I recently(about a week ago) bout an Acer 22" LCD and a ATI HD 5750 card. Everything has been going fine..until this morning i turn on the computer and Im stuck in 640*480 and under device manager the monitor shows up as a "generic non PnP monitor"..

Even though i use 1900X1200 res, I still Get Generic PnP Monitor on this card(XFX 980GX2). I already use the current driver and the beta driver but still Generin PnP Monitor. I also try to delete all the drivers to have a clean install driver to this card but again nothing happens. I dont know what to do anymore.
View 6 Replies View Relatedi have only one monitor, and somehow it is being treat as though its the secondary monitor in a dual monitor set up. i cannot view my start menu, or view any programs being opened, as when i try to open them, they presumeably open on the phantom primary monitor. even when i try to open display settings, i cannot see the box. i am able to move my mouse to the left border of the screen and move it off into oblivion, and occasionally drag random folders and short cuts over to view.

Ran into a virus problem so we had to reformat, in which we installed Windows Vista Home Basic 32bit. Everything is up and running now but I am having trouble trying to download a driver for my monitor. My resolution is stuck at 640X480, and my colors are Medium 16bit. I've downloaded the only kind of drive I could see from the Dell website and it doesn't help my problem. My model number on the monitor is a Dell 1801FP. another model #'s driver I could download to help me solve this problem? I have a standard VGA Graphics Adapter.

I purchased a Sandisk Ultra II, 2GB to transfer data from my laptop to
the Gateway. The data transferred from the laptop to the Sandisk but
the computer with Vista does not see the data on the card. I saved a
photo from the Vista computer to the card and it shows up with the Vista
computer but not in the XP computer. Apparantly the card is fine. What
is my problem with Vista vs XP?
I downloaded and installed successfuly an update software program for my KODAK ESP Printer. Upon reboot I discovered my Acer X223W monitor suddenly reverted to a 'Generic PNP Display'...no rhyme or reason for this.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm having a problem with some of my document icons appearing as the "generic" icon rather than the program-specific icon that indicates what program created them. This occurs for all of my MS Office documents and Acrobat Reader PDF files. It does not happen for MP3 files.
The problem started a couple days ago following a botched System Restore to fix another issue. SR froze for about an hour in the "Initializing" stage, at which point I did a hard reset. Here's a rundown of what I've tried already. Nothing has worked.
1) Deleted iconcache.db from AppData/Local and restarted.
2) Restarted in safe mode and then in normal mode.
3) Changed the screen resolution to 16-bit and back to 32-bit.
4) Ran a few spyware scanners: Malwarebytes, Spybot, Adaware
5) Tried right-clicking on individual files and associating them with MS Word, Acrobat, etc.
6) Doing another system restore to "fix" the original aborted System Restore, but this one had to be aborted as well 7) Did plenty of Googling, which turned up nothing beyond the above fixes
I added a second monitor to the GeForce 7100 GS using a DVI-VGA adapter and for the life of me cannot get it to display anything, the monitor is just in sleep mode. I've got the latest driver, Windows is up to date, checked the cables, tried another adapter, tried everything but, still nothing. The second monitor shows up in the device manager and in the Nvidia control panel. It's enabled and set to extend desktops. It seems the system knows it's there because I can move the mouse over, but cannot see anything. The power light on the second monitor just flashes. I've swapped monitors over, to make sure there's not a problem with the display and it's fine. When I do that, the main monitor is then plugged in to the DVI adapter and then that one goes to sleep. Just seems whichever monitor is plugged in to the DVI-VGA adapter just doesn't want to work........

Whenever I open a folder containing pictures, the picture files appear as generic icons and don't show their thumbnail. How can I get my picture files to show as thumbnails? Also, I use several picture editors (Picasa, Fastone, Elements 4, etc). Can I get them all to appear in "Open with" recommended section. When I right click on a picture file and select open with, I get recommended and other programs. I guess, now that I have fiddled with this a little, that what I really want to be able to do is to place the programs I want into the recommended section and remove those that I don't want there (like put them into the Other Programs section. May I assume that once I know how to do this (if it is possible), that whenever I get an "open with," I should be able to customize it?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have Windows 7 Ultimate RC 32 bit that I'm using in dual-boot mode with Windows XP Professional SP2. I am using an old ViewSonic monitor and I don't have the drivers. Windows XP is apparently using a generic driver which lets me set any screen resolution I like and I usually use 1024x768. Windows 7 has a generic driver which will only allow 800x600. Does anyone know if the Windows XP video driver will work in Windows 7 and, if so, the best way to copy and install it?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI don't know what happened here, but my shortcut that points to the snipping tool turned into one of those generic icons - and it says that it can't find C:WindowsSystem32SnippingTool.exe. Sure enough, a check of System32 shows it's not there. I didn't go in there. so I have no idea what happened here. It's not in the recycle bin either, so it didn't get accidentally deleted, at least not recently. So, is it as simple as grabbing a copy of SnippingTool.exe from another installation and pasting it into System32? Any risk in this (aside from it not working if there were some dependencies that are also gone?) If that doesn't work does sfc restore this?

I keep all my sidebar gadgets to the other monitor so I can monitor temps and system diagnostics. Today, my sidebar is on my main monitor and no mater what I do it won't go back to monitor-2, no mater what the setting is in the sidebar properties. What is going on here?

Now they don't display anything except a flower, house, ect. However I'll surf it and go to my regular places and some times my hour glass gets stuck going up and down, causing me to log off. It's free and I'm wondering is it sucking up my resorces? Would it be better to deep six it and stay with internet explore? What pro's and mostly cons do you folks know about aol?
View 4 Replies View RelatedSince my system picked up a "virus". I booted back up in safe mode and deleted all the files manually and used a program called "your uninstaller" to clean up the registry as windows uninstaller kept getting stuck on a .dll file.
ok this is what i've done so far:
1) updating the driver (no update available)
2) uninstall the driver and reboot.
3) pull my hair out
It just won't play dvd's or let me see any data on them, they appear blank even though i know they arent (after checking them on another machine). But it will play cd's fine.
Last night I was trying to get rid of some of the virtual memory on my laptop.
It has 320 Gb and 260 Gb are occupied so since I only have 80 Gb on the HD, I was trying to fix the problem.Well instead to fix the problem I made a mess somehow I changed the users and Admin' options, and I changed all the permissions to the accounts two accounts!! I was trying to get control of the system like a TrustedInstaller.instead.the laptop works but I have no access to anything!
Right now I basically have no permission only reading NO ACCESS to the hard disk ...no access to most of the systems' folders .
In prompt I can not really do anything since it denies every my request.
I have a problem with my computer, and it won't let me run Ad-Aware. I already ran the system check to see it isn't a hardware problem. I have deleted all temp files, ran virus scans, etc., but the problem hasn't gone away. What's happening is that the computer is slowing down. If I click from one screen to another, some of its graphics will remain for a couple seconds (these seemed like indications to me of a bad processor, but apparently that's not the case.)
I know when I don't run Ad-Aware to remove multiple spyware software for a while, my computer slows down. But everytime I run Ad-Aware, it gets stuck (and not always on the same file.) I have already tried reinstalling Ad-Aware, but the problem remains.
I just bought a brand new computer couple of weeks ago and today I noticed two stuck pixels on my brand new Samsung 2232GW screen!!!
I know that in order to return it, it has to have 7 stuck pixels, so I gues I'm stuck with it....
The problem is that I tried massaging them, tapping and even hitting and shaking to no avail.I tried the softwares like UndeaPixels and JScreenfix but they don't work, I still have two stuck pixels in the center of my beautiful 22'' one blue and one red!
Every peice of hardware is brand new and there is nothing saved in my hard drive right now.
I am doing a clean install of windows 64 home premium edition, basically when i get to the screen that asks me where i want to install windows...there is no drive for me to choose. My Hard drive is SATA and it is detected in BIOS in the IDE channel 0 Master slot. I have tried other SATA cables and I have tried other SATA slots. I have tried AHCI option in BIOS. I have tried runnin in Native Mode as well as Legacy IDE mode.

I click the correct model number and at the next page on the bottom it asks for the type of OS you have...I select windows 64 obviously. I then save the drivers to my USB drive. I extract the files and switch my USB drive over to the new comp. when i get to the screen that asks me where i want to install windows, there is an option to load drivers. However, once i load the drivers the only way they can be selected is if I un-check the box "HIDE DRIVERS THAT ARE NOT COMPATIBLE WITH HARDWARE ON THIS COMPUTER." Now, one would think that i have incompatible drivers...but i'm getting them directly from the mobo website.
i have recently bought a Toshiba L500 (Australian model) and played for awhile and have realised the number 1 keys is hard to push, so when i press it down mutiple 11111111111111111111 appear and becomes stuck and when i un-jig it, it stops and pushing down is harder than the surrounding numeric numbers so it definitely indicates something is wrong. (top row of numbers) can it be fixed at a service center or go back and get a new 1, or are there other options?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI was about to order a new harddrive since mine has failed. But then I decided to look inside one more time, and found that there are two harddrives in there. I never used he second one at all even though it was always there (i figured it was just one harddrive split in two and never needed the extra space). So I decided to switch the harddrive cords since one was hard to get to and because I have no idea which is the one I was using and which one I never used. I used my recovery disks on it and it seemed like everything was going fine. Then to test it, I shut down the computer then turned it back on 5 minutes later. Then I got stuck on the black screen with blinking "_", and eventually it says failed to boot disk please insert system disk.
so my questions are:
*Did switching the cords make the secondary harddrive the main one,
*Does this mean both harddrives have failed?
*Are my system files corrupt?
I have been having this problem all day.There are two messages stuck in my outbox messages and they out box are no being displayed. I keep getting a message saying message could not be displayed windows mail encountered an unexpected problem check your computer for low memory or low disk space and try again.Is that the problem how do I check.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI turn it on and get a message saying to insert the DVD to fix a system registry error. ( I don't remember what message it was sorry) So I do and windows boots. I backed up my files that night. Next day windows is acting weird and sluggish, if I try to open my computer or documents PC freezes, it takes a long time to boot and 8 times out of ten will hang on the green loading bar or take an hour to load, my sound card deleted itself as did my cdrom drive. Safe mode either takes forever to boot or will freeze when loading drivers, I tried to re store/reinstall and boot from the vista DVD at startup but i get the message "The file is possibly corrupt. The file header check sum does not match the computed check sum" or "couldn't find boot manager". This happens for the x64 vista disk, x32 disk and my XP pro disk. I tried to reformat in safe mode command prompt and it said Formatting the partition was prohibited. I thought it was my ram at first so bought new ram but still the same problem. I'm also not sure what caused this I do regular virus checks with up to date software, maybe its a bad windows update?

View 4 Replies View RelatedSo basically, I have a Sony Vaio with Windows Vista 32 bits. We send it off to my fathers company to get an anti-virus installed. When they gave it back, I tried to get wired internet but nothing. So I checked the LAN configuration and the static ip and DNS of the company had been left there (when before it was configured to be used with DHCP as I use at home). So I tried to change it by putting Get IP address automatically, nothing complicated. I restarted the computer, but the static IP stayed, as if it was stuck. Tried the same 3 times and nothing. I am the Admin of my computer, but it seems that the OS or something won't let me change the IP address.
I went to talk the technicians in the company but they couldn't resolve it. I'm kind of getting mad about this subject, I just want to use the internet in my laptop. After trying everything (even reseting the IP through cmd.exe, which worked because the static IP was erased, yet when viewing properties, the static IP option is still selected but with no specific IP address in the boxes) I can only think of uninstalling and reinstalling the network controller. I am just afraid that the driver is not embeded within the disk (because when I bought the computer, no drivers were given to me). Before doing anything rash and messing the computer even further,
