A new nit-picky OCD question for all you geniuses. Is it possible to add a custom item to the right part of the start menu, one that isn't a default option when using the standard customize menu? Specifically, I'd love to add the Network Connections control panel to that pane, but, I don't see how.
When I pin a shortcut to the Start menu (from the installation directory in Explorer) and try to abbreviate the name, a figure in parentheses "(2)" appears after the name. The message that "There is already a file with the same name in this location." Technically, however, this is not true. For example, "Audacity.exe" is not "Audacity (2)." I have configured my system to show all files.
I looked in the app's installation directory and also in the subfolders, under All Users's and also under my usernameAppDataRoaming, etc.
You know the right side of the Start Menu, it has links such as User, Documents, Pictures, Music, Games, Computer, ect... I would like to add a custom link to that side of the Start Menu. Let's say I have a folder on "D:" called E-Books and I would like it to be displayed as a link on the right hand side of the Start Menu.
In Windows XP and earlier, I could paste a folder into the Start Menu folder, and when I opened start menu, I would get an expandable folder right alongside Programs. I'd like to know how I can do that in Windows 7. I have a folder in which I put shortcuts to documents I use often. I could pin it to the Start Menu, but when clicking on it, it opens an explorer window with the shortcuts. I want to have an expandable menu like the Start Menu. I was able to do this in XP just by pasting that folder inside the Start Menu folder but that doesn't seem to work in Windows 7.
I recently created a library to contain the video media I either create or download. I would like to add it to the right side of the Start menu where Pictures, Documents and Music already reside.
I can't use drag and drop to an open Start menu because as soon as I click the mouse on amything, the Start menu disappears. (Win 7 HP, 64 bit)

"The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log or use the command-line sxstrace.exe tool for more detail." First of all, I've gotten this on at least 3 different programs. Everyone who's written about this seems to think it's related to their specific program...it's not! Secondly, what I find here in the forum on the subject tells me there has been no solution...also am unable to find any on the 'net'. I think it acts like a virus and is spreading...What's up with this??? Does anyone know...? It has kept me from opening iTunes so I can't work with my iPad anymore. Certainly there must be someone knowledgeable enough to know what this is and what to do about it...right?:

I have Folder Options "Double-click to open an item (single-click to select)" is engaged but Start menu All Programs list is failing to accord - selecting on hover and opening on single click.
I was hoping to be able to create a folder and be able add it to the Start Menu "Right Pane"( like documents folder, Music folder, etc.) The only things I've that I've found online is adding new folders to the start menus "All Programs" Tab. Is there any way of adding a created folder and linking it to the "Right Pane" menu?
How to create a context menu item. I would like to select a few files, right click and have a menu option to run a program. The program need to receive the files or folder selected as arguments.
I want some thing that allows me to add items to the right side of the start menu. When I say right side, I mean along with the Pictures, Documents, Downloads, etc.. Also it has to lead to something.
I recently tried to install Linux Ubuntu but it didin't work well. So I deleted all the partitions and made a clean windows 7 install. Everything works just fine. Before the windows installation there was a weird bootloader starts at first. Here's the picture. After I installed windows I looked at my bios settings and in the boot menu I still had Ubuntu. I used recovery cd and did a console command which is "bootsect /nt60 all". But it is still there. How can I delete this without doing any formatting, reinstalling.
I have like, a bookmark or, a link? or an item that i want to remove from mt StartNow toolbar. i don't want to remove the whole tooldbar, i just want to remove one of the links(or bookmarks or favorites or items, whatever you want to call it.) because i don't use the website at all.
I have a mounted .iso image file using DVDFab.I am able to play the file by going to my computer then right clicking on the mounted drive & choosing media player from the autoplay popup window to play it.But I want to use powerdvd to read the file and I am unable to do so because it doesn't recognize the image folder as a source. Is there a way I could add the cyberlink powerdvd to the autorun popup window where we can find listed windows media player, media player classic etc... I don't need to go to "view more autoplay options" and choose powerdvd inside, this is not helping in any way?
I am running Win 7/SP1. I have a Sony Blu-Ray Burner BWU-500S. When I right click on the drive I no longer have a format option in the context menu. Does anyone know how I can restore/recreate the format item? I just recently did a clean install of Win 7 & have been in the process of reloading all my software. Everything concerning my drive was just fine, but somwhere something has gotten corrupted. I am not running any particular DVD burning software either.
This has been happening since the release of SP1 for Windows 7. I don't know if it is exactly that update, but it is one of them that causes a blockage of software adding menus to your context menu. The software that I'm having issues with is PowerISO and Unlocker.
This is a pain in the ass because now I have to restore to before SP1 was installed and it takes forever to reinstall SP1 with updates.
I have installed all Microsoft Visual C++ 20XX Redistributable Packages and Microsoft Visual C++ 20XX Redistributable Package SP1 downloads.
I know that the full version can be achieved while holding the shift key, but is there way to bypass that and have the regular full sized menu by default?
I downloaded and installed Ubuntu and sectioned off a part of my hard drive for it. I intended to have it set up to run both windows 7 and linux together and let me choose which boot disk I wanted to use at start up. Ubuntu took over and so I read through some forums online. I can now get to the Windows 7 loading screen but it freezes there. I have my install disc and was hoping someone could assist me with getting windows 7 back. I do not care if I loose Ubuntu. I am currently sitting with the Administrator: X:windowssystem32cmd.exe from the System Recovery Options Menu with my Windows 7 Disc in the tray.
I've tried nearly everything possible. I've tried a sfc /scannow (CBD log is below), I just ran a chkdsk.exe, reinstalled Visual C++ and nothing has fixed it. I've also tried reinstalling the program. What else can I do? I cannot use a Windows Installer Disk as I don't have one as the company installed Windows for me and I never got a disk.I also don't have a CD large enough to put the .iso on it. I made a Windows Repair Disk but I can't seem to be able to boot from it, my BIOS is that of a Gygabite 990x Mobo.
I want to view multiple windows side by side across the screen, and it kind of works, with a few issues. The first is that it never includes the window in which I am running Firefox, it will arrange every other window side by side and leave the browser window open at the original size across the whole lot. The second is I can't work out a way to say view windows side by side but exclude some - I want to snap my browser windows and a couple of other things which receive regular updates to the best possible use of the screen, but ignore windows running utilities, email, etc. Is there a way to say place some windows side by side without having to shut down and reopen the ones I'm not interested in viewing on side by side?
The third is, is there any way to specify the order in which I want it to display the windows? I get them in all kinds of random orders and even if I drag them around to be almost exactly where I want them, if I use the "side by side" they jump into different orders - I want Firefox to the left, IE to the right (they fulfil different view functions for me) and the other program in the middle. There seems to be no way for me to tell the system I want them lined up like that. Will I have to line things up on the screen manually if I want them like that? It's not always the same programs so I don't want to start incorporating commands to force them to run in certain sizes and locations.
I got a passive 3D monitor for Xmas and whilst the sales are on i want to get some good games that can make the most out of it.What games output either Side by Side/top and bottom or Interlaced 3D? Ive looked in the settings of a few recent games, some of them mention 3d but turning it on still outputs a 2D picture to the screen..
I have two texts which are the same only in two languages.I'd like to create a document that will show the texts side by side.Is there a way to do that in Office or in another environmentCurrently, the texts are in PDF format, but I could convert them to any format that will enable me to do the side-by-side merging of the documents.
