When I start my Vista Windows Mail, it has recently has been warning me: "Avast! has detected a secure connection from your mail program (process WinMail.exe) to SMTP server 204.127.217.16 (att.net). This type of connection cannot be checked for viruses. Please disable SSL/TLS in your mail client so that the Mail Scanner can scan your mail. The mail scanner will provide the SSL/TLS security itself." Recently it has changed to : "The server you are connected to is using a security certificate that could not be verified. The certificate's CN name does not match the passed value. Do you want to continue using this server?"

I still am unable to use the outgoing feature of Vista's Windows Mail. I have updated Vista for possible fixes.Windows Defender is off. My internet security is Trend Micro Internet Security.
Here is the error message when Trend is connected: Subject 'Fw: 2007 NID DVDs', Account: 'jfklancer.com', Server: 'webmail.web.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC19. Here is my error message when Trend Micro Internet Security is not connected: The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'Fw: 2007 NID DVDs', Account: 'jfklancer.com', Server: 'webmail.web.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E,does not require a secure connection. I am experiencing is related to the lack of a security certificate for an email server from which I am receiving mail with Windows Live Mail. I want to know if there is a way I can suppress the warning message I receive from Windows Live Mail every time I start the application, or I can otherwise tell the program that this is a trusted server even though there is no certificate. Since I can simply dismiss the warning each time and receive mail I am looking for an automated way, short of requiring this server to install a certificate, to indicate to Windows Live Mail that this is a trusted server.

Every time I open Microsoft Mail I get the message below. If I answer Yes, the mail service works fine, but just for the rest of that particular session. The same thing happens on my wife's computer and on my Mom's. This is a genuine nuisance! I did a search in this newsgroup and found someone that was using Gmail and had the same problem
I suspect that the message refers to the e-mail server which in my case is sbcglobal, which in turn is a a service of Yahoo. Since Microsoft Mail obviously knows what the offending certificate is I assume that it has been logged onto my computer somewhere. Ques. 1, can anyone tell me how to find it (I am running Vista Business), and Ques. 2, can you tell me how to force Microsoft Mail to "accept" it as a valid certificate?

I've the following problem when attempting to export a e-mail client certificate. The associated private key is marked as not exportable? This happens after installing the certificate regardless the authority. I tried:
- Verisign: They don't know
- CaCert" tried to teach me the procedure I know already but does not work.
- Thawte They don't know
- Commodo: they don't know.
I'm not the only person having this problem, as "same problem here" is the only and frequently response in forums of the authorities. Is there, PLEASE, :-) someone who assumes nothing but just knows what is the problem with Vista? (and a possible solution)

A PC had Vista installed and one folder was encrypted by OS. This folder had some thousand or so files. Then Vista was reinstalled, with most old system files (including "Windows", "Users" and "Documents" folders) deleted before reinstallation. Encrypted folder left intact on HDD. Is it possible to get files from encrypted folder somehow decrypted under newly installed copy of Windows? Username and password for Windows account used to encrypt folder are known. Utilities like Elsomsoft's EFS recovery could not do much - when account password have been supplied utility said that it can decrypt about 90 files in total with no hint on why specifically these files can be decrypted and not others.

Every time I boot into Vista I get a window that pops up saying "The publisher could not be verified. Are you sure you want to run this software? Name C:Windowssystem31startup.exe". I have already tired unchecking the "always ask before opening this file" box and clicking "run" so that it will just automatically do it every time???..but alas, when I restart it still pops up asking me if I should run it or now.

From what I am told, Cisco VPN client will not work with Vista and it is Microsoft's fault. Can you shed some light on this? Cisco is pointing the finger at MS, but it is their software that is causing the problem. My computer is running the concistency check. It's at stage 3 and when it's almost complete it's starts to "replace invalid security Id with default security id for file ******" it's been doing this for a while now and I was wondering what I can do to speed it up. It's currently at 170000, and if I try to restart the computer the login screen will not load if I skip the disk check.

This computer is new to me and so is vista - I have had no problem with email because I have always gone to my own ISP via explorer. Today, however, I wanted to reply to a craigslist seller and found that my computer was trying to send the email with windows mail (and not sending!)- it was asking me questions like who my outgoing server and incoming server is - can anyone tell me what I need to do? Since i built my computer I have been having fight with other family members over the internet as our router broke and we have to plug right into the modem (only one can connect at a time). Today i purchased a 8 port 10-100mbps network switch (Buying a router is not possible at this time) I connected the modem to the switch, then my computer and then the home computer. When i connected on my computer, everything was fine (I have vista ultimate x64 sp2.)
I then disconnected and connected the home computer (xp Pro sp3) Everything worked fine. Then I came back to mine and tried to connect and after a bit of waiting i got the message "Error 815" and that the server is not responding. When I do the opposite and connect my computer and then try connect the xp computer, I get the message "Error 676 the line is busy." I can browse both the computers files through network as long as I have the other computers password.Does anyone know a solution to my problem so that both computers can be online at the same time e.g. a shared internet connection from vista pc to xp pc or connect to the internet through the other computer and vice versa? P.S Both computers have kaspersky internet security but i tried disabling them and it still didnt work

This is not causing any problems, I just don't know why. I have an i7 on a Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5, gigabit Linksys switch, Norton 2008 firewall, Vista 32bit, and 3 PCs (Vista, Vista, XP) in a LAN. Vista doesn't seem to think a LAN/switch is a real network? I can see all of the other network PCs, connect to the internet (DSL) thru a switch connected Linksys wireless router, share files, and printers; but it's bugging me.

I'm desperately trying to solve a network problem with Vista to a internet provider.
Nearly brand new PC with nVidia Forceware ethernet controller. After booting the PC, the network ICON in right bottom bar becomes blue. For 1 - 2 seconds the blue bell is visible, then disappears. It shows the PC is connected locally, but not to internet. According to IPCONFIG/all required IP addr, DNS, Default GW etc is set
correctly.

I went home for the Christmas break and I am trying to get my laptop to connect to the network back at my house. I set up a wireless network through the main computer and have found nothing but problems. The main computer is running XP and I am running Vista. Now, the problem is my computer will detect there is a wireless network available but it will not connect. It let me enter in a password to connect but it tells me there isn't enough strength to connect. This makes no sense due to the fact that it will display 90% network strength.

route 1: NIC 1 -- Internet (preferred Internet connection)
route 2: NIC 2 -- Switch -- Linux Cluster -- Internet (preferred LAN connection)
|-------(Printer, NAS, etc)
The linux cluster is consisted of some RedHat workstations, all of which are connected to the internet independently, but one of them (the frontend) also distribute IP and does NAT for the LAN. Also connected to the switch include some network resources, and this Vista machine..........

I'm re-posting this because it is only visible online at the MS website, not on NewsReaders so.... (I'll try again)...I just installed a D-Link DIR-625 router, before, we had a Linksys router with no issues whatsoever. (This is in secure WPA mode, there is no problem in "unsecure" mode) My sons PC has Vista installed. He has a D-Link wireless usb adaptor. Before, with the Linksys router, hookup was as would be expected, find the SSID, click, a prompt for passphrase, sweet. Now what happens is this... I right click the network icon in the taskbar and select "Connect to a network" a list of available networks shows.( as usual) I click our SSID and a different message appears than before, instead of getting the usual prompt for a simple passphrase, I get a "Windows needs more credentials to connect to this network", I click it and then a window appears prompting for...

this is not an option suitable for the usual WPA Personal encryption, first off there is no user name, no domain, its just WPA personal, TKIP,passphrase... what can I do? like I said it connects fine if no encryption is used. and it worked fine Lo these last 2 years with a Linksys WRT54G I'm not very familiar with Vista, I'm an XP man myself (I and my wife have XP, router installed on mine)(My wife has windows XP with a Linksys adaptor and it works fine so I know it is a Vista conflict)

I have a printer connected via USB on my desktop computer running vista Ultimate 32bit and I have a Laptop running Home Premium 32bit it sees the printer cause its there on the printer's folder but when I try to test a print page from the laptop it says its being sent to the printer but nothing prints out. I know it works cause it worked when my desktop had XP PROFESSIONAL installed which was like 3 weeks ago. My desktop prints fine. I just need the laptop to print. By the way Im sharing the printer from the desktop
