For the last few days I have been unable to receive my email. It prompts me for my username and password. I don't have my account set up that way. I made sure that none of those boxes are checked in my account information, but it still asks for that information. I get the following error message :
Account: 'mail.comcast.net', Server: 'mail.comcast.net', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR invalid command', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC18
Since migrating to Windows Mail a year ago on a new PC running Vista, I've been unable to open, or to save and open, email attachments received in .pdf or .jpg format. When I try to open .pdf attachments, I get an error message reading, "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Set Associations control panel." If I save a .pdf attachment in Adobe Reader and then try to open it, I get a message saying, "Adobe Reader could not open [file] because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded)." I run Adobe Reader 8. Where do I look to find a solution to this problem? Is it related to the similar problem with JPEG's?
I am running Windows Vista home edition and when I receive my email using Windows Mail, it says it is receiving the email ok but then it all disappears. There are no messages in the inbox or any other folder. I tested that my email is getting to my mailbox on my ISP'S server by using their webmail. I have had people send me test messages and they all show up in the mailbox. After I start up Windows mail and it says it is receiving "n" messages and then they disappear, I logged back onto my webmail and all the mail is gone so I know it is being sent to my PC.
Can anyone help with this problem? I have no idea where the messages are going to, they just seem to disappear. I hav uninstalled the antivirus program that I had because I thought maybe it had something to do with it but that did not do any good. I have no other firewalls or anything running on the PC outside of what comes with Vista.
When I repled to an email it was not received by the original sender. I didn't receive a message telling me that the email had not been received. I then sent a test email and copied myself. I received the copy but again the recipient didn't. My pal then sent an email to a number of his friends requesting a reply and he received replies from all of them. So it seems that he is receiving emails from everyone except me and I'm sending emails to everyone except him. I should state that this has only happened within the last week, up until then I had been sending emails to this address without any problems.
A month ago I could send emails out of my Windows Mail account, now I can't. I can only receive mails. I've tried dissabling my antivirus, lowering internet protection and nothing. This is the error message I get. The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'test', Account: 'Vina Corral Victoria', Server: 'mail.corralvictoria.cl', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10051, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E This is driving me crazy.
I can't seem to find anyone else who has this problem. I can send and receive email and I can send email with attachments in Windows mail. BUT when I get an email with an attachment, I cannot open it. Nothing happens. I have run Regcure which is the standard for problems with Windows Mail, but it did no good. I am running Vista Premium Home on a Lenova laptop, a T61 -- fairly powerful.

I have not been getting email from one friend. She has checked that my address is typed correctly ( besides, I am in her contacts and have been for a long time - and that is how she addresses the mail). I am not receiving her mail in inbox, or deleteds, or spam. I have checked to make sure she was not inadvertantly blocked, and she is not on the blocked senders list.
Cannot send or receive email. Always receive error message when Windows Mail tries to connect to ISP server. Nothing wrong with ISP provider, problem lies with Microsoft Host Name. I always receive error message displaying "Socket error 10061, error number OX800CCCOE". Does anyone know what Microsoft screwed up this time?

I just received an email that also has an attachment. There is a spot for the attachment (picture) to actually appear in the email--there is a red square box with a little "x" on the upper left side where the picture should be; but there is nothing in the box. But I can open the attachment with I click on it. The attachment is: image003.jpg(12.5KB). I am running Vista Home Premium with Norton's 360.
This keeps happening. Let me note that I never have missed paying a bill to Comcast. Why do people keep getting the messages they write to me back again? Here is what the most recent one said. "Sorry, we were unable to deliver your message to the following address.
< my email address>: Mail server for "comcast.net" unreachable for too long" I collect my email numerous times a day. Is there something I can do to receive email again? I do get some email but many times people are getting them back again.
I'm trying to set up my Windows Email and when it comes to the POP3 & SMTP I'm not quite sure what I need to put there in order to send and receive emails from my windows. I've tried everything and nothing works. I don't see anywhere online for assistance with this I'm not sure if you put microsoft.pop3.com & microsoft.smtp.com because when I tried that it didn't work.
For some odd reason, I seem to get duplicates of every email received. Usually I get two copies, on rare occasions three or four, and last weekend I got more than 30 copies of a single email. I have already turned off the anti-spam feature of my anti-virus program. Is there any way to change the settings so I get only one copy of each email? I am running Vista Home Premium, 32 bit, with 3GB of memory on Dual CPU E2180 @ 2 GHz.
when i try to play an avi file that i recieved in a e-mail, a pop up box tells me, this file does not have a program asssociated with it for performing this action, create an association in the associations control panel. can anybody tell me where the associstions control panel is and how i go about it,i have windows vista 32-bit,
I have several email accounts configured on my windows mail on my Vista home premium and one of them is configured as the default email. When I reply to emails received on email accounts other than the default email the "from" email address does not change to the email address of the received account.
I understand that the email address in the "from' field when I start a "new" message or create mail is that of the configured default email. My question is while replying to an email received in other configured accounts should not the "from" field email id change from the default email id to the email address of the email to which is replied.
I have set up my account 5 or 6 times. I have roadrunner as my internet provider. the pop is pop-server.wi.rr.com and smtp is smtp-server.wi.rr.com I was able to send one email and then I closed windows mail. 10 mins later, went back in to try and send an email and I received this error message.
Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Subject 'Re: Computer', Account: 'Home', Server: 'smtp-server.wi.rr.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F
Recently some default security policies has been changed on my Vista, apparently as the result of upgrades to my system.
1: I can no longer activate an URL received in an incoming email directly but must copy the URL to the address bar in my Internet Explorer. This makes sense and I can live with that.
2: I discover that I can no longer open some of my word documents "created in an earlier version of Microsoft Office". The message refers to registry policy settings and the help system refers to a Microsoft knowledge base article 922850 that leads me nowhere useful.
I am unable to send email. Using Vista. Have emptied outbox as suggested in other posts. Outbox was emptied without difficulty, sent to drafts, then deleted. Created new email - tried to send - still couldn't. Error message - unable to connect to smpt server. Have gone to tols - accounts - servers - re-entered info.
My Microsoft Mail in Vista moves received and sent emails in a very odd manner. Rather than keep emails sorted strictly by date received and/or sent, the emails are moved. For example, if I reply to an email received and it had a subject line, a return email may be buried deep based on who sent the original and the subject. This makes finding the emails very difficult. I would like all emails received and sent to be sorted based on date received and/or sent, similar to Outlook.
Have Windows Mail on PC with Vista. New laptop has Windows 7. Want to access email from laptop but must download Windows Mail Live in order to do so. It forces me to change my email address to their default address at hotmail. There is no place for "other" and the ability to type in my own.
Whenever I try to access my e-mail(windows mail), I get a window which tells me that there is no copnnection available to the internet. I am then asked if I want to go online, in which case I have to click the button that says try again. This also happened with Internet Explorer, but Talktalk managed to fix that by removing a tick in the box for working offline. They are unable to fix the email error. I would like to be able to go directly to the email inbox whenever I start the computer. What do I have to do?
When sending emails I receive a message "Your email message was unable to be sent because your mail server rejected the message 451 4.7.1 <End of Message> data rejected:ip has temporarily exceeded the allowed mail recipient relay per day". Is it a coincidence that the problem occurred in mmediately after accepting a windows update?
I have a brand new computer running Vista and the only emil program I have is Windows Mail. I installed it and configured it but find that although I can RECEIVE OK the mails I try to send get the error:"An unknown error has occurred. Subject '', Account: 'mail.talktalk.net', Server: 'smtp.talktalk.net', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '554 smtp.talktalk.net', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 554, Error Number: 0x800CCC6F"
I have checked the mail settings with the ISP and they are fine, I have read the postings here and I can find no new clues, At the moment I can receive emails through Windows Mail but only reply through webmail!
Please could somebody advise me as to whether there is a known problems with Vista Mail not sending attachments? An error message pops up yet it still sends the email but NOT the attachment.
I am trying to set up my windows mail for the first time. I am able to receive emails ok but am unable to send any and keep getting the following error message.
