I have scanned documents and tried to "open with" Works word. It tells me that it cannot open it or the file may be corrupt. What am I doing wrong. (Vista home premium--Canoscan LIDE 70) I have been trying for months.
Last night my daughter scanned a document into word 2003 on our new VISTA machine. When she took it to work, she could not open the file on her XP computer. Is there anything we can do to enable this??
When trying to open standard Word documents in Windows Mail I am getting a message 'this file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an assocition in Set Associations Control Panel'.
I receive a message that states "this file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the set Assoc control panel". This started after getting my new computer and changing from using Microsoft Outlook Express with Windows XP to Windows Mail with Vista.
I checked the file associations. If I set a file extension of .doc to Microsoft Word (2007) instead of Microsoft Works Word Processor, the a file with .doc will not open but will open under Works Word Processor. This only occurs will email attachments. I don't have any problems if the attachment is saved from another computer to a jump drive and then try to open it on my computer.
My husband got a computer about the same time that I did and he doesn't have this problem but he also doesn't use Windows Mail either (He reads his emails from the internet - Yahoo). I used Outlook Express before and didn't want to lose any of my old documents.
I have installed Works Suite 2006 in my Vista Home Premium computer. Everything works fine apart from Word 2002. I am unable to open Word by clicking on document files. If I double click on a document file in Explorer nothing happens. If I right click and select Open With, and then click on wordicon, nothing happens. I am also unable to launch Word from the Works Suite program launcher. I can open Word, no problem, and it appears to work fine, but to edit a document I have to search for it from within Word, which is often inconvient. I have un-installed the suite, and re-installed it, but the problem still persists.

Computer is just a year old, came with Works installed. For some unknown reason the problem began: could not open document files with Works. This worked in the past, but suddenly I could not open these files.
How can I get my browser to choose the spread sheet from Open Office instead of Microsoft Works' when trying to open an XLS file? As it stands the latter automatically opens it.Windows Vista Home Premium SP2, 32 bit and IE 8.
The reason: the file doesn't open properly as is, IOW a calendar shows up in sections of four and incomplete as such.
I am trying to install Works 4.0 to a compter with Vista Home premium, and I get a message that says " can't open setup exe. file." Is Works 4.0 compatible with Vista?
I am having issues with Excel - when I create a spreadsheet, it prints fine on any computer running Vista, but when I send the file to anyone not using Vista, the margins are incorrect and the document prints on 6 pages instead of one - no matter how I have it formatted.
how I can get a .wps file (MS Works) to open directly in Windows Mail? I have the file association configured and everything works perfectly if I first save the attachment to a folder then double-click it, but it is annoying to have to do this.
A friend had the same problem with .pps files (Power Point) which would not open directly in Windows Mail even though she had the Power Point Viewer installed and a proper file association. There was a a registry edit on the Microsoft site that fixed that nicely and I am hoping that someone knows of something similar for .wps files.
I`ve just uninstalled the trial "microsoft home office and student" from my computer because the trial had run out and I didn`t want the program because its very expensive, on my old computer I always found "works" did me fine, but I can`t open the documents that are attached to my e-mails connected with my job, before I uninstalled "word" they were opening okay in that program but because the trial had run out I couldn`t save them, print them or copy and paste them, I was hoping the attchments would open in works like they did on my old computer, but I get a message that says "create an association in the set association control panel" what is that!?
A friend has word processor files with the extension .wps created in Works 4 in Win95. He has bought a new computer with Vista loaded. He says he's unable to get Vista (I think he said Works 9) to read these old files. How can he convert them
When I open windows explorer in either XP or Vista it opens the "My Document" folder as the default. However I only want "My Computer" to be expanded and everything else left unexpanded.
Whenever I try to print something from the web, I get a 'Save file as' window that shows 'File name *xps' and File type 'XPS Document'. I cannot delete them and I am unable to print because of it.
Can anyone help me?
I have tried Search for xps and get no answer, i.e. it is not shown as being in the computer. I am completely baffled on how to get rid of it.
I was working on my 39th page of a txt document opened by wordpad when by accident I deleted most text and hit save, I tried recovery didnt do anything. I am using windows vista premium edition how can I get my work back?
Yesterday, I opened a document (Office Student 2007) from my e-mail account on the web (not Outlook)
I clicked "Save" repeatedly throughout the day and was never prompted to select "Save As" and when I X'd out, it did not say "Are you sure you want to close without saving?" so, I assumed all was well. However, when I went back to open it, it wasn't there. I searched all the folders, hidden folders, temp internet files, etc. but cannot find it!
I was clicking "Save" so it has to be saved somewhere, right?
I have two documents in the same folder - one an odt document created with Open office and one a doc document also created with Open office but saved as a .doc format. Both were edited and saved today. If I go into the folder using Windows Explorer both show a modified date of today, 9th June. If however I do a SEARCH for the document name (both have the same name), then the .doc document shows a Modified date of today, but the ODT document does not. It shows the Modified Date as the date of creation. Now why should that be?

This is the 2nd time this has happened. I was e-mailed a Word document (docx) vision. Opened the document, worked on it, used Ctrl S to save and cannot locate the saved document.
I sent a document to the printer. For some reason, it isn't printing. So, I've deleted the document from the Printer window. And nothing else will print, because it's sitting there blocking the queue. How can I get Vista to delete that document from the print queue?
Cannot see a Win 7 MS newsgroup so I thought I would ask here, When I use Start Computer I can see all my drives such C: D; the card reader slots and the external hard drive. All but one of these display with an icon that look like a hard dive. But C: display a document icon - rectangle with top right corner folded and holding a 'window' with 6 coloured circles. Any reason you this should be? It is not causing any errors I can detect but looks odd Windows Home Premium 64-bit on an HP computer
Presently my Windows mail opens documents in WordPad, however aii documents come in scrambled this way and I can't read them. Is there a way to change how Windows Mail opens my mail (not WordPad)?

I got a new computer with Vista I am trying to set up my fax. Help told me to go to Start, All Programs, Windows Fax and Scan but there is no Windows Fax and Scan on my menu. What can I do?
I'm using Vista Ultimate with Fax and Scan. It won't recognize my Canone LIDE 30. All of my other programs that use the scanner do recognize it. I am looking for a sure thing ... a scanner that will work with Ultimate's Fax and Scan. I have heard that MS dropped TWAIN for this product and uses a different methodology.
I did have a network All In One but had nothing with problems using it with Vista. So now I'm thinking I'll just connect a scanner to the computer. I tried other software but I received a message that it couldn't access the modem because it was in use by another program ( not the case ).
I can't get WFS to successfully use the fax modem on my mobile phone over Bluetooth. The modem and Bluetooth connection are working fine outside WFS and I can successfully connect to a VPN over the internet using the mobile phone's modem via Bluetooth. I just can't think what could possibly be the problem. Has anyone else tried to set up their mobile phone as a fax modem over Bluetooth?
By the way, my carrier is T-mobile. I have already called them and they have confirmed that fax and data is enabled on my account. I'm using a Nokia 6233 but I don't think that should be relevant because I can already us the modem over Bluetooth to connect to the internet.
