I am running a 4CoreDual-VSTA motherboard with the built in Sound-card. I just upgraded to Windows 7, and now I am having issues with only being able to get MONO sound out of speakers. Any BIOS upgrades I attempt to run from ASRock's site give an error and refuse to run.
Any ideas how to UPGRADE my BIOS and fix this sound issue?
I hvae a AS Rock 939NF4G-VSTA motherboard. Sound worked perfectly when I was running Windows XP. However since installing windows7 64Bit , my sound card won't work as windows won't recognise it. Have checked out the ASrock website for an update to the drivers but they don't have one. Probably want me to but a new motherboard which I don't need.
View 7 Replies View RelatedJust thought I would mention this as it is the second machine I have bolloxed now due to doing a bios upgrade.
A while ago I did a bios upgrade on a desktop machine and after doing it got a BSOD and windows would not boot. Had to format and do a fresh install to get over it.
This time round I did a bios upgrade on my laptop so that I could put a T9500 processor into it and got the same problem.
Bit of a pig this one though as I have 3 weeks of non backed up emails I will lose amongst other things.
It seems that if you do a bios upgrade windows 7 see's it as a different machine and just errors out without trying to load. There seems to be nothing you can do to recover from it.
Only option I have it to install another oppperating system on it and then see if I can downgrade bios. See if that will work.
Just be aware of this as not something that will show to often as not to common to have to upgrade bios. Hope this helps someone.
After my Z68 Extreme 4 Motherboard died and I had to take out the processor to RMA it, I started considering upgrading. My Core i5 2500k is on ebay and I was going to buy a Core i7 2600k. However, now I am looking towards the Ivy Bridge Processors coming out in the New Year. Apparently they will use the same socket (1155), but the motherboard will need a Bios update. If I don't have a processor until I get the new one, how will I be able to upgrade the chipset so that the new processor will work with the motherboard?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just did a clean install of 7 Ultimate 64 bit using an upgrade disk on my Dell Inspiron 1545. I had been running XP 32 bit service pack 3. Everything is working fine, except my cd/dvd burner does not appear in devices in the 7 interface, and neither does it appear in BIOS. I may have made a mistake by not using windows easytransfer--I selected the files I wanted to bring over manually with a flash drive. It have power and will open and close fine, if a little slowly but it might be my imagination.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded my bios yesterday, and now my computer reads all of my ram! Now things are acting kinda weird. When I first turn on the computer, is starts fine. Comes to the desktop screen fine. But then it kinda freezes for about two minutes. Can't do anything except open the task manager and play with the mouse. It won't even connect to the internet. Then when everything starts working again, it takes like 2 minutes literally for any web page to appear. I have checked with internet company twice, and both times they say there is no problem with the internet connection.

View 2 Replies View RelatedJust after I upgraded my BIOS, I enjoyed a constant black screen after the BIOS Screen, which said something like CTRL + ALT + DELETE to reboot. It was no longer detecting something. So I removed the second HD and I was able to boot windows.
During the next boot I did the trick to connect the hard drive to the mobo during the Windows loading screen. And the HD became recognized, I was able to use it normally. In the next boot I left the hard rive connected and it wasn't detected by BIOS or Windows. I tried several cable combinations to see if there's a faulty one but no avail.
The weird part is that this drive does not emit any particular sound and most of faulty drives make noises. Another strange thing is that with the power supply connected the hard drive gets hot, really hot, like it's doing something...
Maybe I should downgrade the BIOS if I can. What do you think?
MOBO: Asrock 4g1m VS3.
PSU: 600W generic.

I've got an Acer Model As5742 Laptop with an i5 480M processor and 8 GB of good Ram. I'm running Win 7 Pro 64 Bit. It's only about 5 months old and this started about a month ago. I have no other problems. IE: Blue Screens or Lockups or anything, just the Bios clock changes to a random date and time after every restart. I replaced the Bios battery twice and it only effects the chore of having to reset the time in Windows every time I boot.
I'm going to send it to Acer to be repaired within a week or two, but maybe it's not a bad timing mechanism in the motherboard and one of you people have a correct solution to it. Which will save me the trouble of sending it in for a motherboard replacement.
I do have all the drivers and bios updates installed. Oh yes I've ran about 15 different virus Etc. Malware scans with several different products and they all come back clean. I ran System File Checker SFC /scannow from the command prompt several times that also comes back OK.
so i did a bios update, and it wont boot after the update.its a asus m4a79xtd evo (rev 1.01g)i dont have a backup of the bios

I understand that Vista must be installed and activated for the upgrade to work. Attempts to install Vista with Win 7 RC running or booting from the Vista disc lead to error code 0x80070103, insufficient free space. My HDD has > 450 Gb free space in 2 partitions. Do I need to reformat the HDD in order to install Vista over Win 7?

It's a new HP DV6 that had Vista pre-installed on it.
I've taken a look at it, and there's a "Windows.old" folder on the root of C:, which is of course a back up of all his data.
There's also a batch file inside the folder with the following inside of it:
"REM Dummy file for NTVDM"
I'm wondering if there's a way to "continue" the upgrade / merging process? He has asked me to re-install all of his software the way he had it. So i'm hoping there's an easier way to continue where he left off.

I have a pc with Windows XP pro 32bit retail version. First I have made an image, just in case. Then I have upgraded it to windows 8, 64bit by using the retail upgrade DVD and clean install. However, I found out that my motherboard is so old (5 years old) that there are no drivers for win8 and after asking ASUS they said that the motherboard is not supported any more and that there will be no new drivers for it. I tried using win7 drivers but it did not work and without correct drivers a lot of things does not work (in particularly hdmi port).What I want to do now is to revert to my image (windows xp), buy a Windows 7, 64bit upgrade retail DVD and upgrade windows xp to windows 7 for which there are drivers for my motherboard.
1) Can I use windows xp retail (whose product key has already been used to upgrade to win8) image to upgrade to windows 7 retail? will the activation of windows 7 succeed? I want to use clean install again since i upgrade from 32bit to 64bit
2) If the answer to question 1 is a yes, how does microsoft prevent users from using the same windows image file to upgrade different pc's? I mean, theoretically, I can make an image of pc1, copy it to a hard drive of pc2 (even if it will result in erroneous installation due to different specs) and upgrade both systems by using two VUP product keys which are cheaper than one VUP + one retail product keys
3) Can I use windows 8 upgrade DVD which is not used any more to upgrade another PC?
I purchased Windows 7 Professional through the Ultimate Steal.
Downloaded it, put it on a disk also.
It will go through the start of the setup and copy files etc, and then it will give an error and say to install from a current version of windows I need to use the upgrade anytim through windows.
But when I go to upgrade anytime it asks for an upgrade key, but all I have with the purchase was a product key and it says that I can't use the product key.
any help?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a Toshiba Satellite, A305 S6905 with a New Install of Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.Bios was updated to latest 2.20 version. I put two new, matched 2 GB ram modules in it. It does not show but 2 GB installed even in the Bios. I checked both modules by putting each one seperately in the primary ram slot and both were showing up as good. I even put the old 2 GB and 1 GB modules I had before under Vista and it still only shows 2 GB installed.It only shows 2 GB installed and 1.87 useable..It boots OK and seems to run fairly smoothly but I have not put it to the test under some memory hog programs yet.

i never flashed bios before and have recently noticed there is an update on the Acer web site. The bios mine is running on at the minute is R01-B3 and the new one is R01-B4.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have two SATA hard drives. I was poking around in the BIOS yesterday and noticed that they were setup IDE instead of AHCI. I am not sure what either does and did not want to change anything without asking. When I first got my PC, it had XP installed, so I am thinking that is why IDE is set. Do I need to change it to AHCI? I am not having any problems. Would it be of any great advantage to change it? I understand that after the OS is installed, it is a problem to switch to AHCI.
