Played Gamed Doesn't Look Many Options
Jul 29, 2009
Before I take the plunge, I like to have a little background history on this. I like tactical games but I dislike Non-User friendly games. I played it for a few moments at a friends house but didn't like it much because of the fact that it had WAY to many key binding options that look like they were very similar to each other.
Of the few I remember were:
Aim Down
Aim Down Toggle
Zoom In .....
To me they should all do the same but if they don't, doesn't it look like to many options? I mean, once I zoom in, I want to be able to use the same mouse/kb button to zoom out. Also, aim down is the same as zoom in... at least to me. Is the campaign worth this hassle? and believe me, its been a while since I have played a good FPS campaign so I am jonesing for something else at the moment that I will try almost anything.

I double click on a video clip, instead of opening windows media player 11 and playing it, vista ultimate sets it as the desktop background. I've even noticed it treats MP3's differently suddenly - when you try to open them, it displays the "Open With" box where you can select a program. Even after a selection, it doesn't stick and happens every time. The files have the WMP logo on them and everything I've checked has it as the default media player. The files WILL play if you right-click and "Open With". It just started doing this a few hours ago, media player got put on the back burner somehow.

Just installed vista x64 SP1 with all latest updates, installed latest Shark codecs and K-lite codecs. Have no problem playing video files in Media player, but the same video files are not properly played in MediaCenter. They blink from time to time. It looks like a problem with codec, but after installing Shark and K-lite codec packs the problem still the same. May be Media center gets different codec. How do I change it?
My second question is: How do you add extra programs to Media center in vista x64? In XP MCE 2005 you could just drag desired program to the start button and prop it there and it would end up in MCE. It doesn't allow to the same in Vista MCE. If you drag the program to start button it will open MCE, but you won't find the added program in MCE

Apparently Microsoft has "disabled" older codec's which prevents certain AVI's from playing in Vista. If you have Indeo 3.1x AVI's this hack might be useful. Ironically, Microsoft shipped with Vista all three dll's (the codec) needed to play Indeo 3.1x AVI's, so only this registry key is required to enable them. Intel Indeo was sold to Ligos. Ligos states the following:
"the 3.x video codec is no longer available nor supported"
Microsoft recommends that you convert older AVI's and not use this "deprecated" codec.
WARNING: this is a HACK and involves making a single REG_SZ string. If you do not know what the consequences of editing the registry are you should not attempt this. Use this HACK at your own risk and peril.
To this key, add this REG_SZ value

I'm in the process of transferring my Hi8 video tapes to my PC for safe keeping. The one drawback I see with the Hi8 tapes is that if the camcorder dies, so does my playback mechanism. To get the highest quality I'm creating AVI files, and each tape is approximately 13 GB of data. I'm capturing in segments around 3.3 GB each. Needless to say, I've filled most my PC drive space, including my 300 GB external USB drive. I'd like to back these files up to DVD as 'raw files' for future editing (as opposed to actually creating a DVD that can be viewed on a DVD player). I have Vista Home Premium, and XP Pro as OS options. I started just dragging the files to the DVD drive on my Vista and had some success, but for some reason it doesn't always work. how best to back these files up? I've looked at a couple backup packages but haven't seen anything that strikes me as what I'm looking for..

First off, when I go to Create a Restore Point, it always takes the system about 20-40 seconds before it gives me what I want which is C drive checked in the list to create a restore point on. It shows me all my USB hard drives and other partitions, none of which I ever want to choose to create a restore point on. Is there a way to choose to have only the C drive come up on this list of possible drives for restore points? (I assume this would be quicker, since it would not have to find all those other drives/partitions before showing me the C drive.)
Secondly, since I only have an 83gig partition for C drive with Vista (64-bit Home Premium) and programs using 43 gigs of that; so how much space do I really need for System Restore points? I know there is a page here on this forum somewhere for going into the system via Command and changing the amount of space allotted for System Restore. Should I leave the Default allotted space or should I change it to a smaller amount? (My computer came shipped with a 700+ gig C drive but I shrank it to 83gigs and the rest is for just archiving, with a special partition for ripping and burning and decoding files.) Third: Where are the System Restore point files or whatever they are stored?
Fourth: Aside from manually creating a Restore Point via System Protection, is there a way I can make it create a Restore Point once a day at a particular time? I think it creates one at startup every day (I'm not sure, but I seem to recall that it does this), but is there a way to tell it, say, to create one every day at 5pm, or something like that in addition to creating one at start up? Or would that require too much disk space alloted to it? (I have a big hard drive, but I'd just as soon not junk it up with an excessive amount of System Restore space.)

Back in November, I explored the number of editions of Windows 7 that Microsoft was working on. While the company has not officially given a list yet, it was clear that Windows 7 Enterprise Edition and Windows 7 Ultimate Edition were definitely coming. Furthermore, there was an obvious avoidance of naming a Windows 7 Business Edition, though there was a mention of a Windows 7 Small Business Edition. While doing a little more digging, I stumbled on the following upgrade paths for Windows Vista to Windows 7. These are not confirmed, but I am told they are what Microsoft is currently considering: Windows Vista Home Premium Edition => Windows 7 Home Premium Edition Windows Vista Business Edition => Windows 7 Professional Edition Windows Vista Ultimate Edition => Windows 7 Ultimate Edition Full Story: Rumor: three options for upgrading from Vista to Windows 7

Is there an easy way to add WinDVD9 to my autoplay choices for Blu-Ray and regular DVD's in Vista x64? For some reason its not listed as an option and I can't figure out how to add it on my own. I know I can always cancel autoplay and launch the App and then open the DVD that way but would be nice to figure out how to set it up so it shows as an option in my Autoplay list.

I have tried to have files open in a uniform way, I have not been able to do this with the Windows Vista Control Panel. Under "view" I would prefer a "List" rather than large or medium sized Icons. I have tried checking various boxes under Folder Options but have not been able to standardize a list view.

I have Windows Vista with Windows Mail. When I click on Tools, a windows comes up and shows several tabs. I have gone to the Send tab to uncheck a couple of things I do not want operating. I notice that the window is quite large and I cannot see APPLY and OKAY. Consequently, I cannot have any of the options that I chose unchecked. Once I move out of the Options window, everything goes back the way it was. I thought I could minimize the size of the Options window, but no go on that. how I can get to Apply and Okay on this window?

I have about 50 gb of data, and few video clippings also. My data mainly consists of my precious photographs that I clicked all thoroughout. I was thinking about online backup. Will that be reliable?

I have an issue with Vista Ultimate x64 running on an AMD Athlon Duel core 4200+ system This is a brand new fresh install (2nd time). When I install and start the windows experience index calculates as per normal, but as none of the graphics drivers are loaded the score is very low. So I install all the correct drivers and try and update the score - nothing the option to refresh the score has gone. I get a screen that says "Rate and improve your computer's performance" but nothing else. I have flushed the stats folder and reset everything.

In XP I always use theWindows Explorer Details view and I could quickly sort files in ascending or descending order by Date. That was extremely helpful when copying and/or backing up files in one folder. However, in VISTA it seems as if I can only Group Files by Date. Am I missing something? Or can I actually sort files by DATE in ascending or descending order? Also, once I set up Windows Explorer the way I like it [Details View], how do I make that the default for all windows?

The computer failed to boot in the first place because of a thrid party service, normally I disable the service in safe mode but now the recovery options seem to be getting in the way.

is there a way to make a script on your G15 keys for the different options on your Nano Suit? Hopefully there is or you guys can point me to the right direction. Right now, I am using the "ALT" key to open up the Suit Menu and from there, I pick my mouse to the different choices you have (Strenght, Armor, Cloak, Speed or Weapon) but, in a heated battle, I would love to use some of the other key my G15 has for a quick use of any of these choices w/o wasting valuable time. I could do with the Sci-Fi Alien part of the game or the need to hit the KPA a few times before they die, but for the most part, the game is fun and it makes for a good laugh when you try to kill a KPA from a distance with the suppressor.

When I used to change my wallpaper I had 5 options to fit the image to the screen, cant remember them exactly but they were something like; Stretch to screen, fit horizontal, fit vertical, centered, and tiled. Why is it now that I only have; Centered, Tiled and stretch to screen?
Was this an update because this is really annoying!? It was much easier to fit the wallpaper to screen without stretching it when I could fit horizontal and vertical? Why can I not do this now?

A friend of mine has a Vista Home Premium system. He shut down the other night and now he can't log in to windows after boot. Since he has only one password and he never changes it, I'm guessing he knows it. Something has gone awry with his password on his system. He has no other accounts, and the built-in Admin is not enabled, so I'm thinking that his only option is a linux boot and reset password
trick.
