BSOD On New Install (nvlddmkm.sys)

Jul 18, 2009

I have two computers (mine and my wife's) which are, for the most part identical.. bought the parts all at the same time, just ordered them x2. The only thing I have changed since building them is my PSU.

From within Vista I popped the disk in and began the install process. It appeared to download some updates prior to installing. It restarted and did its thing.

It "seemed" to install fine.. I got to the desktop and started copying various drivers and programs to the desktop to install. As it was doing that, my wife jumped on and changed the wallpaper.. (I watched and that's all she did) I asked her to double click on the newest video card drivers to install them. They appeared to install fine.

A few seconds later the screen began to flicker on and off. Then it locked up and have the BSOD with the nvlddmkm.sys.

It would then restart and before actually loading windows, it would BSOD again with the same file name. Now it's in a loop.

I've tried reinstalling about 3 times. All three times I've booted from the DVD, repartitioned and formatted.

Every time, it will restart at the Finishing Installation step then BSOD with the same file name. I can no longer get it to boot to the desktop.

I'm using the same DVD I used on my PC. Zero scratches on the disk. I've also used an older version of Windows 7 via DVD and that version seems to have problems too. No BSOD but after installing it will restart and post a black screen with a blinking underscore indefinitely.

How is it possible that with identical systems one has problems and one doesn't? Any thoughts on how to correct this?

BSOD's, Nvlddmkm.sys, Dxgmms1.sys, Sys32k.sys

Dec 16, 2011

I've had multiple BSOD issues over the period of last few months, usually it was nvlddmkm.sys which I thought I solved with reinstalling nVidia drivers -> disabling some nVidia services routine. After that the errors came back, though much less frequent.
I've ran into another bunch of BSOD's recently though, when I started playing star wars the old republic mmo. (dxgmms1.sys, sys32k.sys)

My Windows 7 is:

- x86
- I've had WinXP SP3 x86 before, but I've performed a complete system wipe before installing Windows 7
- It's a full retail version
- Hardware age is about 3.5 years
- Windows 7 was installed in March 2011

Nvlddmkm.sys Error, Pc Restarting After BSOD?

Aug 13, 2012

today I was playing minecraft, and the screen just froze, I tried alt+tab, ctrl+alt+del, esc, and all the other keys everyone presses when in panic. But then I realized that nothing would happen and I shut the pc down (I unpluged the energy source).I turned on the pc again, and entered the game again, but the screen blacked out, and I shut it down again. Thinking it had something to do with some bug in my minecraft world, I deleted it and started another one, but again the screen froze and I was forced to shut it down again. At first I thought it was overheat, so I just waited some minutes before turning it on again. When I turned it on, I opened the internet browser (google chrome) and started searching for video cards (at that time I thought that was the problem) but the screen went black again, and this time the computer didn't turn on. On startup, normally the colors are white on black, but it was showing some magenta spots. and after a Blue Screen the pc rebooted and started everything again, asking if I wanted to start windows normally (like it does when you unplug the power source --'), showing BSOD and rebooting. the blue screen showed this:

"a problem has been detected ... windows was shut down... if this is te first time... if problems continue, blah, blah, blah,

TdrDelay tweak in registry.

Complete reinstall of Windows 7 with newest graphics drivers.

RAM checks

Using a two year old driver is not the end of the world, but it would be nice keeping my computer up to date.

Nvlddmkm.sys Stopped Responding But Has Recovered?

Feb 11, 2009

This annoying vista bug persist on my copy of Windows 7 Beta. The screen freezes, goes black, restores - starts showing choppy graphics and frequently gives me a BSOD.

My setup : AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000 Gigabyte GA-M750SLI-DS4 4 Gig RAM Gigabyte GeForce 8600 GT 512Mb w SilentPipe.450W PSU, but I can replace it with a 1kW PSU at any time if needed. This error has been giving me a VERY hard time on vista, SP1 nor any patches nor file swapping didn't help - it is why I've switched to Windows7 - I couldn't get rid of it no matter what - and now it's back, are there any workarounds to this?

Nvlddmkm Driver Has Stopped Responding

Feb 2, 2010

As of late I've been thinking about upgrading to windows 7, simply because I've encountered the dreaded "nvlddmkm driver has stopped responding" message, which leads to a lot of crashes and a lot of f'ing and blinding!!! Correct me if I'm wrong, but what I've read about it is, it's a vista only related issue.

My question is, has anyone else experienced this error? And if so would I be right in thinking that installing windows 7 would eliminate this problem? And also have a less glitchy experience with windows?

I've tried so many fixes without luck, I even read that running 1 x DIMM would solve it, which it didn't..

Nvlddmkm.sys Blue Screen After A Minute Or So Of Gameplay?

Sep 4, 2012

My recently purchased Laptop, a Lenovo IdeaPad v570 (1066CLU), has been having problems with the display driver. After a minute or so of gameplay using the NVIDIA driver, my audio starts to stutter for a few seconds, and finally, it blue screens with "Attempt to reset the display driver and recover from timeout failed", and something about nvlddmkm.sys. Sometimes the BSoD doesn't even show up. I tried downgrading to the Lenovo recommended driver from the latest build, but I'm still having the same issue. On some occasions, it doesn't BSoD, so I can alt-tab and see the message:"Display Driver stopped responding and has recovered".Even if games are running smoothly, they still have issues. One example is Team Fortress 2, but If I disable the NVIDIA driver in Device Manager, the Intel one works fine, with a worse framerate. Pretty weird. I have both the Intel HD Graphics 3000 and GeForce 525M driver versions supplied by the manufacturer (Lenovo).

Display Driver Nvlddmkm Stopped Responding

Dec 24, 2009

During the first 4 days of my new Windows 7 install I was getting constant "Display Driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has recovered" events (Event ID 4101 - Level 3 - Task 0 - 0x8000000000000). The best I can recall these events occurred when changing display settings. These events are occuring much less often now. The only instance in the past day or 2 was trying to start Autocad Lt 2010 (separate, bigger issue).

When I installed Windows 7 it loaded the 186.18 driver. That driver folder still exits in C:NVIDIADisplay Driver. I installed the latest nVidia driver - 195.62 - right after the motherboard drivers (second thing). The driver version in device manager is 8.17.11.9562. The option to roll back the driver is grayed out. There are no hardware conflicts.

Memtest and Prime95 tests are clean. I have 6GB of 1333 memory "overclocked" to 1333 in bios. This is because the i7-920 is a "fixed" processor and only defaults to 1066 memory.

Originally (day 1-2) the event occured when trying to switch to an aero theme. Today (day 5) I am using a modified aero theme and have no problems. Is it possible that Windows 7 applied a bug fix transparently?

I have researched and there are many possible solutions offered. The most common is to to re-expand the nvlddmkm.sys file in System32. What do you folks here think/suggest I do?

Display Driver Nvlddmkm Stopped Responding And Has Recovered

Nov 26, 2009

For people having the "Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has recovered" problem and the following Kernal-Power BSOD, try using a VGA cable to connect your monitor to the graphics card instead of a DVI cable. This worked for me for some reason, and I had no problems for over a week.

DVI is better than VGA ("DVI eliminates the analog conversion process and

improves the connection between source and display"), but I dont see any difference tbh. It doesn't slow down anything (for me). Don't know if this fixes the problem for all people. Let me know please

Display Driver Nvlddmkm Stopped Responding And Successfully Recovered

May 28, 2011

I have come across the message (from a video card failure) that says "Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered." The solution is to do all of the following steps:

1. Uninstall all video drivers
2. Update your drivers to the latest version
3. Update your bios
4. Try different PCIe/PCI/AGP slots on your motherboard
5. Try different power rails coming from your power supply - make sure your power supply can support your graphics card.
6. Update your version of Direct X
7. Update your chipset drivers
8. Go to your video card settings>advanced settings> and set everything to application controlled
9. Go to your video card settings>advanced manage 3D settings> and turn off vertical sync
10. make sure your card is not overheating
11. Memory can sometimes cause video problems, run a memtest
12.Check out these posts Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding - Info about TDR and other info [URL]

Set 9 is what fixed my problem. If none of this works reinstall your OS and try all these steps again.

Windows 7 Wont Complete Install Restarts Install Or Bsod?

Sep 7, 2012

First off this is a newly built computer, all fresh components. aftercleaning/activating the hdd via shift +f10 at Windows 7 setup,(which took me a day to figure out) i was very excited to see my hdd available for Windows 7 installation. as i proceed windows does its thing, after installing its time for the first restart. it restarts right back to the initial windows 7 setup ive done a lot of research, and majority of the problems seem to be the boot priority in bios. so i made sure that it was usb-hdd, then hard drive. (Windows 7 on flash drive for me, no dvd burner available). still the same thing, right back to initial setup. i tried maybe to remove the flash drive during the 10 second countdown to restart, but when it restarts, the windows splash screen comes up and then blue screens and restarts real quick. cant see what the error is on bsodthere have been a couple different start up issues, "windows did not start properly" "select version of windows to start from" (or something to that effect.) but its all the same outcome. windows 7 just wont finish installation

BSOD With Install Of Intel Graphics Driver Or Install Of Graphics Card

Jul 19, 2012

I've completed a new custom build, but have had problems with BSOD from the beginning with any installation of Intel Graphics drivers or the installation of any graphics card.

When I first completed the build, the XFX-7950 Black was installed. I booted to BIOS without issue, but when I inserted the Windows 7 (64 bit) it would boot through the windows logo screen but immediately BSOD right after going to the first install screen.

I removed the graphics card, and was able to complete the full Windows install without issue. I updated Windows and the drivers on the system but as soon as I installed the Intel 3000 Graphics driver, it would BSOD on every restart. I recovered back prior to the Graphics driver install and installed all other drivers. I updated the BIOS to the latest version.

I have reattempted the XFX 7950 multiple times in different slots, but with the same results. I also attempted my Radeon HD 4550 from my old computer but it gave the same results. It always boots through the Windows logo screen, but BSOD within a few seconds of reaching the password screen.

I broke down and installed Driver Whiz, which did detect multiple outdated drivers that I had not caught, but none of these fix the issues.

I've attached the requested zip. I don't think all BSOD's are showing up, as I've had to use recovery points after installed drivers didn't work. The last .dmp on 19 JUL was a Intel Graphics driver install attempt that I pulled off in safe mode before recovering back to the pre-driver point.

System:
ASUS P8Z68-V Pro/GEN 3
Intel 2600K
XFX R7950 Black Edition
OCZ 850W
Crucial 128 GB SSD
Seagate Barracuda 1 TB HD
