i recently downloaded a game named prototype. i was downloading it my computer randomly turned off. i turned it back on and it said it was downloaded on my computer and i could play it. i press the play the button and it says file missing. i tryed to uninstall the game because i was going to reinstall it but it doesnt let me because i have not fully downloaded it.
View 8 RepliesThey tell me to uninstall from the control panel. ie go to START,CONTROL PANEL,PROGRAMS etc. so i've highlighted it in the list-normally i would just click UNINSTALL but they tell me to only use the copy/paste method. How do i do this.? I only know how to copy/paste my registration key in to the initial download,never ever done it before so i'm not clear on how i do it while the title is in the list amongst everything else.

I went to compatabilty wizard and went through the process but I am still unable to open the game. I get a response that says "ths application can be launched with a relase version of Microsoft Windows 95/98/ME/NT 4.0/2000/XP/Server 2003" I have Windows 98 that I would like to install so I can play this game. When trying to install Windows 98 it states that it is not compatible with Vista. Can I uninstall Vista to install Windows 98?

I have tried going into the display settings and advanced settings then troubleshooting but my computer does not allow me to change it as the icon is grayed out.

can you tell me a way to uninstall Call of Duty other than through putting in the disk and pressing UNINSTALL or in the 'All Programs'? Because it just won't uninstall there: I press install and the window simply closes and nothing else. I was having problems installing a program (Berlitz German Premier) where the install would just disappear halfway thru the process. A program would not appear under my programs list but when I went to Uninstall an icon for uninstall of the Berlitz software appears for each time I tried to install it. However I get the following error messages (see attached document with screen captures) when I tried to delete it the traditional way.
When I use Windows Install Clean Up utility, the program is nowhere to be found on the list; thus I can't use that program.
Just got Vista (32). Battlefield 1942 expansion installed fine. runs for a second or 2 then crashes. Tried to reinstal, same thing. Came up with (game failed, game closing)?

A few programs still have 'uninstall' button available - those have 'installed on' showing. The rest (80+% of all)don't have 'installed on' values showing and don't have 'uninstall' button.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI can sucessfully load up the game and all however whenever i try to join a multiplayer game(says "Joining Server... then crashes" or finish loading a single player game(after the textures are loaded or the shaders it just crashes) OR whenever i click audio in settings my game(right after i click audio it just goes boom) just crashes back to desktop with the BF2142.exe error. I've read about many different crashes with other people but this seems different, people have had crashes during map changes, splash screen, and a few secs after joining the server, havent seen anyone with my problem of crashing when i see the "joining server.." box.
I've tried
1)reinstalling/repatching
2)run the exe as admin.
3)disable UAC and reinstall/repatch after restart
Im pretty sure my computer can handle the game, my old one did fine and this one owns it. Im kind of lost, I've tried many things and this freaking game just doesnt want to work.
I installed SS2 on this PC (runs windows vista home premium 32bit), but sadly the game won't run correctly. I've looked around a little bit, and I see that not watching the videos is a common problem. But that's not my main problem <:/ I can run the game just fine for about 30 seconds... suddenly, it just freezes. The last sound is looped, and the mouse is frozen.

Every game I play crashes, or fails to load at all, or gets into the game and crashes during map load. I have Vista Ultimate 64 installed. I have installed and re-installed the OS multiple times to no effect. I've downloaded all of the windows updates. During one of my first installs of vista, I was able to get in to games of codwaw, but then it would crash after about 5 secs.......
View 9 Replies View Relatedi can't alt-tab out of a steam game, counter-strike. it's never done this before, and i'm trying to think of what i may have done for this to occur, but nothing comes to me. the only thing i can do to get out of the game is by quitting the game itself, or ctrl-alt-del to task manager. when i go to task manager, it says that the "aero" theme of vista isn't compatible with the game. like i said, it's never had this problem before.

View 7 Replies View Relatedi've had vista 64 ultimate sp1 for awhile and decided to install call of duty 4, at the end of the install it wants to install dx9 and i think vista 64 ultimate has dx10 so i declined the dx9 install. when i try to run the game it wont run but calls for a file named D3DX9_34.DLL does anybody know the fix ?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have tried all the official and miscrosoft published instructions on uninstalling SP2 Release Candidate for Vista Ultimate (in my case 32 bit). I have tried with tech support. So I have really gone the extra mile. I have very compelling reasons to not perform a new installation because of lost set up programs and keys which are essential to my business. I do have backups which go back before the SP2 installation (Release candidate). Is there no way or does anyone have knowlege of maybe just the directories or files I would need to reinstall; to uninstall RC 2 for Vista ?

I understand that sp2 makes it say that, but my big question is that there is no way to uninstall sp2. Am I screwed when the final sp2 comes out? View 8 Replies View RelatedAt first the automatic update always tried to install the sp1 when i shut the computer down but it always failed, so i decided to download the service pack manually and install it cause i hoped problems with the windows calender, instant search(cant find anything)and the help&support would be solved. well they were not but not just that. right now every time i start the computer it tells me that i didnt activate my windows yet. so i have to type in the 25 number
long product key and wait for the online activation every time. really annoying. i tried almost everything uninstalling the update and many computer recovery tries but after uninstalling the update for like 1/2 - 1 h and restarting (without a activation needed) i tells me, sp1 was not uninstalled...............
I was having so much trouble with IE loading (it took minutes not seconds) that I switched to Foxfire in the summer. However I still have to use IE for certain client sites. It was taking forever to load but then seemed OK. Now not only does it take several minutes to load it also has a very slow response time when I click on anything. Sometimes I have to click on a web page menu item twice just to get it to recognize I clicked. It's not my mouse/touchpad. It's not my internet connection (blazing fast on another). I have tried so many tools/checkers. I've deleted cookies, files, history. I've deselected all add-ons. Just to click on HOME takes forever to be recognized that I even selected it. It gets worse. I can't even uninstall IE7. It's not under the control panel as a program OR not listed as a an update. I've tried going to MS website to try a fresh download but can only get a download for XP (I have Vista). Does anyone have any links?

Have been putting off the problem because my life has been too busy to really deal with it. However after taking my head out of the sand I am desperately trying to figure out what is going on. I have read a gazillion (give or take a few) discussions about this. I have tried to download another browser however I find that I can not download anything. It goes through the motions but I can never find anything on my computer even after doing a search. Some say it is IE8 and to uninstall this. I have looked and can not find any place to uninstall IE8..if in fact that is what I have. Everything I see just says IE..no number after it.
View 4 Replies View RelatedRecently I had a pretty bad virus on my computer. I sent it to someone and he removed various trojans and installed his recommended virus-protection softwares on it. It's not a result of him doing anything to it, as it was happening before, I assume as a result of the virus, but now when I log on, after typing in my password, it displays the 'welcome' loading screen for a ridiculously long time (about a minute), but then the screen goes completely black and all I see is my pointer. After another minute or two it actually loads the desktop.
Then there's Fraps and some other programs, which, before the virus, opened fine, but now asks for admin permission in order to open. What's even stranger is that it can't uninstall. When I start the uninstall process it just opens the 'uninstall' window and gets stuck there. My computer also seems to be slower than usual. Everything seems so messed up, should I just totally wipe my hard drive and reinstall everything? Most of my files are stored through Steam, which is mainly online, so I only have about 10 gigabytes of saved files to back up...
I loaded up a brand new install yesterday and installed all of this in the following order. I let windows install SP1 thru windows updates online. I normally use the 700+mb vistax64wave0.exe (5 language offline installer package). Everything was working fantastic with this, until...The very last thing I installed after everything SP1 + All windows updates were completely done was DirectX Aug 2008 Redist. Now my system is sluggish and my games run very slow and produce mouse lag which didn't exist until I installed this. My thoughts on this was, hey newer drivers and fixes are always better right? WRONG! What a nightmare every since I installed this directx aug 2008 redist. I need to know how to remove DX9, so I can use the web updater without affecting the DX10 aspect of the vista OS. Something that was packaged inside of the redist has caused me major software conflicts. I only updated directx for gaming, is it even worth it to update directx?

I can't play Quake wars enemy territory, can't play cyris, battlefield 2 demo won't work. All these are demo. Age of empires 3 and war chiefs work just fine.
in the games that don't work they will eventually lock up after a minute to 3 minutes. you also see tons of weird very fast moving lines all over the screen. not sure how to describe it. can take a screenshot if possible.
Temp is fine im sure as is ram etc.
is this a video card being dead issue or what could it be? i am guessing hardware cus this happens in more then one game and the same thing and it happens in both vista and xp. i have prebuilt with the pc it came with vista home premium sp1 64bit and i installed on the second hard drive xp sp3 pro and both oses and the same games have the same issues.
I installed newest nvidia 64bit drivers for vista and the issue still happened.
I'm totally clueless here. My guess is i'll have to take it where I got it for a replacement which is fine as i'm under warranty for 2 total years from when i bought this pc a few months ago.
doing a recovery on the pc doesn't help either. I'm also not running any software other then the game.
i don't have any other issues on the pc, just these ones mentioned in here.
I had a game I wanted ot make work but DEP kept stopping it so I turned off DEP by using the command prompt. bcdedit.exe/set {current] nx AlwaysOff and it worked. I then restarted Vista and all I get is a quick flash of a blue crseen and then two options, 1) Repair and 2) Start normally. I have restored to an earlier point, I have also tried safe mode, I pressed F8 and tried starting with last known working settings and also F8 then a repair option, opened a command prompt and tried reversing the command but it didn't seem to do anything.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI've downloaded StepMania onto my computer so that i can play DDR and I have a game pad and a USB converter too so I configured everything and I'm really having no trouble but when i play the computer is reading the arrows as an analog and not separate buttons this really isn't and issue except for when i am holding one arrow down and i press on the other it only reads one making double notes impossible.
so i went into the control pannel, went into game controllers, and it says that it is a 4 axis 16 button joystick and when i go to properties and press the arrows it moves the axes in the direction of whatever arrow i press and only moves one way when I press both arrows...so my prediction was correct...what i can't figure out though is how to program the pad to read as buttons instead of a joystick axes?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have my WoW installed on a separate partition, b/c I thought this would speed it up (something about the computer not having to look through ALL of its memory during game play). However, whenever my computer does ANYTHING else, I experience a 5-10 second lag in game play. I have a 2 Ghz dual processor and over 200 gigs of space on my main drive (the WoW drive has 15/30 gigs being used right now). Is the problem being caused by WoW being on a separate partition? if so, would removing that partition fix the problem? And can I do that without reinstalling WoW (WoW regularly updates with patches downloaded from the internet, which would take several hours to redownload and install).
