View 1 Replies View RelatedLately whenever I attempt to install a new application I get the "application has stopped working" error message. Has happened now with several different applications. Sometimes I get an installation error 1001. Does anyone know why this occurs? Do I have a corrupt system file or registry? I have tried several different registry cleaners to no avail.
View 5 Replies View RelatedShortly after installing a theme (I can not remember as I can't get into the file system) which is as far as I can see a perfectly legitimate theme (recommended by a user from overclock.net) explorer.exe hasn't worked. I installed it, it asked me to restart explorer.exe by pressing the button. I got the error that it could not start. Itrecommended that I restart the computer before all changes take place. I assumed that I had to restart the computer for Explorer.EXE to work. It did not. At startup, the following happened and now does every time I start it up: (A note, sorry for the low quality photo's, I'm letting someone using my DSLR as they're on holidays.)Everything goes seemingly normal in the BIOS.FYI, the debug code on the motherboard is AA so all is fine according to the debug code.Just before Windows logs me in (just after the Windows logo at boot) there is a blacks screen displayed for a significant amount of time. As I have an SSD, it shouldn't be there and it shouldn't take that long.
Before I get to the desktop, the following errors come up:his is what the desktop looks at login. Firstly, there is not start menu - which means no explorer.exe. Secondly, why has this application started up? Nothing else seems to be able to but this application however manages to. Is it because it uses it's own UI? Nothing else seems to startup. Hmm.I press ctrl+alt+delete and the following comes up as usual: I click "start task manager" and the following error comes up then decided to start the computer up in safe mode.Same errors as before: This is what the desktop looks like, no start menu there:I press ctrl+alt+delete and the normal ctrl+alt+delete screen comes up. Same taskmanager error as earlier.I next boot into safe mode with command prompt. This time only this error comes up: (that is, unless I missed the explorer.exe error or I subconsciously clicked the ok button which is a possibility)

View 1 Replies View RelatedOur office has an old program that we still need to use when upgrading our PC's to Windows 7. The program will run fine if you start a windows virtual PC and install and run it. However, based on the needs of our office, I need to be able to run Windows XP mode and simply have an icon for our users to click to take them to the application. If I install the program in windows XP mode, and then add a shortcut to the file under all users/start menu, a shortcut is placed in the appropriate place on the windows 7 machine and I can copy that shortcut ot the desktop. The program runs fine until you restart the computer. Once you restart the computer and double click the link on the windows 7 desktop to the program running in windows XP mode, it says:
Cannot start virtual application. The application is blocked from running as a virtual application.
I read some other posts saying to put a new shortcut in the all users/start menu folder. This works, but only until our users restart their computer. The next time the computer is up, the problem happens again. This is not an acceptable solution to have to create a new shortcut for each workstation each time the computer is restarted.
The error states:explorer.exe - application error The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000022). Click OK to close the application. When I click OK, i just have a black screen. I can get the task manager going by hitting control, alt, delete. I've tried to start explorer.exe from the file menu, but get the same error.

I am deathly afraid to turn off my computer because my brother recently did and that caused it to freeze at the blue HP startup screen, but thats another thread. I get this error whenever I launch anything. I can't even open up the task manager. I really need help. I don't currently have a way to back up my stuff either but I am working on it. By the way, I don't know that my brother was having the same error message as i was or if he was having any error messages. I use zone alarm full security suite if that helps at all, I don't know if it deleted a registry file or something.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI was just wondering if it is possible to reverse engineer a 32-bit application and recompile it as a 64-bit application. If so, would it still function?I don't know if talking about reverse engineering is acceptable in this forum or not. If not, my apologies. Also, I don't exactly know how "legal" it is or if it's against any EULAs.I'm a heavy browser user. I use Firefox Nightly and constantly have several tabs open. I also run several different applications at once and occasionally Skype. I'm CONSTANTLY hitting the 32-bit barrier for RAM (can't remember if it's 3.1, 3.2 or 3.3 GB) and I still have more RAM on my system. I'm thinking the video quality on Skype starts going south when I run low/out on addressable memory since it's a 32-bit application

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been having some BSOD probs, so I'm currently updating all of my drivers. The only one I can't find an update for is called PCI Standard Host CPU Bridge. Could you point me in the right direction, so I can get the update?
Also, for some reason, PCI Standard Host CPU Bridge is listed twice in Device Manager... and both entries seem identical. Would this mean I have to update both?
