Slow Connection From Home Prem To Sbs2003sp2
Mar 23, 2008
I connected a Laptop with Vista Home Premium to our Homenetwork which includes several xp-workstations and a sbs2003 sp2. network is not a domain but a workgroup. the laptop can connect to every workstation with normal speed but the connection to the sbs2003 is very slow. It takes about 30 to 45 sec to build up every picture and filetransfer takes days.

I bought retail upgrade vista home premium. Installed on my primary pc and ACTIVATED it. Had odd problems, fixed, then realized I really wanted the ultimate edition. So, bought retail ultimate upgrade. Wiped hard drive, installed XP pro, installed ultimate 64 from there. Now, here is the real question. I now have a perfectly good legal copy of home premium that is not being used. Can I use this copy on a different PC? BTW, it's too late to get a refund from MS, I missed that
window of opportunity.

I was wondering if RDP, ISS, and IPP are able to work in Vista Home Prem. If not why are they there. Also is IIS needed for IPP since IPP is listed on another check box?

I have windows vista home premium 32 bit. Its on a dell inspiron (a laptop which is a little over a year old). Recently I had to reformat it due to clutter and possible Trojans on my hard drive. However I cant seem to get the thing to boot. -I put in widows vista cd and boot from that then hit "install now" and choose the "custom" option (not upgrade) then I formated all drives (recovery and main c drive)and then chose my main drive to install it on it does fine copying, expanding, installing features and updates and then reboots and goes back to that page (of the copying, expanding, etc... page) and says "completing installation..." with the pulseing "..."
(meaning its still thinking I suppose) and then after 45 minutes or so it goes to a black screen with a cursor and does nothing else. -if i try to reboot: it will give me the message for the safe mode etc...on it and if i choose normal mode it goes to the windows booting page with the loading bar below it and just sits like that (note: the loading bar is going across but pauses ever so often like it cant get over something and never starts). I have done several reinstallations (with xp and vista) but have never had this problem before

Installed Hitman game. When I attempted to start game, receieved error that a file was missing. From my memory, it was something like MSVLL771.dll (not accurate, but close). Vista prompted me that it could find the problem and then recommended a download. It was an update in the realm of Framework 1.1- something or other. After downloading and attempted implementation, Vista let me know this program was already on my PC. I did an internet search for the "missing" file and downloaded it specificly and placed in the game's file. The game now ran with no problem.
Yet, at the next boot up of PC it crashed to the "problem" screen. At this point I was able to use safe mode and attempt a recovery by going back to an earlier save point. Did this and reboot. Now PC crashes again and now will not start in any mode (safe, normal, safe with networking, etc) By not start, I mean I get past the prompt asking which mode to start, screen goes blank, no Vista load, just a cursor. The LED light seems to be processing, yet nothing happens from here. I placed Vista disk in to boot from it to Fix and Re-install, but this does not help. After a few steps it goes to a driver selection screen with no drivers available. Lets me browse, but I have no clue where to look for these?

Unable to complete install SP1, and gets code 0x80004005. It seems to have to do with some kind of registration. I have a Windows Update that works fine so it seems strange. The only thing that changed (as I know of) is that now I have in the corner of my lower right screen, a new message showing: Windows Vista (TM) Evaluation copy. Build 6000 - I could have taken that if the install was a success.

Been running Vista x64 for a while with no problems at all ( yes...honestly!!! ) with a Quad Core and 4Gb ram and an internet connection that was as good as I was expecting. A few months back, though, things went downhill very suddenly! Now, it takes 20 minutes plus just to open some websites, and download speeds have dropped to virtually nothing. I am talking dialup speeds on a 2Mb line. Model is a Belkin wireless router, but I am connected to it by cable since the PC is right by the phone line. I have 2 other PC's in the house ( both running XP wirelessly ) One is temporarily offline due to other issues... but the other is connecting normally with no speed problems. I have done the 'google' thing, and disabled the auto-tuning facility, with no noticable improvements............................

is it plausible to see a list with all applications that use the network/internet? this because my pc is very quick when the internet is off, but when I start my pc and the internet is on, than it is very slow (for example: I had to wait 30 minutes before I could log in on this site!!!). it's not because of any firewall/antivirus/antispam/antispyware program, because I turned them off.
(it started on the 7th this month, when I found out there were some updates from vista. I even couldn't download them, because everything crashed: desktop, windows update, taskbar, microsoft word, MSN. Since than it happens all the time there is an internetconnection)

my startups have recently slowed down. I have disabled stuff from the startup selection, and still had no luck. I think the problem lies with the network connection. It seems to be taking a while before it connects to my router. not sure why this started happening usually used to be alot quicker.

I am going to sound like a real big rookie, well because I am. My portable computer is for business use only. I seem to never use the battery as I am always plugged in somewhere. It seems like if I have a long update on a slower connection like anti-virus or windows update the computer shuts down after awhile. I am thinking these updates are not finishing. I would be working on my business and my connection would be very very slow. They suddenly it would spead up to a good usable speed. I noticed that after I got a message that an update had finally finished that matched me finally being able to work. I want to know how to keep Vista from shutting down and allow updates and downloads to complete while I am asleep so when I am at the computer I can work. I have a ton to learn.

For some reason when I run my computer from work it runs extremely slow. The the only difference I can see that could be affecting it is that at home I use wifi to connect to the internet. I'm always connected to the internet. At work there is no wifi, and not connected to the internet. Could it be trying to do something online, but since it cant connect, keep trying and trying and trying slowing everything down? To fix it I have to restart it. This seems to do the job, however I'd rather not have to do this every time. At home this never happens. I never have to restart it to get it to move faster. And this happens EVERY TIME at work.

A friend found out that I have a Vista computer so he brought me his wife's computer to find out why it is so slow. I have no problems with mine but this Vista Home Basic PC is ungodly slow. Just to open an Explorer window takes over 90 seconds. I scheduled a checkdisk and ran it on the next reboot. I defragged and ran the disk cleanup wizard. I downloaded and reinstalled the ATI video drivers after seeing an eror message about ATI. It is slightly faster but not enough to make any difference to the user. Where do I find the diagnostics, or logs or something that can tell me what is slowing it down so that I can fix it? I couldn't find a diagnostic on the eMachine site. My last option will be to reformat and start over but I'd rather not do that if there is a way to fix it instead. It's an eMachine with only 512 MB RAM, but it did run much faster when new. Intel Pentium 3.0 GHz, 160 GB HDD. Also the wireless card is very slow, but the wired connection is pretty fast for downloading.

Dell Studio Laptop running Windows Vista Home Premium. Home wired & wireless network with Wireless N D-Link router, Netgear ReadyNAS duo wired to router, PS3 game console connected to router. I only use wireless from my laptop. When I try to move files around on the NAS using windows explorer, I can't seem to browse the NAS' content for more than a few minutes, then explorer locks up or enters a mode where it keeps refreshing the view of the network directory and doesn't allow basic file operations like right-clicking on a file to get its properties.
I can't get more than 1 Mbps of transfer speed with Robocopy out of the NAS. I have some video files on the NAS unit. Double clicking on any video to play it in Media Player is the worst thing to do - WMP doesn't manage to download enough data to buffer it and never allows to be shut down. I prevents Windows from shutting down cleanly. I made sure I had the latest drivers for the wireless adapter.

Vista 64 home premium is suddenly very slow, too slow to the point of programs not even launching. When trying to start in safe mode with networking, got a "repair" notice and then it tried to do a repair, saying that the volmgrx.sys was corrupt. However, the repair reported that it failed. I tried a system restore, and after seeing the "system restore is initializing" for over 12 minutes, I hit the power switch. It will start up in normal mode, but the disk activity light almost never goes out and is on almost solidly. I tried to copy the volmgrx.sys from a sister machine (two were ordered at the same time from HP), and then found that even in safe mode with command prompt, the file was protected. Is there a another way to copy over that file, or is that a "custom-made" file during the first turn-on of Vista?

I am trying to connect via RDC from a Vista Biz machine to a Vista Home Premium machine. It is calling for my credentials and I can't find anything that will tell me what my credentials are supposed to be. All I can find in forums are questions about why Vista won't save them. I just want to know what they are. Neither machine is password protected, so what should I enter? The username for the Biz machine? The username for the Home machine?
Neither? What about the password? In any case, I am (of course) denied access with a message saying "Your credentials did not work".

Using my ISP (Roadrunner Carolinas) speed test site; I get around 200 to 400 kbps download speeds using IE in normal mode. If I boot to Safe Mode, I get around 3500 to 4500 kbps, which is what it should be (this is what I used to get in normal mode before I re-installed Vista). Running the same speed test with Firefox, I get around 1500 to 2000 kbps in normal mode, but if I try to download a file it ransfers at only the 200 to 400 kbsp rate (if I'm lucky). Here's more detail about the system and what I've done so far:
Installed all updates including SP2.
Using Windows Firewall, no anti-virus.
Updated network drivers directly from NVidia (Chipset is nForce750i)
Updated graphics card drivers directly from NVidia
Disabled all LAN protocols except for Client for Microsoft Networks and IPv4
Connected via ethernet cable directly to cable modem, no router.
I've deliberately refrained from loading anything but the basics until I can get this sorted out..........

I am having the worst problems connecting using a cable connection, which I need because as I am in Europe at the moment, many sites or private homes are not equipped with wireless. Now, when I connect with cable, everything seems to be working fine, the Toshiba connectivity doctor tells me I am connected, the diagnose program assures me that the problem has been resolved etc. etc. and yet whenever I try to connect (IE, Mozilla, Google, I have tried them all), I get an error screen. I have tried everything I could think of, checking my settings etc. Nothing works.
Let me emphasize that:
1) wireless connection works fine
2) it is a problem with my computer, not the host, since I have encountered
the same problem everywhere (libraries with password protected access,
private homes without password protected access etc.).

I have a strange problem. I have AOL broadband and I'd like to connect to the internet without using the infamous bloated AOL software. I know how to do that using Vistas' "set up connection or network" wizard and I can successfully log in using by username and password. The problem is the connection is very poor when I use this method. The speed tests show the correct speed and downloads are full speed but pages seemingly randomly do not load (for long stretches of several minutes). For example my home page does not load ("page cannot load" error), google does not load, some pages load but not fully with many errors.
This isnt a browser issue (I tried firefox, IE, chrome), this isn't a modem/router issue (I have a laptop that works fine with a permanently logged in router), it's not an AOL issue I can still log in fine with AOL software and then browse fine with firefox, it's not a hardware issue, and it's not a firewall issue (it's off). Therefore it must be an issue with the way windows connects to my modem when using the built in PPPoE broadband connection. I really have no idea what could be wrong. Maybe one of you do?

With Vista, I can get internet for my new Dell XPS laptop over the wireless connection without doing anything other than selecting the connection. No user name or password is needed. But to plug in directly into my cable modem, it does not work. Seems to require user name and password. But I use Verizon and a Motorola SB5101 modem and while it is broadband, I did not think it is pppoe. I don't even know of any user name or password for my account. Am I wrong, is all broadband pppoe? My internet connection works just fine without asking for pppoe login info when I use my desktop with Windows XP. So, it seems to Vista specific problem.

Problem:
1) Extremely slow shared printer response
2) application nonresponsive while printing
Network Topography:
1 Vista Home Premium 32 PC
1 Vista Home Premium 64 PC
Cisco SD2008 Switch
1 HP 4050 Laserjet (Parallel connected to Vista 32 Machine above)
Configuration of Printer:
Connected via parallel to Vista 32 machine
Printer is configured for sharing and is installed on both machines
test pages print successfully from both machines
Additional notes:
During printer setup on the Vista 32 machine, I attempted to install
additional 64x drivers, but could not locate them, so I skipped this step.
During printer setup on the Vista 64 machine, the shared printers were
identified successfully, and I added the network printer. I was not asked to
install drivers the way I have in the past when adding a local printer.
Printing using the shared printer on the local machine Vista 32 performs
with normal speeds. Printing from the network computer Vista 64 using the
shared printer installed on Vista 32 is extremely slow. Even typing in print
job changes in the print dialog window takes 30 seconds or so for each key
stroke to register a response onscreen.

I just bought a new laptop a Dell XPS 1330, with Vista. And it is slow in launching everything. Once I'm in a program, it's usually okay, but it takes 5-10 seconds just to open the start menu, or switch between programs, or open a program is more like 20-30 seconds. It's even slower if I'm coming out of sleep mode, it never gets faster, I always have to boot even though I see nothing in the task manager. Is this the way it is supposed to be, and if not, how can I tell if this is a Vista problem or the laptop? My cpu runs at about 3% capacity and my ram is around 50 when no applications are open.

My HDD has 70% space remaining and its defragged. I have fast AVG antivirus and when I try to open a new folder, let's say my documents folder, it opens it fast but its all blank white and it keeps loading for like 3-5 seconds and then the contents show up. What's wrong? I expect an immediately folder content showing up especially when I have 3.55 GHz quad core and 8800 GTX T_T

under enabled section look for "SSVHelperClass"(java plugin add-on) and highlight then click disable button.
