AMD HD Radeon 6870 Crossfire Causes BSOD

Dec 18, 2011

I just recently bought another card to xfire for my rig. Since ive done this however my games randomly freeze or bsod, or freeze with a loud buzz until i shut my rig down.. i think its a driver issue, because it used to do it when i had 1 card and i bumped it down to like 11.10 and everything worked fine.. but when i got the new card, apparently 11.10 didnt support xfire.. so i had to update to 11.12.

BSOD When Computer Is Idle. No BSOD When Playing Games For Hours?

Jul 3, 2012

I started getting BSOD two weeks ago. As far as I can remember the first time I had a BSOD was on the day I installed Max Payne 3 (I read somewhere that the some guy had also this problem when he installed max payne). There were two occasions that I got a BSOD upon starting Max Payne 3. But lately I'm getting BSOD when doing low-load stuffs like browsing with no other apps opened. I've already done memtest with 10 passes with no errors. I'm 24 hours prime95 stable. I just don't get it! I've manually set my timings for my ram. I'm not doing any overclock. Everything is on stock settings.

To Crossfire 2 6970s Or Go For 7970 Is Better

Jan 17, 2012

Generaly i know PCIe3 is supposed to be an all around bug fix to pcie 2 however, i already have a 6970 and dk how to afford a 7970 at this time, would 2 6970s (i already have 1, add another) costing me around 250-350, ultimately running post cross fire at 4 gb going to be more ore less powerful than a 7970.

Will My Motherboard Support Crossfire ?

Dec 6, 2009

I have an Asus M4A785TV-V Evo motherboard. It has an integrated Hd 4200, but that is not used. It also has two PCIex16 slots, one of which has my HD5770 in.

If I get a second HD 5770 and put it in the other PCIe x16 slot, will I be able to run Crossfire?

The motherboard manual says that it supports Hybrid Crossfire between dedicated and integrated cards, but nothing about Crossfire between two dedicated cards.

If it doesn't support crossfire, can I still put a second graphics card in and use it in the same way?

Windows 7 Slow Startup After Crossfire?

Jan 30, 2012

I've been having longer then normal windows load time after getting my second 6950 in my comp. I noticed that it starts up then goes into black screen with cursor then takes another 5 seconds to completely load into windows. Im thinking its something to do with adding another video card as i haven't experienced this before adding it.

My Windows is installed on my Intel 320 80 GB SSD. Game performance stays the same. just the load up time for windows has slowed down a lot and there's always a black screen with the cursor before it fully loads in now. I have the latest CAT

BSOD When Playing D3

Jul 27, 2012

I get blue screens ONLY when I Play D3, I can play it but at random times it crashes 15min-2h usually. I have re-installed D3, tried different drivers and lots of other simple stuff like memtest etc. But cant seem to get it right. About PC, I've built it myself and it has been doing this since I started playing D3. Other game I have played is Wolf Team and its not crashing. One thing I have noticed from forums is that my TP-Link Usb router have caused problems also. Its hot as cup of coffee when in use, and I already contacted TP-link about it. Just to know is that normal. This error I can find from Event Viewer. ALWAYS there when I get BSOD. So could be the reason but no idea how to fix.

Black Screen And Cursor - Crossfire W/ ATI 5970

Dec 27, 2009

I just built a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate (RTM x64) and have the system running great with one ATI 5970 video card. Upon adding a second card (in the correct x16 slot per my MB manual), rebooting shows the "starting windows" screen, proceeds past this to a black screen with a movable mouse cursor (occasionally I get an hour glass for a moment and then back to cursor).

Here's what I've tried to troubleshoot:

- Combed through the Seven Forums and couldn't find a similar issue

- Ensured BIOS was latest and chipset drivers were installed (MB = MSI x58 Eclipse SLI)

- Tried with and without the Crossfire interconnect

- Tried the new ATI hotfix drivers

- Tried Win 7 Startup Repair - no luck

- Let the machine sit overnight to see if it would eventually come up to Windows - no luck

- Tried safe mode and the machine displayed same behavior

- Removed original card to make sure card was seated in the slot correctly and power was properly connected (I have a 1KW power supply). Removing the original card, the machine booted fine on card #2.

- Removed all other cards (only other was an XiFi card) - and with two cards in, same behavior

- With one card in, uninstalled the ATI drivers, rebooted into Safe Mode and ran Guru 3D Driver Sweeper (in Admin mode) and removed any other residual driver stuff. Rebooted to ensure it was all gone (it was), and inserted card #2, same behavior

I can get it to boot to DOS boot and it passes BIOS fine - so I think it's a Windows issue or a hardware resources issue - just can't tell what it is hanging on...

MSI Afterburner Crossfire Fan Speed Control Issues

Jun 20, 2012

Hey people, I am having some trouble with MSI Afterburner and its fan speed control function. I have a custom curve setup and I have it where it synchronizes both GPUs in settings and it works great when I first boot and play a game for a while but then when I let it sit and go on the internet for 10 mins or so or put comp to sleep then come back, the custom curve only applies to the main GPU, and nothing that you do in Afterburner will change the second fan speed. I tried restarting the program, putting it on manual control, changing the curve and re applying it, but nothing seems to work on the second GPU fan speed until I reboot the whole computer again.

My specs if needed:
Crossfire XFX HD 6970s
Intel Core i7 3770
ASUS P8Z77-V Mobo
16GB Ripjaws 1600MHz
1100W ABS Majesty PSU
Windows 7 64-bit

P.S. I have already tried disabling that ULPS thing in registries, which did not work.

BSOD Mostly When Playing A Game?

Nov 23, 2011

Often, when I start up a game, it decides to crash my whole system resulting in a blue screen. Do note, however, that it has also crashed when not in a game, but only once or twice. My first thought was the ram, as it was and is giving a lot of memory errors, so I ran memtest for over 10 hours with no failures. My next thought was the CPU, so I ran prime 95 on blend and small ftt tests for over 8 hours which also proved to be stable. Next was the HDD, and I did everything from examining the SMART info to a long generic test. GPU was my last hope, but Furmark doesn't phase the card, and I even ran MemtestG80 which supposedly tests the GPUs memory as well. I do realize these tests are not the end all, and there could be a problem with any one of them that the tests didn't find. I have also reinstalled Windows Something curious happened when I ran memtest the other day. I had one stick in and left the room for a few minutes, only to come back to 7k+ errors. This was it I thought, I finally found out what was causing it. I wanted to test it again to make sure it wasn't a bug in the software, but it ran for 8 hours with no errors. So I'm lead to believe it's the ram, motherboard, memory cache, or psu. I am leaning away from the psu based on the fact that I get lucky and am able to play Skyrim on Ultra with no issue.I have attached several recent minidumps for anyone who is able to understand such things.

BSOD When Playing Games

Jan 30, 2012

I never get the bluescreen doing anything but playing games and it's not often but it happens about twice a week. It crashes and WhoCrashed or Bluescreen view always points to ntoskrnl.exe or ntkrnlmp.exe or hal.dll it's always two of those 3. Other than games it runs fine. I did all the memory tests for 3 days and tried the best I could re-seat stuff. It's an alienware so they have it all secured in a way that makes it difficult to get around, and the case weighs around 105 lbs or something crazy.

I always seem to get a "BF3.exe has stopped working" message during everygame, and the game crashes. I have re-installed everything so that did not work. I've done a little research and this seems to be a reacurring issue with a lot of people and seemed to happen after the first patch came out for the game.I've ran an analysis on the dump files and it seems to be a "ntoskrnl.exe" file that seems to be cuasing the BSOD's.
