart in the process. It showed the "Starting Windows" screen, but the colors of the windows logo never appeared, then I got the missing bootmgr screen. I decided to install Ubuntu and see if that worked, and it did (I installed it alongside the Windows installation). It was Ubuntu 10.04. I thought, "OK, so i'll just use this as a Linux machine"...and I decided to go back and reinstall so that I could use the entire hard drive. It never worked correctly again. Each subsequent time that I installed Ubuntu, I was told something along the lines of "Gnome Power Manager did not install correctly" and got a slow and choppy Ubuntu installation.Tried to install 11.10, and it failed completely. I opened the Ubuntu live from my usb drive, and opened the disk utility. I now cannot format, reformat, partition, or delete partitions on the drive. Is all of this just a case of a hard drive on its last legs, or is there something else going on here?

The Application Or Operating System Couldn't Be Loaded Because A Required File Is Missing Or Contains Errors

Aug 13, 2012

All of a sudden my computer after 1 hour freezes and crashes completely.I get a black screen of death with error code 0xc000000e Recovery Screen After i hit enter i got another message saying Your PC needs to be repaired. The application or operating system couldnt be loaded because a required file is missing or contains errors. File: Windowssystem32winload.exe Error code: 0cx000000e After the error happens and I restart, the main hard drive will not show up and I have to restart again for it to show up.SO i just went ahead and formatted the PC and reinstalled windows 7 from scratch. After an hour or less the same thing happened again and also when I reboot the computer asks me to choose which windows 7 I want to log into. Why is this showing up if I formatted the disc completely (Deleted and created New disc while i was reinstalling windows 7)My main drive is a Crucial m4 SDD 2.5 128GB Sata I have 4 other drives with over 2tb each but i use this for files. BOOTMGR Is Missing?

Her computer is an HP laptop it is runnung windows 7 . I have created the recovery disk( 32 bit) from online as that is what most sites said to do. After it said it was loading the windows files I clicked next. Then it said system recovery options. In the box it says (recovered) 292135 MB (d Local Disk. It is checked on use recovery tool taht can help fix problems starting windows. I click next. I get a pop up that says this version of system recovery options is not compatible with the version of windows you are trying to repair,So then I made the 64 bit recovery disk & restarted. I was unsure if it was 64 bit or 32 bit to start.

My Bootmgr Is Missing

Mar 13, 2012

First off, why is reinstalling windows 7 such a pita? I've done it several times and it's soooooooo bad. With that aside, tonight I was attempting to reinstall 64 bit from 32 bit. I reformatted my hd using dos because advanced recovery simple does not work. After formatting and restarting I'm getting te bootmgr error. After reading countless threads with fixes nothing is helping. I CANNOT get past this error. I have the disc in, it won't go past the error. Pushing f2, f8, and f12 does not work. I can't do anything in the bios. Most of the solutions simply assume you can get PAST the error.

The next step I tried was unplugging the hd I formatted and installing to a different hd. This gives me an error of missing a device required. At this point I have no idea what to do besides maybe reformatting the hd again using another pc. Is there a recovery program I should dl to a blank cd?

SSD Missing - BOOTMGR Is Gone?

Apr 10, 2012

I searched the forum for my error: 0x800704f and couldn't find it nor could I get to see my SSD and am therefore not able to use the tutorial to "get it back." Well, I am at a loss at this point. I was originally trying a fresh install of Windows 7 pro. But, just prior, I got an error box that the Catalyst Control Center was not working properly(or something like that). But, when after all my efforts seemed to take me further down the rabbit hole. I concluded that I must post this thread!I built it myself and know just enough to make me dangerous!

I am getting the message bootmgr not found when I start my computer. So I tried using the repair disk and changed the boot sequence in the bios to boot from cd rom first. I also made a bootable usb drive and both will not work. So it connected the drive to my laptop by usb and booted into repair mode. Everything was going well. I did the first two bootrec commands and it said done. the last command I did was the bootrec /RebuildBcd command and it found two installations. I got so excited that I answered yes to both answers. This now has messed up my laptop as well.

Bootmgr Missing

May 17, 2009

When booting up windows 7 RC 64bit I get the message "bootmgr missing" "press ctrl + alt +delete to restart". The odd thing is if I have the boot cd inserted it boots fine, but without it it gives this error. I have used the boot repair tools found on the boot, and tried varieing the boot order in the BIOS. Also I have manually tried to fix it using the command line on the boot disc.

As I have two hard drives I tried removing my secondary data hard drive, but then when trying to repair it using the boot disc it cannot find my windows installation. Can anyone offer any advice?

How To Fix The BOOTMGR Is Missing Error

Sep 30, 2012

I'm very sure, especially if you've ever installed a second HDD on your computer yourself you have seen this message. BOOTMGR is missing Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart.Basically when it says to restart it is assuring you no treatment will work, WRONG! this is one of the easiest problems ever to fix, if you have your Windows 7/Vista installation disc.First step - Boot from installation mediaSecond step - Go through everything until you find a button that says "Repair your computer"Third step - Let it run though, on the first time, it will not find a WORKING operating system, restart when it prompts and boot the disc again.Forth step - Repeat Second step, and now your OS should be listed, click on it and run Startup Repair.Fifth step - Do NOT boot from disc, because it should now be fixed.this i have only tested on 7, idk if this completely complies to Vista)

BOOTMGR Is Missing//using LILO?

May 9, 2011

I have a rather complicated problem with a probably simple solution. I used to have a tri-boot machine - my first primary partition was WinXP Pro, second was a Xubuntu installation with swap on an extended partition, and finally a Windows 7 Pro primary partition.I deleted WinXP Pro and Xubuntu to create my very first Gentoo Linux installation. While that went well, I accidentally broke my Windows 7 startup. It's listed just fine under LILO (unless I listed it improperly) but Windows 7's BOOTMGR is now missing. I'm assuming the BOOTMGR might have been part of the WinXP installation.I went to this guide: Bootmgr is missing - FixHowever, I don't want to replace the MBR. I just want to reinstall the BOOTMGR onto the Windows 7 Pro partition so I can boot both Gentoo and Windows 7 properly. Of course, I might be misinterpreting where the BOOTMGR is normally located
