Jul 9, 2012I want to format and 0 write and wipe the entire hard drive in an Asus EEEPC with no system disc and re-install windows 7 home premium. The windows registration number is on the back of the computer.
Did not come with a windows disc or recovery disc from the factory, IE windows 7 home pro was pre-installed.
I created a system recover boot disc/CD. This machine has no CD/DVD drive, but I do have a USB CD/DVD drive.
If I format and write the drive, but leave the partitions will I be able to re-install this version of windows that came with the machine ??
Disc ASUS Recovery Error 1029, Cannot Boot Into That Recovery Partition
Jun 23, 2012I've gotten to the point where I need to just reinstall windows completely on my Asus G74SX (too many problems, I want to start fresh.). I encounter an error 1029 with Asus's recovery disks that I made when I had windows working: it says it is recovering all the way to 100% then doesnt work. I am in the process of trying it again so I'll see if it actually managed to wipe my hard drive like it said it was doing, and maybe if it did actually work and reinstall windows.However, I'd like to be able to get into the recovery partition because I would prefer restoring it with Asus as they recommend me to. However, when I hit F9, their target to get there, it doesn't do anything and just reloads the boot screen, with the Asus logo on it. I don't have an actual Wndows recovery CD so that's not an option, and at this point since my hard drive has likely been wiped by these recovery DVDs, I don't think going into Ubuntu and fixing the MBR will do me much good anymore.It may be worth noting that before I last restarted, I marked the Windows partition as active because of a tutorial here, making it so that recovery partition isn't active anymore.

I'm having problems with it contecting to any networks it finds the networks and then I type in the secuirty code and then it keeps saying unable to connect to the network. Aug 6, 2009I've got an Asus M2N-MX motherboard without the optional S/PDIF connector. Under Vista Professional 64-bit I was able to plug my speakers into the line-out socket and get sound using the 64-bit driver from the Asus website. Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit assumes I've got the S/PDIF connected so I don't get sound from the Line-out socket. I've tried installing the Vista 64-bit drivers I used before but these don't seem to work, even in Compatibility Mode. What can I do to get the sound working again?

May 29, 2009When I installed Win 7 clean, everything was fine for a couple of days. Then I noticed I had lost support for the Tosiba HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T20L ATA which I used to install Windows. Now my CD doesn't even show up; trouble shooter says it can't install since the registry entry doesn't agree...huh???
I tried copying the cdrom.sys from my Vista 64 to Win 7 64 and tried to get it to use that, but no avail.
Anybody ever had this problem? I went back to my Vista 64 and the CD drive works fine.

Nov 4, 2009I tried searching for this issue or similar but it's an unusual one and difficult to search for so I'm hoping I've not overlooked a thread that contains the issue already.
Essentially I have the retail version of Windows 7 Home Premium and everything is fine until I install the Asus Xonar D2X drivers. I've tried at least 3 versions of the drivers that I could find online. The drivers themselves work and the software installs correctly, once installed the sound works and I get the Xonar control panel.
However, once those drivers are installed most of the applications I have, Firefox, Internet Explorer, MSN, Windows Update, etc etc stop functioning properly. In order to make them function I have to set them all to run as administrator giving the UAC prompt and also meaning that some plugins etc within the apps don't function properly.
I've managed to narrow it down to just the Xonar audio drivers through a process of elimination and system restores and it is 100% reproducible.
Curiously using my motherboard's supplied soundcard works perfectly so I'm using that as a temporary work around until I can find a resolution to the problem.
