Way To Get Vista Back Into Boot Menu?
Feb 6, 2009
I've had a triple-boot set up on my laptop with XP, Vista and Windows 7 beta on three logical volumes. I wanted to uninstall the Win7 beta, and ran this command using the Win7 beta installation disk:
"e:ootsect.exe /nt52 ALL /force" (E: is my DVD drive)
Stupid. Of course, with this parameter I managed to get rid of the Vista boot option as well as Win7. Now the machine only launches XP. Does anybody know a way to get Vista back into the boot menu, short of doing a Vista repair install? I've kept all files on the volumes, it should all be there.

I like to place the programs listed in the start menu in a certain order. Windows Vista will allow me to rearrange the order, however if I re-start the PC, install something new or install an update, the start menu order goes back to alphabetical. The setting for alphabetical listing remains un-ticked. I am running Windows Home Premium 32 Bit with all updates applied.

On my laptop, the Start Menu/All Programs items are listed with the Single Program items first and the Folders after them. Normally on the Start Menu/All Programs, the Folders are listed first and the individual programs after them. How do I get this order back? I tried going to Start/properties/start menu/customize and click and unclicked the "Sort All Programs...." feature and the order remains the same.

I installed "Go Back" to my new laptop (Windows Vista Home Premium 64) and now the laptop isn't able to boot anymore. (it starts booting and then it stops when GoBack starts running, GoBack errors: Internal error - press any key to reboot) So I can't boot Windows to unistall this program. (Now I figured out it's not compatible to Vista...)

I have been using a different boot screen for awhile, with no issues. I updated to SP1 and everything seems to have went just fine. But it did, for some reason, change my boot screen back to the original. No big deal, I thought, I will just change it again. I did that, and it seemed to go fine until just now (a day later).
Now the boot screen once again is back to the factory boot screen, and I cannot get it to change to my custom. I can change the .mui file in the windows/system32/en-US folder (winload.exe.mui) with no problems. But when I restart, it is the factory boot screen.

I am unable to get to bios so I can boot to my cd. I have a 64-bit Vista repair disk, but I am unable to boot to either that or an Acronis rescue disk. What can I try? I've tried every F-1 through F-12 combo I can think of...holding them down, pushing repeatedly, holding esc...holding delete, nothing is working. My screen is black...meaning, it is just like it is when in hibernation, etc. During all of my attempts, it did work once and went to my desktop, but unfortunately I tried to restore my acronis image instead of doing a system restore. how I can get into bios so I can get to my boot menu?

After encountering problems with vista I delted the vista partition and resized the xp partition back to it's original size. I am now stuck with the windows vista boot loader which persistantly telling me that the windows vista files are not present etc. etc. Is there any way that I can delted the vista bootloader and go back to using the xp bootloader?

I haven't gotten a reply back on the lost messages that I posted, but some of the important ones are still here in OE. So I would like to come back to my OE. I've had it with Vista.
How can I do an export from Vista's Windows Mail and then import them back into Outlook Express ? I saw PA Bears note about doing a drag and drop of ".eml files but how do they convert to the .dbx format for OE ?

There have been many posts about backup problems in Vista. I too was having problems. I kept researching for answers and maybe the following will help someone else with their problem. I counld not get the backup to work properly. I kept getting BACKUP FAILED messages.
I even reformatted the Hard Drive and then still ran into the problem. I read all the treads, and saw numerous refernces to REGISTRY CLEANERS. I like my 3B REGISTRY REPAIR PRO but trying to correct the backup problem, I restalled the original registry. and then tried to Back Up. Result. NO MORE BACKUP FAILURE. I am 99% sure, that when a Registry Cleaner is used, It will interfere with the Backup Program, thus generating the problems.

I'm running Microsoft Word 2007. When I go into Mailings/Envelopes and add a recipient's address (I usually change Fonts from the Default), then hit Print, nothing happens at the printer. The image on my monitor goes from the Envelope set-up screen to a blank Microsoft Word document screen. I've got an envelope snuggly tucked into the printer slot. Tried this multiple times without success. I wonder if I'm the only person who's thought about pitching Vista and going back to XP Pro.

I've never had to deal with Parttions before so forgive my ignorance. I am using Vitsa Home Premium and decided to dual boot with Kubuntu which I absolutely hated. I removed Kubuntu by deleting the partition then restoring the boot manager for Vista. The partition that contained Kubuntu is now empty. I would like to merge the partition back into Vista. How do I do this?

I have installed Vista on my C: disk. After that I installed XP on D: disk. Now I can't boot Vista anymore.
I tried with boot.ini. I've read that there's a program called bcdedit.exe. I tried to make that one work on XP, but I failed. I don't have Vista's DVD, and I'm trying to avoid installing XP again. If there's any way around...I would be gratefull! (Is there any way I can edit bcdedit.exe in XP?)

I originally had Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit installed on my computer. I wasn't given a restore disk when I bought my computer from Best Buy, luckily my brother had an old copy of XP Pro 32bit laying around, or at least I felt lucky when he came up with it after using Linux for a week.
My question is will I be able to switch from XP Pro 32bit back to Vista 64bit? I know jack about compatibility, if it isn't obvious. I've tried switching back to Linux Ubuntu 64bit but all I was given was error messages.

There are many articles on how to dual boot Vista and XP, but I want to dual boot Vista and Vista, with an existing installation, on 2 Hard Drives. Currently I switch these in the BIOS, but I'd much rather chose at a later stage, can this be done? Why? Because I keep one of the drives for random software that I rarely use.
