Cannot Turn On Security Center
Mar 1, 2009My pc was infected a virus recently and it blocks me from turning my security center. I went through a virus scan and deleted it successfully but somehow I still cannot turn on the security center. How could I do to solve this?

May 17, 2010I m running Windows Vista Home Basice Off of a Compaq presario CQ40 Notebook PC 32-bit OS. I was using my comp on wireless internet, turned it off and when i came back to it my firewall all of a sudden was busted. I have gone into Windows Security Centre and it comes up with the four options, Firewall, Automatic Updating, Malware Protection and Other Security Options. Now Firewall says Off. Automatic updating says Off. Malware protection says Check Settings, and Other is OK!. Now I click on the option under firewall to turn it on and it comes up saying Security Centre can't turn on windows firewall. Now underneath that it says turn it on manually, so i click that and i get another screen with a warning box saying "Windows Firewall is not using the recomended settings to protect your computer.
To the right of that there is an update settings now button, i click that and im sent to a Windows needs your permission to continue screen where i select continue. Now i get a screen saying Windows firewall was unable to make the requested updates. Also since this has happened my Optus wireless internet wont connect which means no internet access on that notebook, and now my iphone is not detected by itunes............

Jun 13, 2008When I start up my computer, there is a pop up that says that Windows Firewall is turned off. I click the button to turn it on and then a screen pops up that says "Security Center cannot turn on Windows Firewall." I then click on "Turn on Windows Firewall manually." It then says that it isn't using the recommended settings to protect my computer. I click "update settings now" but then it says that it was unable to make the requested updates. I use Windows Vista and I've had my computer for a year now. This only happened the other day and I have Symantec installed as my anti-virus program. How can I turn Windows Firewall on again?

Nov 2, 2007Running Windows Vista Ultimate. Display turns off after about fifteen minutes regardless of whether I am actively using the computer or not. The only way to turn the display back on is to close and then open the lid. This disconnets me from AOL, so I have to sign back on again, and if I was emailing, I might lose my current email. Under Power Options, I have 'Turn off the display' set to Never for both On Battery and Plugged in. Under 'Put the computer to sleep' I have both On battery and Plugged in set to never. Nonetheless, the display still shuts off while I am working. What do I need to do to prevent the display from turning off at odd intervals?

Aug 10, 2009I have an old-school program that creates its directory at a hard-corded directory in C's root (C:xxx). Now, I don't want to run it with administrative privileges, I changed the directory's security permissions to (everyone - full control) and make them inherited to all its sub-directories. The program reads & writes fine with existing files. But the program creates a c file inside its directory and tries to let a C compiler on a network drive compile it. That 92s when the problem comes in. It creates the c file all right, but the c compiler cannot read it (saying =93permission denied=94). If I turn UAC off, I don 92t get errors, but I don 92t want to turn it off.
