how to remove the connection limit ms imposed on us so i can use utorrent properly? I know there are some sites that tell you how to do it but id rather hear from someone on these forums so i know im not messing my system up. Is there a way to limit how much time a user can be using the computer each day? I've got the parental controls set up to limit when, but I'd also like to limit how much of that time they can use. If not, are there any free, simple programs out there? Everything I find is much more than I need - controlling what the user does, managing the time the users can use the PC, etc.

I have a GMail account with in the region of 24,000 messages but on a day to day basis, I'm only really interested in the most recent few hundred. Archiving isn't a solution as there are filters involved and an archived message with a filter applied is still in that filter, certain filters are up to thousands of messages as well. A most recent 200 messages option would be fantastic.

Under Local Computer Policy click or expand Adminstrative Templates next click or expand Network then click on Qos Packet Scheduler (remember dont click on the expander here just click on Qos Packer Scheduler) Now double click Limit reservable bandwidth (You will see Not configured which is the default settings but in reality Vista has already taken 20% of your bandwidth to reserve for updates and stuff like that.) Now click on Enabled then in the Bandwidth Limit (%) set it to 0 then click apply then reboot. tried it and it does work. no big dramatic gain but it works

The first concerned a Scanner, where Add/Remove would not remove all the software, so that installation of the new Scanner is not possible, until a procedure recommended by the Scanner's makers involving modifications to the Registry is carried out, which I could not possibly do myself, so it means hiring a Professional to do the job!
The second concerns Spellex. Here again the old version has not been removed, so that installation of the latest version is not fully carried out, making the software useless. my computer is not holding it's internet connection, even when i refresh it just wont reconnect and i end up having to restart and then the connection is fine. View 9 Replies View RelatedI am having the worst problems connecting using a cable connection, which I need because as I am in Europe at the moment, many sites or private homes are not equipped with wireless. Now, when I connect with cable, everything seems to be working fine, the Toshiba connectivity doctor tells me I am connected, the diagnose program assures me that the problem has been resolved etc. etc. and yet whenever I try to connect (IE, Mozilla, Google, I have tried them all), I get an error screen. I have tried everything I could think of, checking my settings etc. Nothing works.
Let me emphasize that:
1) wireless connection works fine
2) it is a problem with my computer, not the host, since I have encountered
the same problem everywhere (libraries with password protected access,
private homes without password protected access etc.).
I have a strange problem. I have AOL broadband and I'd like to connect to the internet without using the infamous bloated AOL software. I know how to do that using Vistas' "set up connection or network" wizard and I can successfully log in using by username and password. The problem is the connection is very poor when I use this method. The speed tests show the correct speed and downloads are full speed but pages seemingly randomly do not load (for long stretches of several minutes). For example my home page does not load ("page cannot load" error), google does not load, some pages load but not fully with many errors.
This isnt a browser issue (I tried firefox, IE, chrome), this isn't a modem/router issue (I have a laptop that works fine with a permanently logged in router), it's not an AOL issue I can still log in fine with AOL software and then browse fine with firefox, it's not a hardware issue, and it's not a firewall issue (it's off). Therefore it must be an issue with the way windows connects to my modem when using the built in PPPoE broadband connection. I really have no idea what could be wrong. Maybe one of you do?
With Vista, I can get internet for my new Dell XPS laptop over the wireless connection without doing anything other than selecting the connection. No user name or password is needed. But to plug in directly into my cable modem, it does not work. Seems to require user name and password. But I use Verizon and a Motorola SB5101 modem and while it is broadband, I did not think it is pppoe. I don't even know of any user name or password for my account. Am I wrong, is all broadband pppoe? My internet connection works just fine without asking for pppoe login info when I use my desktop with Windows XP. So, it seems to Vista specific problem.

All the software is updated with the latest "definitions"
2 firewalls (1 windows firewall, 1.with the router)
Do I need more software like that to be safe?
I think this is too much software installed to just take care of virus and spyware threats. For it seems like virus is not soo big problem any more. Soo I am wondering isnt it possible to for Microsoft to make something "supersmart" to get rid of spy ware??

I plugged in my Toshiba USB hard drive when I first got my computer about a week ago, to transfer programs and files to the new computer.
Now, for the past several days I have tried to remove it and I keep getting the message, "cannot safely remove it because it is in use"!
It is NOT in use as far as I know. In fact today I started my computer and did not even access the drive at all yet I get the same error from "Safely Remove Hardware".
I have turned indexing off on the drive, on both partitions.
MS sent me a "Hotfix" via email but when I went to install it there were all kinds of warnings with it, basically telling me "use this at your own risk, we are not vouching for this being reliable!" So I was rather afraid to do it.
I don't want suspend, it does not even work. I do how ever want Hibernate. My Question is how do i remove suspend?

View 5 Replies View Relatedi can get to remove ddcDwwwW.dll wich in turn contacts some web server and downloads sevral other virus files. Tryied to remove it before internet was turn on but no luck. Got some files wich it downloads as soon as internet is there, but simply cant remove that host file. It slows down internet speed by 98% so online scanners cant reach it in time before it activated another entry for it.
And same with the virus program, since it is in the temp dir i tryied to only scan that dir but same result. When the scan was done after 5 sec for temp dir the file had made 112 new entrys linked to the file so it could not be removed. Every time u tries to simply delete it it makes some other crappy entry and resetts.. Virus program ref to utlrexue.dll and lvlpdtev.dll

I cannot remove a file called tahoma. I guess this is the font that Vista uses? I recently installed Left 4 Dead and later uninstalled it. There was one folder named fonts that didn't got deleted. It contained fonts like arial, verdana and tahoma. I managed to delete all of them in safe mode except tahoma.
I know that you shouldn't delete fonts that the system is using but there is something wierd because it's not in my "fonts folder" from the controlpanel. And the fonts that I deleted succefully (verdana and arial etc.) is still in that folder, tahoma is also there so that's why I'm guessing that I could delete that the tahoma font in my left 4 dead folder without it causing my system any problems.
