I can sucessfully load up the game and all however whenever i try to join a multiplayer game(says "Joining Server... then crashes" or finish loading a single player game(after the textures are loaded or the shaders it just crashes) OR whenever i click audio in settings my game(right after i click audio it just goes boom) just crashes back to desktop with the BF2142.exe error. I've read about many different crashes with other people but this seems different, people have had crashes during map changes, splash screen, and a few secs after joining the server, havent seen anyone with my problem of crashing when i see the "joining server.." box.
I've tried
1)reinstalling/repatching
2)run the exe as admin.
3)disable UAC and reinstall/repatch after restart
Im pretty sure my computer can handle the game, my old one did fine and this one owns it. Im kind of lost, I've tried many things and this freaking game just doesnt want to work.

I installed SS2 on this PC (runs windows vista home premium 32bit), but sadly the game won't run correctly. I've looked around a little bit, and I see that not watching the videos is a common problem. But that's not my main problem <:/ I can run the game just fine for about 30 seconds... suddenly, it just freezes. The last sound is looped, and the mouse is frozen.

I've been using MS Windows since it's initial release years ago. Hard as it
may be to believe, there was a time when anything that ran on an earlier
version of Windows was guaranteed to run on the latest version. It's gotten
progressively worse over the years and now we have Vista, where anything
that ran on an earlier version is virtually guaranteed to go haywire.
If there's been some sort of improvement here, I fail to see it.

I recently purchased a new, loaded, Dell XPS laptop with Windows Vista Ultimate. As a systems developer and consultant, I frequently set my laptop up on a customer's network, expecting to browse those networks, and map network shares. With Windows Vista, I appears this utility has been taken away.
I recently downloaded and installed Vista SP-1, and the problem (deficiency)
persists. The only solutions I have found reccomend I should install LLTD on every XP machine with which I wish to establish network connections. This is impracticable because the general maintenance of those machines is not within
the scope of my work (nor always my control).................

I want to run Vista x64, but heard about some compatibility issues with some programs and actually need it for the 8GB of memory. I know Vista x32 will only read 3 GB Memory. What I want to know is there that many programs that will not run on x64? Should I stay with x32? I only have a few older programs like Lock-on Modern Combat and Flight sim X and want to run COD 4 and WaW. Will I be ok with this set-up?

Can anyone tell me if the old version 7 of Paint Shop Pro can still be used with Vista Premium? I don't need it often, but it seems a shame to have to pony up for a new program if it's not necessary.
Also, I have been unsuccessful in making my old, but perfectly functional, ScanJet 5300C work with Vista. Are there downloadable drivers available to accomplish this?

I have been trying to play 1602ad on Windows Vista and it needs to be run in 256 color mode. I have run the compatiblity wizard like everyone has told me to and it doesn't change anything. I have even gone straight to the application and told it to run in 256 mode and nothing happens game still won't work. Is there a driver or something I can download to get my monitor to display in 256. I have and generic PnP monitor.

I have just built a new PC and installed Vista Home Premium X64, basically, I am having a lot more software compatibility issues than I expected - some with programs I require for work purposes and as such can???t be without. Microsoft are not allowing you to use your purchased Vista licence to temporarily downgrade to XP while the well publicised compatibility issues are addressed?

Anyone got the time to explain what the heck Vista "compatibility files" are all about? In my case I installed a older piece of software (maybe a couple of years old) on my laptop runnibg Vista Basic Home, the program installed and runs ok, but when I went take a look in the program's folder , there were files that should have been that are not listed, then I noticed listed on the menu where Organize, Views, Burn options are located another option called Compatibility Files, so being the seek and ye shall find kind of guy I clicked on the "compatibility files" folder and there were the missing files.

I am currently having problems resizing pdf files when viewing them in acrobat reader 8.0. Basically, the window will resize, but the content that I have opened will not. I am using windows vista ultimate x64.I have installed the reader normally, and I have also tried installing it under xp service pack 2 compatibility as an administrator. Additionally, I have tried running the reader in normal compatibility mode and xp sp2 compatibility as an administrator. I have also tried the foxit reader 2.0, which resizes the content, but seems to require a lot of cpu to do so and doesn't display the content as clearly as adobe's reader.Any workarounds, or other pdf reader recommendations?

I am not sure if the issue of 'Vista compatibility' & KVM switches is a relevant one. (One KVM vendor I contacted claimed KVM's functioned independently regardless of the operating system). I would like some reassurance because:
1. I will soon be installing Vista Ultimate 64-bit on a new PC
2. I run two W2K PCs thru an old Belkin, PS/2, KVM switch ("OmniCube 4-Port") that has never been a problem but I'd like to replace it if it might become an issue with Vista.
3. The Microsoft Vista-ready hardware listing does not appear to include KVM switches
4. Belkin Tech Support has failed to reassure - their responses to my inquiries has been mixed & less than a clear 'yes' or 'no' (a Belkin tech agt.has indicated their USB models have Vista issues)
5. I did discover that zonenetusa.com posted a Vista-ready list for their components & they claim their model KVM3304 - a PS/2, 4-port KVM - is 'Vista-ready' - (That is reassuring but do I need it?)
can any Vista hardware guru advise if PS/2, KVM switches represent any relevant Vista 64-bit compatibility issues? If so, can you suggest what options I have to prepare for a relatively painless installation that will continue to maintain my KVM setup?

i'm trying to play multiplayer on this game through a home network. when i create a game i cant find it when i search through another vista running computer it doesn't appear. when i run 2 XP running computers (which are no longer with us), it works fine through those (using a wi-fi connection) and through vista i have tried Wi-fi and ethernet connection, but still no luck. i have minimized the game to unblock the windows firewall for the network accessing, but still no luck. i tried running the game in compatibility mode in both 98/ME and XP and still, again, no luck. i should probably add that a few months ago i tried running it through 1 XP PC and 1 Vista PC and it didn't work on there either.

I'm using Vista Home Premiun SP1. After every startup, the Program Compatibility Assistant of Vista makes a window appear on the lower right corner (inside the system tray, near the time and volume icons) saying that the drivers of a certain program is not compatible with Vista. Actually, this certain program is running very nicely on my machine. So to prevent this annoying pop-up window from appearing, I just want to turn off or disable Vista's built-in Program Compatibility Assistant.

I've used Vista (home basic) for a while now and there wasn't any serious compatibility issues with the motherboard. I reinstalled it a couple of weeks back, and ever since then, there's been an issue with shutting down the computer. Usually, if I select SHUT DOWN from the start menu, the computer doesn't shut down completely, but enters a sleepish/suspended mode. The red (busy/status) light doesn't flicker, but the fan and the green (power) light remains on. Also, I have a WD My Book (500Gb) connected, and usually it shuts itself down once the computer powers down. Now though, when the computer enters this "sleepyish" mode, the power light on the My Book switches from on to off every few seconds.
Oh and also, even before reinstalling Vista, I've never been able to WAKE the computer after putting it to sleep. It just becomes unresponsive to anything (mouse, keyboard - I've tried a lot of buttons) and I have to press the power button on the computer. The motherboard is P4R800-VM, manufactured by Asus. I'm using a Creative Soundblaster X-Fi Extreme Audio sound card, and a nVidia GeForce 6200 A-LE graphics card. I don't think they've got any conflicting issues.

Vista Business plus Office 2007 sometimes causes problems - particularly with Search/Replace - that MS cannot resolve. A friend uses Open Office on his XP machine for certain functions that create difficulties with MSOffice. Documents apparently move back and forth easily, retaining formatting. Have readers here had success with Open Office on Vista?

I recently overclocked my cpu from the stock 2.67 to 3.8
Bclk 194
cpu volt 1.4
Dram bus volt 1.50
Qpi/dram core volt 1.375
Temperature was fine
Which ran fine gave it a few tests (prime95) which was all good, but there was a problem with the sleep function if i did it a second time vista would not boot, i would just get a black screen, and twice when i turned the computer on it gave me a overclock failed message, if i restarted it all was good but i was unsure so now im running it stock.
i have been getting a few errors with various programs (java, call of duty 5, crysis) they have been crashing from time to time, the solution centre found a problem and gave me this message "This problem was caused by a compatibility issue between this version of Windows and a chipset in your computer. The chipset was created by Intel Corporation. The model name of the chipset that caused this problem is Intel QuickPath Architecture I/O Hub."...............
