I just prurchased the vista ultimate upgrade to upgrade my xp version. The xp was a sp2 version and i tried to install the upgrade 32 version. the install started fine until the computer had to restart. once the restart happened the screen went blue with ***stop: 0x0000005c (0x0000010B, 0x00000003, 0x00000000, 0x00000000) showing. What do I do?

So my HP started acting up, it's dual boot XP/Vista. I used the boot recovery dvd's from HP to attempt to re-install XP. It caused a blue screen, and messed up the boot sector so I can't now get to Vista either. So after a few hours I finally gave up trying to save the data and went for a full recovery (reformat-install XP clean) that toolead to a blue screen So I finally get Vista to install fresh (wouldn't allow me to install w/my code, said I had to be in windows to use the code.) So I install Visa w/o a code, go to activate and says this had to be an upgrade! technally it still is! So I go to try to find an e-mail or ph for MS and they say $59 to talk to someone! That is BS! If I could get the boot recovery to work I'd go back to XP and never look at vista again! Is there anyway I'm going to be able to save this machine? I'm going to try to contact HP, but have little faith as it's over a year old now, but I'm sure they'd gladly sell me a boot dvd! I relize the first message was in the wrong group.

I put together a PC with brand new parts and installed Vista Ultimate about a year ago (Feb'07). Besides for waiting for driver updates at the begining when vista first came out, I have not had a problem with vista until a week ago. I have not installed any new hardware or software. I have a Radeon 1600x I thought it may be the graphics card, I took that out but I still get the same issue. I have been getting blue screen for about a week. I have done system restore, that worked for a few days with the occasional blue screen.
View 7 Replies View RelatedWhen upgrading from XP Home SP2 and XP Pro 64 Bit either way I cant get it installed, not even from Vista Ultimate 32 bit. Tried first from 32 bit XP Home SP2 and figured the exe to run the setup from within windows was 64 Bit, so I tried upgrading from xp pro 64 bit and while the install does initiate it greys out the option to Upgrade and tells me I need to do a clean install.
I try that using the same upgrade disk, since it appears to give me that option, and after the initial setup steps when it goes to load the installation files it gave me a stop error 0x0000007b. I chose the "load driver" option and loaded the sata controller driver during setup and that took me past that error.
It goes on to go through the rest of the install then I get another blue screen 0x0000000A. I followed all the steps I could think of in Microsoft KB article 935806 with the exception of updating the BIOS and still no luck, since I really want to use that as a absolute last resort. Any Ideas outside of a BIOS update? That might fix it but I just want to make sure there isnt another known issue that anyone is aware of before updating it.
I seem to be getting a blue screen error and crash on Vista Ultimate 64. Can't figure out what it is exactly, It has happened while using firefox and IE. But no common denominators. So far I am using firefox now without a crash, but it has crashed 3 times. I also saw a pop-up about task manager not working after one of the crashes.

I've been browsing the forum watching several posts on Windows Vista and 4Gb memory issues, but couldn't find a solution. I have a Sony Vaio NR210FH. I upgraded memory to 4 Gb (2 x 2Gb). BIOS recognizes ok, but Vista Home Basic doesn't start. If I only use one 2Gb, it works ok.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have Windows XP SP3 installed and operational. I have tried recently to complete an upgrade to Vista Pro with no success. I get to 59% completion on the last step at which point the computer reboots, goes to a blue screen and then resets back to Windows XP. Prior to that, everything appears to progress normally. I am wanting to do an upgrade because of the software that I want to carry over into the Vista environment (note: none of the software is identified in the Upgrade process as problematic software).
I am booting in normal mode with only Microsoft applications in the startup. I do have a Creative soundcard but have not loaded the software during startup (I did not uninstall the driver yet). I previously upgraded to Vista from SP2 but had to revert back for other reasons. Since then, the only change was to upgrade XP to SP3 and other Windows SW udpates.
Would like to hear about others' experiences and what other suggestions you might have so that I can complete the upgrade. Microsoft Technical support is unhelpful as they keep trying to get me to do a fresh install (the easy out!!!) instead of helping me complete the upgrade. Are they special commands I can issue in a RUN command that will facilitate a successful upgrade?
Am running Vista 64 Business on XFX 680i Sli LT with 2Gb ram, Quad core 6600, 600GT video. System runs fine, but I want more memory to help performance. When I try to install additional 2Gb, I get a blue-screen every time I boot (some blue screens have an IRQL_NOT_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL, most have no error msg). Is there a way to determine if my installation of Vista already has this installed? I've already checked the Control Panel/Windows Update/Review Update History, it's not in there, I thought it may be in the core install on the DVD?

Working beautifully for many months, and then a few
weeks ago this began happening:
Perhaps 2-3 times a week, and with no consistency of circumstances, a blue screen will appear. It might happen while working or when returning from hibernate. There's a countdown as memory is stored, and then a freeze. The only way to recover is to do a hard OFF (5 seconds on the power switch) and restart. When it first happened, I had not installed or changed anything, so I was comfortable doing a restore. It happened again.
It's confusing because the stated cause is inconsistent. I've checked to ensure that all drivers are updated and nothing that's contraVistarian is installed. What analytical steps can I undertake to discover what's causing this, and then to help me make the necessary changes?
I have a laptop with 64-bit Home Premium. The warranty expires in June. I want to upgrade to Ultimate. I haven't checked out the Anytime Upgrade yet. Will I be able to get the 64-bit upgrade to Ultimate or is a 32-bit upgrade to Ultimate the only upgrade path?

It starts to load up OK, put in the key number in than next step is. To pick custom install or upgrade install, but upgrade choice is grey out. It is disable from using the upgrade choice, I want to choose to pick. I did not purchase Windows Ultimate through Acer anytime upgrade option. It was a store bought software it was cheaper than Acer price they offer. What is the problem with installing Ultimate with Acer computer?

With the anytime upgrade to ultimate can I choose between the 32 and 64 bit vista ultimate? I do realize that I would have to do a clean install of the 64 bit OS. I would like to try the 64 bit version but would also like to be able revert back to the 32 bit if the 64 bit doesn't work out. View 9 Replies View RelatedProblem Blue Screen. No new hardware or software installed recently, last Windows vista update was on 01/15. When I start first, PC passes user registration (boots fine) and
does the normal stuff like loading software and starting the wireless internet connection via Netgear, opening some windows/programms I will close. All normal, but than comes a Blue Screen and very fast shut down of system with restart. Hardly can read the message...Look like Blue Screen appears when to much action is going on like opening of IE and Outlook... or open to many windows... or some bad programm/hardware is booting. But when I restart, restart gives a different blue screens and trouble is much earlier or directly after registering to the system.
But all starting or booting turn slower, real slow now. Start in --safe mode with net working-- the PC works, but the PC can't handle heavy workloads, is really slow in action. I cannot open --My pictures-- to see all picture files displyed on screen (2.7 GB) (the process trying to access the files in safe mode is real slow) and when I attempt to transfer the file to a USB stick, the computer is stopping in middle of action (after 50% transfer)..........
I want to reformat my computer and install Vista Ultimate 64-bit as my operating system. I'd rather not spend a couple hundred dollars to do this when I already own Vista Ultimate 32-bit. My computer came with Home Premium and I purchased a Vista Ultimate Upgrade CD (32 bit). Now what I want to know is if I buy the $30 non liscensed Vista Ultimate (64 bit) CD, can I use my Ultimate (32 bit) Activation key to activate it? This would save me around $150. I talked to the Microsoft guys via chat but we just kept going around and around and they never really answered whether or not the Ultimate 64 bit would accept my Ultimate 32 bit upgrade key.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI've had voltage issues causing my computer to freeze or reboot during games and dvds. Fixed that and the computer was fine after memtest showing no problems. That was late Dec.
A few days ago, the computer would go to a blue screen saying it's dumping physical memory and then automatically reboots. Thinking my harddisk might be collapsing on me (I have a seagate barracuda 7200.11 500Gb HD with the SD15 firmware, the infamous crash friendly HD), I flash the HD with the SD1A firmware from seagate, then it was fine. 2days later, Catalyst started to cause problems by not responding, so I formated the drive and reinstalled vista ultimate, along with Catalyst, drivers from Mobo manufacturer ASUS, plus a couple of other softwares. That was yesterday, and now I'm getting the same blue screen back, or the computer just freezes.
I commonly get a blue screen. So how do I solve this problem 2ndly, whenever I play music on my WMP, the computer may just hang on me, giving all but zzzz buzzes and the whole screen shows lines.

My one guess is its something to do with the display driver maybe because that has been stuffing up a bit of late, in the way of the screen going black for a couple of seconds then recovering.
I work using Vista Ultimate since 2006, it was very expencive, since 2006 ONLY, the date Microsoft made possible to buy it (a very short-life-operating-system and ... expencive, very expencive). Now if I want to upgrade to W7 Ultimate I must pay 319 euro !!!!! (nearly US$ 480).
It's only a service pack, maybe less than a service pack!!!!! Yes it's faster but only switch on and off (computer switch on and switch off ONLY). I was told that it's faster ONLY coz Microsoft made it less secure. I work very well with VISTA Ultimate (it is possible to make it working good: you need a good hardware, surely it needs a good hardware, it's a nonsense to say VISTA doesn't work and it has many problems: I do not have problems of any kind). I do not change, I do not move from Vista, I do not want to pay 319 euro only to have a computer running faster in switch on and off, few seconds. I repeat: BUT ARE WE ALL CRAZY ???????????????????????? Every 2 o 3 years should I pay 300 or 400 or 500 or maybe more euro?

I have just purchased the HP m9250F, which comes pre-loaded with Vist HP 64-Bit. I have purchased the Vista Ultimate Upgrade Retail Version.. I have completed ALL updates available for Vista HP. When I tried to Upgrade HP to Ultimate, it would NOT allow me to Upgrade, only to Clean (Not sure if thats the name) install, Upgrade disabled. It suggested that I use a more up to date version and than retry the Upgrade. Not positive if those are the exact words, but 90% correct. What doesn't make sense is that ALL of the updates have been completed and none are pending.So, whats up and how do I fix it? Really don;t want to do a Clean Install, only because I don't know what will or won't work if it done.

I have tried stripping the system to just a video card and a hd nothing helps. Does anyone know a way i can use the upgrade i payed way too much for? And before you ask i have the 64 bit upgrade dvd.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI need the DVD for the Ultimate upgrade. I do have the digital license and when I click it, the screen says to insert the DVD upgrade disk. However, I purchased online from Staples in 2007 when you could do an online install of the upgrade. Since Feb. 2008 Microsoft has been sending DVD media to do the install.
1. Staples sold it to me for $149.00 and takes no responsibility for their sales. And say go to Microsoft.
2. Microsoft says it is DigitalRivers responsibility as that is the service they used.
Another Microsoft agent said maybe I could purchase a replacement for $30.00.3. The online Microsoft upgrade site gives all the information you need to purchase if you are buying a copy of the upgrade. But Microsoft hides any information about the DVD media for people like me who rushed to purchase the Upgrade to Premium and then the anytime upgrade to Ultimate.
I am about to upgrade to Vista Ultimate, taking advantage of a local sale on the product. Aside from the usual smartass comments about not bothering, or using Linux (which I do by the way) does anyone have any suggestions as to what I should look out for? View 4 Replies View RelatedI was a beta tester for Vista and so, received a copy of Vista Ultimate. I have a laptop with Vista Home Premium installed (with SP-1). I tried to upgrade to Ultimate, with no luck. I received a prompt that the installed version was "newer" and the only thing I could do was a clean install, which I did. Of course, this lead to driver issues and the usual clean installation headaches. I also lost use of my built-in webcam and it's associated program(s).
I subsequently did a complete restore to factory condition so everything works right, but would still like to upgrade to Ultimate so I can use the laptop on the domain at work. Assuming the "newer version" issue was caused by S-1 being installed, can I do an upgrade if I remove SP-1? If SP-1 isn't the issue,is there anyway I can do an upgrade to Ultimate without losing all my installed drivers and programs?
Is it possible to upgrade my Vista 32-bit to Vista 64-bit without a reformat? I really don't want to have to go and deal with the PITA backups and reinstallation of programs... View 8 Replies View RelatedI want to upgrade from Vista Enterprise/SP1 to Vista Ultimate/SP1 Life is after all more than just work, and i would lke to use Media Center edition. In spite of the fact that I am a Volume license customer with SA and have paid extra for Ultimate media kits, there seems to be no way to upgrade from Enterprise to Ultimate. That is most unfortunate and frustrating as doing a clean Ultimate install may be an option in theory, but, with a mature Enterprise setup, not in practice! I know, by the way, about changing the word 'Enterprise' into 'Business' in the registry., however it makes no difference. The 'upgrade' option remains grayed out and I am being advised to install a 'newer' version?! The exsting setup is Enterprise/SPI and I am trying to go to ULtimate/SP1 which is certainly not older. So why is Vista complaining?
