I am trying to either remove or permenently stop IE from being accessed when I access the internet. I have another seach engine that I enjoy. Does anyone know how I can permenently end all threads to this program?
View 7 RepliesI have the 32bit version and the computer is no more than 2 weeks old. I have a feeling this may be a virus I have always been very careful with what I do on the tinterweb and generally look after the computer as best I can. I have been using Windows Defender firewall and AVG antivirus and spyware.
I downloaded a file last night, placed it inside My Documents> Downloads. I now have reason the believe its a virus. All in all the computer runs like a dream, but since downloading this file, whenever I go into my Documents, my CPU speed jumps up to around 50% and stays there, then If I go into my Downloads file within my documents, my CPU speed shoots up to 100% and hangs there until the computer is restarted? The file that was downloaded is the only file within the Downloads file. I'm 99.9% sure that whatever it is, its causing this problem. If for example I just turn the machine on and dont access my Docs, it runs fine and only slows down when my Documents is accessed. The file that was downloaded is 10mb's, whenever I try to delete it, the dialog just comes up saying calculating time remaining and doesnt budge. I have scanned my docuemnts and no virus was detected by AVG, I just want to get rid of this file but dont know how!
I'm trying to set up a wireless network between my Vista x64 PC and an XP laptop. Both running the latest service packs and updates etc. Nothing fancy, just trying to share my collection of music and videos with the laptop. Now, on both machines I can see each shared folder, but can't access them all for some reason. On the Vista pc I'm sharing "Videos" and "Music", and both appear on the XP laptop; however, while Music is brows-able and working fine, for some reason Videos cannot be accessed. I've checked and both Videos and Music have the exact same permissions etc., so I can't figure out why one is accessible and not the other.

I have con into Microsoft support and tried to download a Stand Alone Installer-didn't work because I don't have Windows Installer. Tried to download Windows Installer Redistributables for Windows 4.0 I have done a search for Windows Installer on my entire computer It is not listed at all in the System Configuration Utility I am running Vista Home Premium 32 bit Service Pack 2
I would like to just start all over and take of my programs and re-load but I don't have a hard copy disk for Vista Home Premium. It was installed when I purchased the computer. I don't know how to go into the sytem boot areas so haven't touched that. I have been in the registry just didn't do anything as was unsure of what to fix to allow access on the right side.
Since I ran a software called "Registry Clean expert v4.56" I can no longer install oruninstall any application on mt VISTA Ultimate machine.I tried everything that was explained in the Microsoft forums, such as:- running MSIEXEC /UNREGISTER followed with MSIEXEC /REGSERVERWhen I run services.msc I notice that the Windows Installer service is set to MANUAL.I tried to setup to AUTOMATIC, rebooted the machine, but the problem is still there.

It seems an inappropriate for MS to place explanations in an area that cannot be accessed by all valid owners of a Windows OS. Such explanations should be moved back to the traditional pages where they can be accessed by all.

A similar user name was created to replace mine along with the Registry to delete these changes.I have hundreds of records indicating the changes but no clue where to go from here!The DOS window closes when i try "netstat" or any other attempt to view system. I do have screen shots showing the remote servers, etc I would like to not only clean up this mess but also to reveal the coward! My ex-web designer or ex-bfriend.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI am puzzled. The Indexed locations shown when I press the show all locations button are Microsoft Outlook Start Menu and Users. Only Microsoft Outlook is checked. I was trying out the search facility above the start button on Vista to look for a program and was very surprised when up popped a selection of files that are stored on an external hard drive that I use from time to time as a secondary backup. The files shown have not been accessed recently and at the time of the search the external drive was not connected. Hovering the cursor over the files told me that they were located on this external drive. why these files would have shown up on the search as I have not chosen to have the external drive indexed?

The first concerned a Scanner, where Add/Remove would not remove all the software, so that installation of the new Scanner is not possible, until a procedure recommended by the Scanner's makers involving modifications to the Registry is carried out, which I could not possibly do myself, so it means hiring a Professional to do the job!
The second concerns Spellex. Here again the old version has not been removed, so that installation of the latest version is not fully carried out, making the software useless. How can Microsoft produce Windows where such problems occur? What is the experience of others in case this is a fault with my computer?

But some pundits seem to have forgotten that when Microsoft initially granted Windows XP five more months to live, back in 2007, the company left itself a loophole. (And I don't mean just the early 2009 cut-off date it granted white-box vendors/system builders). Late last year, Microsoft officials said that vendors preloading Windows on PCs aimed at "emerging markets" wouldn't have to stop selling Windows XP until 2010.

Whenever I try to go to GMAIL the tab starts rapidly moving from "gmail"to "connecting" to "redirecting", and this moves very fast and continues until I manage to re start. How can I fix this ? I created a new user and I can Access GMAIL there but it's a pain to switch users just to access mail.info: vista 32 bit, google home page, gmail is default.

View 7 Replies View RelatedWhy is is so that ever since I have been running Vista Ultimate my HDD led runs almost non stop. I have disabled Superfetch, Indexing and Defrag just to name a few in a vain attempt to track down why this happens. It appears to be normal with some but not all Vista installations. Before Vista came along this sort of activity would ring alarm bells. The System and Performance monitor shows it is updating system files but why does it need to do it 100% of the time. Hard drives are NOT built with a 100% duty cycle in mind. I need some knowledgable person who knows the complete answer to this problem.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI installed Vista recently doing a fresh install. When i did it, it only had 1 drive visible when i have 2 of the same drives. In my bios i do not have the drives turned on to RAID i just have them in their naitive modes. I installed Vista and now it set up a RAID 1 all by itself. Has my C Drive as MIRROR[0][2] SCSI Disk Device. Now i want to stop this so i can use the other drive. Can i do this with out a reinstall? Or what would happen if i whipped on drive then plugged it back in , would this clear the other as well?
