Outlook 2007: Before I Upgraded The Desktop To Vista, I Copy The Outlook.pst Back And Forth The Two Machines To Synchronize My E-mail

Mar 23, 2008

I have a desktop that I upgraded from XP Pro to Vista Ultimate and a laptop running on Windows XP Pro. I recently upgraded both devices from Office 2003 to Office 2007. Before I upgraded the desktop to Vista, I copy the Outlook.pst back and forth the two machines to synchronize my e-mail. Now that the desktop is running on Vista and the laptop still running XP Pro, can I do the same thing to synchronize my e-mail or is there a better solution in synchronizing the pst files.

How Configure WinMail To Synchronize Folders, Not All Mail Folder?

Jul 29, 2009

I just configured Vista's Windows mail to hook up with my gmail account via IMAP. I have my emails stored in a folder structure (gmail calls them "labels"), which was recreated and all the emails downloaded. So far, so good. But then WinMail downloaded all 1700 emails again in the All Mail folder. I bought a small SDD drive for my new machine and do not want all the emails stored locally twice. How do I configure WinMail to synchronize my folders, but not the All Mail folder, and then I can delete the All Mail folder? Or are there any other options I can use?

Booting On Different PC Computers No Label, Vista Does Not Boot

Mar 26, 2008

I install Vista Ultimate on one PC. It is an HP Pavilion a1700n. I remove the 40 GB IDE HD from the HP PC and put it into a Compaq EVO 510 PC. Result: Vista does not boot. I have researched the subject but still have not found a solution. The microsoft vista deployment step by step seems awfully complex.

Has anyone found a simple way to solve this problem? I have also tried the reverse (from compaq to HP PC): Same result! With XP I could boot into safe mode or just boot normally and XP would detect and install the new hardware it finds. Somtimes I would need to install XP from CD on the target PC to copy the boot.ini and hall.dll files to a usb flash drive. Then I would restore the image of XP on the target PC. I would boot into recovery console and copy the files form the flash drive to the target PC (boot.ini to C: and hal.dll to C:windowssystem32). Most times I could then boot the target PC normally or in safe mode.

Vista & XP Networking; Access Shared Folders Between The Two Computers

Mar 23, 2008

I have a desktop with XP and a laptop I recently purchased with Vista on it. I have been trying to access shared folders between the two computers and have found it impossible access each other. Here are some things you should know:

- Network discovery, file sharing, public folder sharing, and media sharing is turned ON. Printer sharing and Password protected sharing are OFF.

- Network is set to Private

- All computers are verified to be in the workgroup "WORKGROUP"

- Both computers can ping eachother

- Windows firewall is disabled on both computers. I have disabled and deleted Norton Anti Virus from both computers as well.

- Resolving through IP or Computer Name does NOT work

- Downloaded and installed Link Layer Topology Discovery (LLTD) Responder on XP Computer from microsofts website
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=4F01A31D-EE46-481E-BA11-37F485FA34EA&displaylang=en

- Tried enabled NetBIOS on all computers as suggested by a forum post I read

Networked Computers Work But Do Not Show Up In In The Vista Network Folder

Jan 31, 2008

I am networking Vista and XP. Everything seems to be working EXCEPT the XP computer does not show up in in the Vista network folder. I can access the XP computer by entering \computername in the "start search" box, after which I see all the XP shared files and can access the files as expected. When I run the "map complete network" function, the network map is correct and shows the switch, XP computer, and Vista computer. The XP side works 100%

The only problem is that on the Vista side when you open an explorer window and click on Network, the XP computer doesn't show up. For purposes of debugging, both firewalls are off. Authentication is set to NTLMv1 level, and the XP LLTD patch has been applied.

How To Synchronize Folders

Jan 10, 2009

how to actually use the windows Sync center to synchronize a folder with a USB device. I've seen a lot of similar questions on online forums yet no one seems to answer them. Maybe Microsoft assumed that their software would be so user friendly that they don't need to include instructions on how to synchronize folders, I don't know. But if anyone knows how to do it

Offline Files Fail To Synchronize

Mar 23, 2008

I have my documents redirected to the server and therefore Vista has an offline copy of these files.

I notice that some files are failing to synchronize automatically, but will synchronize if I manually perform it.

For example:

An 767KB xls file changed in Vista requires a manual synchronization.A 1KB txt file will synchronize immediately.

Both files are in the same folder.

I also notice that Sync Center rarely updates the Offline Files status. The Last sync date could be days ago. It will update if I manually synchronize, but it won't update automatically.

If the user logs off or on, the xls file still won't synchronize. I notice this on both Vista RTM and SP1 beta machines.

XP machines will update the server share immediately.

Synchronize Laptop With Desk Computer

May 15, 2010

I am running Vista Home Premium on both my desk and laptop computers. On my desktop computer, I store all my documents and data inside the "Steve" folder which was automatically created when I first got the computer. I'd like to be able to transfer everything from my Desktop Steve folder into my laptop so I can have the up-to-date files with me when I travel.

But 99% of the files in the Steve folder don't normally change and I don't keep track of each and every file that I work with on my desktop computer, and re-copying the entire contents of the folder takes hours. Is there a way to just copy over those files that have been worked on and been modified?? (Even when I'm not sure which ones they are?) Or alternatively, is there some better way to accomplish what I'm trying to do? Perhaps both computers share the same Steve folder??

Re-synchronize Data Server Service Is Not Started

Sep 23, 2008

This morning I synchronized my Vista 32 Business SP1 laptop with my XP Home SP3 desktop. After finishing some work on the XP desktop I want to re-synchronize data for tomorrow's presentation with the Vista laptop and all I get is an error message with a message that my Server Service is not started. I have no idea why Microsoft thinks that every home user has their own personal network administrator, but anyway, I don't.

So I checked in Services.msc and, yes, Server Services are running. Just to check I paused and resumed, without any change. A ping was good (6 ms) and net view sees all connected machines. I go to the XP desktop and download some files from the laptop without problems. I try accessing the desktop from the Vista laptop and have no connection whatsoever.

Internet Keeps Often Disconnecting After The Initial Email Check In A Synchronize All

Feb 6, 2009

For me, a Synchronize All often disconnects from the internet after checking my only email server, but before checking any of my newsgroups servers. I found the Accounts screen for my email account; nothing is entered there. All the email and newsgroups accounts have a checkmark before Include this account when checking for new messages.

However, when doing a Synchronize All, I sometimes but not always get an error message after the check of the email server, but before the check of any of the newsgroups servers, saying there is no longer any connection to the internet and asking if I want to try the connection again. When I tell it I do, the connection is usually restored within a few seconds.

Using Different Computers To Access WM

Jun 28, 2008

I recently set up WM on my desktop using my AOL email account information. I can view email in AOL until WM refreshes and the emails are visible there as well. However, if I read the AOL mail first, it doesn't make it to WM. I also set up my laptop with WM using the same AOL account but I can't seem to see my emails there, unless of course, I intercept them just as they come in. Is there a way to see ALL my emails on WM on either computer? I don't care if I can't use AOL anymore but do want the ability to see my emails regardless of which computer I'm using. Am I supposed to save to a server? If so, which is considered the server?

Cannot See XP Computers On Network

Jun 17, 2008

I am very new to Vista. I have a small home network. The three XP machines on the network use static IP addresses. One of the XP machines shares a printer. When I open Windows Explorer and click on Network the only computer listed is the Vista Business machine.

I cannot find any way to search for a computer by entering the computer name or IP address as I can in Explorer on XP. I have no idea what the search box in the upper right corner is supposed to do but it does not work. As soon as I type any character in the box it says "No items match your search." I can ping the XP machine from a command window on the vista machine. If I do DIR \COMPUTERNAMEPRINT$ at the command prompt the directory on the XP machine is listed. I can see the Vista machine in Explorer on the XP machine. What must I do to allow Vista to see the other computers on the network?
