View 2 Replies View RelatedLast week I've reinstalled my Windows 7 because my notebook was slow and I wanted to went back to the factory setting. I've picked my Seagate external HD (2TB) and moved everything I had into a folder called "[Acer]".
Well, I had some problems with external hard drives this year, I've lost many information from an external HD, and I found out that it was because I've connected this HD in a Macintosh. I really DON'T KNOW WHY, but every folder that I had opened in my Macintosh went CORRUPTED in Windows 7, with no chances to repair the files.
Since then, I haven't plugged my external hard drives into my Macintosh.
I don't know if it's a Windows 7 problem or a problem with my Seagate HD, but the quantity of issues that I had with this external HD since then was crazy. Every time I disconnected this HD and then connected again, Windows asked me to repair and scan the files. And the amount of time to scan everything was, like, one and a half hour... so it was bugging me a lot. But the real problem is: yesterday I've plugged my external HD and my backup folder (called "[Acer]" simply disappeared from the drive. I've tried to run "chkdsk E: /F", with no success.
Now I'm running a "chkdsk E: /R", and it will take me a lot of time, and I'm really not positive to recover my backup folder.
All the old folders are there, everything is fine, but this folder disappeared, only this folder (and everything that were inside of it) disappeared.
I've also tried Recuva (Recuva - Download) to recover my folder, but it haven't found it.
How can you recover a complete folder that has just disappeared from your pc?
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhile I was searching for something, my C:/users folder disappeared. So my desktop lost all its folders and some icons and shortcuts. And of course I had no 'Documents' folder, etc.I then discovered that I had no System Restore points (I've created some now).I finally managed to work out that somehow 'show hidden filles and folders' had been un-ticked.So I ticked that option, and now all the missing items are back - but they're all 'pale' and all the icons within those folders are 'pale' as well. What does this mean? I can open the files and folders.

View 6 Replies View RelatedMy cd/dvd/bluray read/write drive on my laptop suddenly disappeared. All "my Computer" shows is my C: drive, whereas I used to have a D: drive. I was uninstalling a few programs before it happened, one of which was Daemon ProTools, which I suspect to be the culprit.
I read that the program TestDisk might be able to help. I ran it but only my hard drive shows up in the program too. When I insert a disk, I can hear the drive reading it, so I know it didn't become disconnected.
My system is: P5Q-E motherboard, Seagate Barracuda 1.5TB, Windows 7. I recently bought a 3TB Seagate Barracuda and it showed as a (approx)2048GB drive with (approx)768GB unallocated. I successfully created a drive with the large section but when I tried to do the same with the unallocated section (using MiniTool Partition Wizard) it reported 'bad disk' and now the whole 3TB disc has vanished. It doesn't show in Windows Explorer, Windows 7 Partition Manager (diskmgmt.msc), Partition Wizard, Seagate DiskWizard or in the BIOS.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently had much trouble with my computer and was reinstalling OS many times! XP and windows 7. When I was installing windows 7 there were 3 virtual drives one about 400 mb named windows reserved and 2 others each (300gb) the 3d one was backup. I formatted first 2 deleted partitions, made 1 partition formatted again and then installed windows. The 3d virtual hard drive backup disappeared with all my stuff. Now I just have Local disc C: which is 300 gb and nothing else. So I am missing 300gb virtual hard drive with my stuff, where did it go?

View 1 Replies View RelatedSo I bought a windows 7 netbook a few months ago, and within the first couple of weeks it caught a big virus and almost nothing in the computer was working anymore. So I panicked and since this was the only computer I had, I downloaded a copy of linux, put it on a bootable USB and installed Linux over windows 7. Then eventually I made another bootable USB for windows 7, and I put it in and it only showed one hard disk where it was possible to install windows, and it was the C drive with only 97 gigs of memory (the computer actually has 250 gigs). So I installed windows over linux and now Im wondering where is the rest of my hard drive?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have noticed that a number of videos in my archive have disappeared. It is not a high percentage of the videos, just one here and there. Diagnostics show nothing wrong with the storage drive, nor anything else that I can think of. At first I thought it must have been due to me accidentally deleting a file, or not really having saved it as I thought that I had, but I now know that is not the case. I'm accustomed to what usually happens when a file becomes corrupted, it just becomes unusable, but still remains visible to the file manager and other programs, but I'm wondering if it might totally disappear?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI tried to move my Music library, but instead of including the 'Music' folder in F: drive, I included the drive itself.I promptly included the 'Music' folder in F: and set it as the default location, then removed F: from the Music library locations.I've since deleted the 'Music' library twice and performed restarts for each attempt. None removed my F: drive from my 'Users' folder or removed the 'Locations' tab from the F: drive properties.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI installed Windows 7 on a clean hard drive with only one user account and password. After installing McAfee, the Windows password was not recognized, and all I could do was reinstall Windows and I did this without assigning a password. I could not solve the problem in Safe Mode. I see a folder called c:Windows.old, and the properties show it takes 15 gigabytes. I tried deleting this folder by putting a shortcut to explore.exe on the desktop and running as administrator, but it runs to a point and then says I don't have permission. I assume this folder exists because I had to reinstall Windows.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm not sure which section of the forum to post this. For some reason in Windows 7 RC1 (build 7100) I don't have the option to create a new folder in the root of one mapped domain network drive. What's weird is that with all of my other network drives I can, and I can make new folders in subfolders of the drive I'm having problems with. I just can't in the root of that one drive. The account I'm logged in with does have full control of the folder the drive maps to. I've checked with another member on our domain that is running the same RC1 and he doesn't have this problem.

2) iMAC PowerPC/OS X Leopard,
3) PC/Windows 7 32bit and
4) IOMEGA HOME MEDIA NETWORK HARD DRIVE (herein "NHD").
PERTINENT SYSTEM STATUS:The NHD contains 1) a "BACKUPS" folder with sub-folders containing scheduled & unscheduled backups and system images from both computers and 2) specific folders e.g. MOVIES.Upon attempting to open the "BACKUPS" folder on the NHD from the PC, a WINDOWS SECURITY panel opens 1) requesting a user name and NETWORK password to the NHD, 2) listing the PC name as a DOMAIN name and 3) a red "X" - Access Denied.
1) As User/Administrator, I have not set any "folder" security/passwords,
2) I can open, view, edit and delete any of the other folders on the NHD from the PC and can open, view, edit and delete ALL folders from the iMAC , 3) I have NO domain setup, only a WORK GROUP name, 4) Network access protection is OFF.
I got a new laptop at work, and the IT group performed the initial setup. Of course, they entered my name incorrectly. I am the "administrator" on this computer, and I made the correction. However, on the C: drive, under the C:Users folder, my misspelled name persists. I select then right-click, but I cannot change the folder name. I see that the "lock" symbol is displayed next to the folder name, so obviously, the folder is locked and that explains why I can't change the folder name. How do I change a folder's name under C:users?

An Hp file just appeared under my c drive. I think it was after combofix was run but not sure. I was going to delete it based on some people saying you can...but then I saw nvidia, driver, realtech speakers and things of the sort. Should I not delete it, or can I? Can I move it.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI followed the illustration in a previous posting for this subject, provided by Mike, and 'moved' my folders to D:. am confused to see that they are now in 2 locations - ie still on the C:. When I go to C: prompt and call up DIR for D: it tells me there are no files there, although I can see them in Explorer. Can I just delete the folders on the C: or am I going to cause a problem doing this (hidden system files within the folders???). Should I only delete the actual files?
