Is it possible to install a software application (cookbook program) on one win-7 pc, then access / run this program from a different win-7 pc?

I have two HP desktops running Windows 7. One is connected by wire to my router because the router is right near that PC. The other PC is downstairs and connected wirelessly. There is also a Mac downstairs, connected by wire. We also have an internet TV, Playstation 3, smart phones and tablets. All of these last items connect wirelessly to the network without problems. The HP PC downstairs can see and access my PC upstairs, as well as all my external drives, media server etc. I can see and access the Mac. I do see the other HP PC in my network folder, but when I try to access it, it won't work.I have discovery turned on on both. Strange thing is that sometimes, it works. But only now and then, and there doesn't seem to be any reason to this.
I thought that maybe mixing wired and wireless devices could be a problem, but all the other devices are fine. Also, I forgot that I sometimes use my Vista laptop, and that connects fine to other devices. It's only that one PC downstairs that I can't access. Is there a way to remove it from the network folder and maybe have windows 'find' it again?

all went wrong this morning on the Windows 7 desktop the network see's the xp lappy but refuses access see administrator. been trying all day and got nowhere.
I currently run windows 7 home premium on both my PC and laptop (64bit). I wish to remotely access the PC from the laptop via the home network. As home premium does not support this should I upgrade to windows 7 professional to get6 this facility or purchase seperate software?

I cannot change any of the parameters of the network at all. Under XP on the same network I have no problems at all.I have set up three access points by simply adding additional wireless modems (of the same brand as the primary modem), turning off DCHP and U PnP and assigning a unique IP address, to avoid DCHP conflicts (as I understood it).Which change would I have to make to the access points such that Windows 7 fully recognises each access point and allow me to assign them to type "Home"?
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy wife has a home based photography business. Her studio is located on our property. Currently her network consists of her PC, a Motorola DSL Modem/Router from ATT and an external USB HD.
She would like to be able to access her photos that are at her studio from home, say on a laptop but I am unsure the best method for this. She needs to be able to access these images in such a way that she can post-process them in program such as Photoshop at home, and then save the image so that it updates that file in her studio when shes completed the post editing. So, basically it's like being able to edit images in 2 places while keeping the original files and the saved processed images in one central location.
I don't know if this means NAS, something in the cloud, or simply remote accessing the PC through Windows. Or perhaps some other method that I don't know about.
I consider myself to be decently informed when it comes to computer stuff but I want to get this right the first time around so I figured it best to gain insight from those who are more skilled than I before moving forward.
Until recently I ran windows xp. I shared a built in wall Ethernet jack with another desktop. I used my router (Linksys Befsr41) as a switch by disabling dhcp and connecting the wall ethernet and the two computers to the Lan ports on the router. The other desktop until recently was also running windows xp, but was upgraded and is now an apple imac running os x lion. My internet briefly stopped working but I was able to reset my router and get my internet running again. I then needed to reformat my build and installed windows 7 ultimate 32 bit. I cant quite pinpoint my problem. If I connect straight to the wall ethernet jack i have internet access. However if i use my router as a switch to get internet for both my pc and the apple imac, I will not have internet access. Sometimes the internet does indeed come back on in this circumstance, only to get disconnected again shortly. I am not sure who to blame because the router worked fine when spliiting ethernet for xp machines, and I have internet access when running straight from the wall to my pc
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have recently been having difficulties with connecting with my wireless connection. We have a in-home router that is connected to two computer's downstairs by cable. I however own a Acer, Windows 7 laptop that I mainly use upstairs and I get a Excellent signal strength.I have connected to my Home wireless connection before with no problem but recently the connection keeps coming up as ~Identifying... No Internet Access.Also when I have had connection to this network prior to this problem the connection is under Home. But when I try to connect to the same network it comes up as Public or just keeps Identifying. I have the connection set to Connect Automatically.Also the yellow triangle with the exclamation point almost always pops up immediately when I reboot my system or after I Disconnect and Connect the network again. I have tried Disabling and Enabling the network in the adapter settings and this does not work either. In the manage wireless networks tab, I have repeatedly deleted the connection and reentered the security password and again put it as automatically connect but it still comes up as Identifying. I have seen many people with this same problem and have tried many of the suggestions to no avail.It is rather bizarre because my connection will be in this Identifying state for a while and randomly connect properly and I have no idea what makes it go off and on so erratically. I just had it working again for a few days and it is again acting up.

View 2 Replies View RelatedPrinter plugged into Win7 box - how to print from remote XP machine? describes an original difficulty I had getting remote computers (laptops and desktops) to print to a USB printer connected to my Windows 7 box. Read far enough and you'll see that I solved that problem using Networking issue - Win7 printer, XP remote machines.Fast forward 13 or so months. Since that time I have replaced the printer, I've had a motherboard and processor issue with my box (since fixed), and no interruption of things working as they should. My printer - Canon ip4800 series - is USB hardwired to my Windows 7 computer, and the other home computers - two Windows 7 laptops, an XP box, and an XP netbook - can print to the printer, and view files on my Windows 7 machine, over our wireless home network. And that's been constant through the changes described.
Then yesterday, for no known reason, my daughter's Windows 7 laptop stopped being able to print. She'd send jobs to the correct printer, but they'd just queue up, with the queue visible from her machine, but not when I looked at the printer from my machine (that is looking at the print queue from her machine shows the jobs, but looking at it from mine shows no jobs).Nothing I did would result in stuff from her machine, from any application, to go to the printer.I finally deleted the printer from her machine, figuring I'd just add it back.I try adding a printer to the laptop, it doesn't find the printer on the list of available printers. When I try adding it by typing the name - \mywin7canon ip4800 series - that fails.When I look at "network" from her laptop, my computer shows up, but if I click on it, Windows says it can't connect.
When I type ping her_computer from a DOS box, it can't find it - but when I type ping any_other_computer it finds those.Her laptop can get on the internet from our home wireless network. All the other computers in the house - Windows 7 and XP - can access shared files on my PC, and more importantly, print across the network to my USB printer.Please, patiently and precisely, guide me through stuff to check on my PC and her laptop, to get this working again. I've been through the network and sharing center on my PC and the settings are correct.Again, as it is right now, my printer is not defined on her laptop.Final, cro-magnon- level question here: If I did a system restore on her laptop, back to a point when it had been able to print, might that fix things?
Is it possible with the non-Windows 7 machine's shares set to something besides "guest access allowed"? I've tried a few tweaks on my Windows 7 desktop and my Kubuntu 11.04 Linux-running laptop. Nothing has worked. Unless access to a shared directory is set to guest on the laptop, the Windows box keeps asking for a legitimate password, whenever I attempt to 'open' them.
Both machines have the same log-in strings for both basic log-on and Samba. Or do they? I'm presuming there's no separate logon/password required for Windows 7 Home Premium when it comes to file sharing, but as a late Windows XP Professional user (both SP2 and SP3), I'm not taking anything wholly for granted. Any Windows build since the dawn of XP that installs without gpedit.msc is bound to be lacking in other ways, imco.
5 month old Dell XPS 8500 Win 7 64 bit Pro as main computer connected by Wired Adapter, Upgraded Gateway 5632E also running Win 7 64 bit pro as second connected by Wireless. Both running Kapersky successfully. no network problems for 5 mo.
Both were successfully linked using homegroup. Had to take Gateway to a remote location to do a business demo. While there had to link to a local public WiFi. While connecting made mistake and left homegroup.
When Gateway returned to homebase a few days later it was fine, had no problems finding wireless but could not see or rejoin Dell machine homegroup. It would let me set up a new homegroup.
Went to Dell box and found 1) homegroup no longer existed, 2) router and network and wireless printing no longer found - Red X on the taskbar) even though internet was still working fine.
Took nearly a week of trying differernt fixes, on adapter- off adapter- different adapter reboot network, router, even updated router firmware (Yes I went through every ipconfig reset, renew, redecorate etc. I've used netsh functions to try to get evrything to reset. Changes services.msc settings per other posts. Finally in desperation, deleted every sub key in the registry related to network locational awareness and got the Dell to find the network, let me set it up as a "home" network and then even see the invitation to join the Gateway's homegroup.
Then I hit a wall- when I try to join- Win 7 says I can't join the homegroup because the network is not a "home network". Of course troubleshooting is useless and goes into an endless loop. Have searched in desperation for any way to make Win 7 return to a clean slate so it can sense that it really is on a home network without success. Applied the fix-it and hotpatch for when Win 7 gets stuck in public mode. No joy. Deleted the hide wizard subkey as suggested elsewhere. No Joy. Gut feeling says problem must lie in the NLA or peer networking somewhere but where?
Does anyone know of a method or set of steps (short of a clean reinstall of Win 7) to completely clear every thing the OS knows about my network and force it to acknowlege my network is a home network? Is there a registry hack that will clear the problem?
I know I could abandon the homegroup and do conventional file/print share but I am concerned that using that solution won't last as whatever is screwing up the homegroup could eventually screw regular sharing and then I'm back to reformating/reinstalling. I'm just about ready to join the Apple folks so I never have to work on Windows again.
My OS is Windows 7 Home premium 64 bit. I have downloaded and have CD of 'WEAPON FOR FSX'. Installation can be achieved by either method. This add-on is implimented by opening the file 'LOADER.exe'. This file I cannot open and the reason is given as --INCOMPATABLE APPLICAFION DETECTED'. Trying Recommended settings ,also Troubleshoot Gives negative results.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm reimaging one of my home systems that I intend to use as a "sterile" system (I will visit very a very limited selection sites on it, such as banking sites). I'm considering establishing the network location as "Public" instead of "Home", rationale being this would help prevent cross infection from other computers on my home network if they get a worm or virus. I do have friends that come over and hop on my network sometimes and who knows what contamination their systems have. Is this being overly paranoid? Will it cause annoying problems for this sterile system or other systems in my home network? I don't intend to share anything on this system with other computers on my home network. Seems to me that this ought to be the recommended setting for any computer always ... you can always share files using a USB drive if you really need to. Thoughts? Again maybe I am being overly paranoid. Back in the day there used to be worms that would look for ways to hop from system to system over the network, maybe that's much much harder these days. I do have a router between the DSL modem and my home network and I do run Norton Internet Security on all my systems?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm having difficulty trying to get my new Windows 7 pc set up to share files across my existing home (wired) network which consists of 1 desktop pc running WinXP and 1 laptop running WinXP.I want the 'C' drive on each of the 3 computers to be shared. I've had the 2 Windows XP computers set up and working like this for several years without a problem but I can't seem to get the 'C' drive on the Windows 7 computer to do the same.All 3 computers have the same workgroup name and none of them require passwords to log on to Windows. There are no problems with the firewalls on any of the machines.On the Windows 7 PC when I right click on the 'C' drive and select the 'Sharing' tab, I have set this up to be shared and when I click on the 'Advanced Sharing' button there is a tick in the 'Share this folder' box, the 'Share name' is 'C'. If I then click on the 'Permissions' button, this shows a 'Group or user name' 'Everyone' and this group has Full Control, Change and Read boxes ticked. As far as I can see there is nothing more I can do.
However from my Windows XP computer, when I go to My Network Places and double click on the icon for the Windows 7 'C' drive, I get the message "\Computername is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.The network path was not found"I've subsequently set up a sub folder (of the Windows 7 'C' drive) for sharing by right clicking on the folder, choosing 'Share with' and then selecting 'Specific people'. I then set up a group called 'Everyone' with read/write permissions. Now I can navigate to this folder from my 2 WinXP computers.
Unable to see home network computers in Windows Explorer Network screen.
I have a home network with 2 laptops and 1 desktop. The desktop I use as a "file server" in that all work done on the laptops is stored to the desktop. The desktop computer name is HAL. One laptop is fine and sees the network. The other just stopped seeing it; rebooted the laptop; rebooted HAL; did a number of refreshes without any luck. I opened EXCEL and found a worksheet that was listed that I knew was saved on HAL. Was able to open the file and when I tried the SAVE AS I could navigate through all of HAL just as normal. Went to Windows Explorer and still no HAL listed as a COMPUTER on the NETWORK. I have a internet connection so I know I am making it to the router at least. And when I check NETWORK AND SHARING CENTER it shows an active home network. The laptop is running Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1 Build 7601.
Last night I was on the internet at home absolutely fine and my laptop automatically downloaded an update, since then I have been unable to connect to my wi-fi. I deleted the updates and was still unable to connect, so I tried to used a system recovery restore point and every one I use starts but fails to complete.So, I did a factory reset after around 8 hours of trying to sort it out today and I STILL have the same problem. I can plug in the cable to connect and my housemate is having absolutely no issues connecting and neither is my phone so now I am at a total loss what I should do to resolve this. Prior to the factory reset I was able to connect to the wi-fi but it was stating no network access/limited access and now it simply won't connect to my internet at all. It finds my full strength signal but will not connect.My drivers for the Broadcom 4313 802.11b/g/n card are the most up to date and the laptop (HP G62) says it is working fine.
View 2 Replies View RelatedHome network with Wifi and ethernet. Using 3x Notebooks and 3x workstations. One of the workstations (W7 ultimate) keeps changing between Public and Home. When this happens, the internet connection dies. I cannot see other workstations either when on public network. Workstation using wifi. Does the same on cable. When it changes to Public, it disconnects from the internet and I cannot get to the router even though it has the workstation has an IP(DHCP or static). Default gateway and subnet is correct. TCP v4 is being used and nothing else is enabled.
Why is this happening?
- I have tried DHCP as well as Static addresses
- Reconfigured NIC(Netgear WG311T), uninstalled and reinstalled it.
- Removed Wifi connection and re-added it.
- Changed auth type, encryption type and keys to connection
Have I covered everything? The only thing different is that I installed a new router - Duo Plus 300wr. It cannot be the router because all the other notebooks connect to it wireless and so does my iPad, Android device and tablet...so it rules that out?

If the printer is their default printer the application used to print will freeze/lockup until they log out / restart their machine. The only way to fix this (from my experience) is to set their default printer to something else (like Adobe PDF) or bypass the print server completely and do it by direct TCP/IP.

Also I've look at removing this from the services but its not running it when i go under task manager, unless it somewhere else.

Today, I managed to redecorate my bedroom; where my computer sat on top of a shaky, wooden desk. That desk is now gone, caput, and replaced by a much bigger, sturdier and prettier glass replacement.Before I dissasembled the computer to re-decorate, I was able to browse the internet at ease. There were no problems at all...However, after the new desk was setup - and all wires replaced in their correct slots, I find that I am unable to connect to the internet, or even the house's network! For the past year, I have been wired to the router using a RTL8168C(P)/8111C(P) Family PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC. It was plugged into an extension cord, in my room, into the Ethernet port in the back of my computer. Downstairs, it's twin was situated no less than 2 feet away from the router - plugged into the first port.Now, when I boot up the computer, the network notification presents the following message: "Unidentified Network. No network access", and sometimes presents a yellow ! next to it. So, I am reduced to typing on my mother's laptop - which has no problems connecting to the network.I am able to use the ipconfig /release command, but unable to use the /renew - it hangs in the command prompt, then tells me that the DHCP server cannot be located. The IP, beforehand, was reverted to 169.254.223.117 - before all of this, I was 192.168.0.5?
View 2 Replies View Relatedi noticed that when i open my task manager sometimes just randomly windows media player network sharing service configuration application runs, but not only 1 there is 5-6 of them all taking about the same amount.I tried looking online for tutorials i tried disabling it in registry in the processes tab but nothing would work. I am running a small home network with 2 pc one on windows 7 and one on xp but the funny thing is that even if the second one is off this process starts by itself.I am running Windows 7 Professional x64, Windows media player 12?

I have MOYELA FLV editor installed. I downloaded, edited & merged two '.FLV ' files, since one song was split and continued in separate files on the host site. The edited file is not playing on VLC player. But it plays well on MOYELA FLV PLAYER. So, if I change the APPLICATION to Moyela player for this edited file in 'PROPERTIES', all other files are also automatically changing to Moyela from default 'VLC'.So also, if I change the application of one '.PDF' file to 'ADOBE READER', all other files are also changing from my default 'FOXIT READER' to 'ADOBE READER'. How to change the application for only some files keeping others to my default? I can open individually in the chosen application, but, then I have to make a note beside each file (in brackets with the name of the file) which application opens this file.

I have a desktop running Win 7 Home, a laptop running Win 7 Pro and my media machine running Win 7 Home. I would really like to access my media machine running Win 7 Home remotely on my LAN from my desktop machine also running Win 7 Home and i wanted to use RDP as it seems straight forward for what i need. I understand that it does not work when trying to remote access from a Home Premium machine to another one which is a real pain! I was wondering as i have full access with RDP on my Laptop running Win 7 Pro could i perhaps copy all the RDP files from the Pro version to my Home Premium version to allow full access to RDP on both my Home Premium machines?

Clicking Diagnose involks Windows Network Diagnostics. After several tests it reports Troubleshooting could not identify the problem
When I click on Network on my wife's Vista machine my ROYLEGGITT-PC does not appear on her list of network items. However, she does have a wireless adapter and several local users appear. If I click on any of them, I get the exact same error message as above.
Anybody have an idea of how to fix this?
Looking for good solutions to allow me full access to my home PC while I am away from home.
Via Laptop.
