I've been using Vista and Windows mail since February with no problem. But today I encountered a problem. When I download my email, I get the first 5 or six messages over and over and get an error message that it can't receive the remaining 8 messages.
I have a problem in receiving e-mail,using either Windows Mail,Opera or Thunderbird.I can receive mail sent by local users(just a few miles away)but anything else cannot be received.I have no problem in receiving all mail using Virgin Web Mail.I am assuming that I must be using the correct configuration, otherwise how can I be receiving any mail at all?Oddly, the local mail I am receiving is all sent by home users, whereas the missing mail all appears to be from commercial organisations-is this significant?
I keep getting the following 2 messages & do not know what to do
Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account: 'mail.btinternet.com', Server: 'mail.btinternet.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F

My windows mail is linked with my website and up until about a week ago it was receiving my website mail with no problems. I then received a welcome email from windows mail and ever since, I have not been receiving my mail. I have checked this by sending a message to my self from my hot mail account and as I thought, it didnt arrive. I did not select ption to leave copy of messages on my website email account so have no clue if clients are trying or have tried to email me.
for several days I have been unable to send email though can receive ok. this error message appears: The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read the "I'm having problems sending e-mail" section.
I'm running MS mail on a vista 32 bit Toshiba laptop. I'm unable to send and receive mail to my wanadoo mail account. I receive the following messages

I cannot receive or send emails on Vista Windows Mail. This infuriating situation occurred exactly one month after receiving the new computer with Vista Home Premium already installed. My old computer is connected as a small network. When the problem initially occurred on 7th June it said "Receiving 1 of 8" but never did and after a while (1/2 to 1 hr?) I logged off and logged on again but to no avail. I thought maybe a big photo or something was coming in but nothing eventuated. I accessed my email via Optus Web Mail and saw that there was nothing there bigger than 493KB. The main error message I receive is Account: 'mail.optusnet.com.au', Server: 'mail.optusnet.com.au', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC19
I have telephoned Optus (Australia) 5 times but they insist it is a Windows Mail corruption problem. No one was able to tell me what this error message actually means. Another issue that may also be connected was when I downloaded a trial version of a home video editing programme. It cut the 30 day trial by about 8 days, finishing on June 1st. June the first I thought? Why June 1st? I asked on the forum but they could not explain why.
My PC is running on Windows Vista SP1 and I am using Windows Mail as my mailclient. Two of my colleagues have recently started using Outlook 2003 and Outlook 2007 respectively as their mail client (both of them running on an Windows XP SP3 PC). It happened several times already that I was only able to receive the text of their email messages, but not any attachments at all. Their attachments are Word documents and PDF files. It has never happened before when my colleagues were using OE6 as their default mail client
I am unable to send or receive email using Windows Mail. I get the following 2 error messages: The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'Rusten's Photo', Account: 'suddenlink.net', Server: 'suddenlink.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

I have Norton 360 and have disabled, then uninstalled and reinstalled, and tried other changes. Can anyone help me figure this out?
When I entered photos into new Vista machine, I entered many duplicates. (they were stored on multiple CDs. and often in duplicate). Is there a way to ask that duplicates be eliminated? Otherwise I have to manually go through hundreds of photos to delete.
what Windows Mail is doing with my Contacts File(s). When I create a new e-mail via "Create Mail> To:" I get a short address list with several duplicates. When I go to Contacts via the "Contacts" icon in Windows Mail I get the Contacts File I thought was the one Win Mail was using but it has many more entries (a good thing) and does not have any duplicates. I want Win Mail to use this Contacts File and get rid of the "old/leftover/??" file it is using. The good Contacts File is stored in C:>Users>Ken>Contacts. I don't know where Win Mail is gettting the other file. At one time I had my wife and I both receiving mail to my account. I have since set her up with a separate account.
Emails are sent and arrive in my Windows Mailbox fine. I then create a folder and drag them to that folder no problems. When I create a subfolder however, and start dragging emails into the subfolder I find that the 1st email is fine but every subsequent one has been corrupted. That is to say that in each case the email content is erased and replaced with a duplication of the 1st email in that subfolder. Go figure. The email titles don't change so if you open the subfolder you wouldn't realise what has happened.
It is only when you open each successive email that it becomes apparent that the content of every email has become identical. *Windows Mail folders: 1 email duplicates itself over all others in a folder, thereby erasing email content of all others* This was previously posted by two others and I have exactly the same problem.
In my "Windows Mail" folder there are regularly hundreds of messages that are unopenable and they seem to be duplicates of messages in other folders under "Local Folders" that are easily readable. What are these messages and how can I get rid of them? There are several thousand of them on my wife's computer and I don't want to get that kind of clutter on mine.
I am running Windows Vista Ultimate x64, and I have a strange problem with the "Documents" folder. I noticed that all of the Files present in my Documents folder are also present in the "Users" directory. Along with them and a few hidden folders is a folder called "Mitch" (my windows logon name). Now, I know that there should be this folder in here, but why are all these other Documents files outside of it? When I go into Mitch there is another Documents folder (alongside Videos, Pictures, etc) which contains all of those same files. And in this one there is another Mitch containing another Documents containing these files again! However there is no Mitch folder inside this last one, so it isn't an infinitely recurring loop of shortcuts.
Now, you might think that these are just shortcuts, but I have checked and there are definitely *three* copies of these files taking up space on my computer...............

Since changing to a new ISP server, I am unable to receive mail. Outgoing is quite OK. According to my server it is set-up correctly. They suggested to uninstall my AVG anti virus program to see if it was being blocked. I have reinstalled AVG and changed the setting to disble the email protection and I still cannot receive mail. MY ISP server says now that there is nothing further they can do.
The message that comes up when I want to receive mail is: The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'mail.tadaust.org.au' Server: 'mail.tadaust.org.au' Protocol: POP3,Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error 10060, Eror Number: 0x800CCCOE Can you advise me of any other options.
I am trying to help my granda with his new computer. We set up his outlook and he can send emails but not receive. I have already turned off the antivirus email scanning function. Account: 'localhost', Server: 'localhost', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E
for past two days i am not able to receive any mail . eventhough there are about 18 mails while opening the same the window is very very slow and not able to open.
I am usuing McAfee anti-virus and can not see/receive attachments sent from 3 PC's at one of my clients. I have disabled e-mail scanning and identified the senders as safe, no joy! All other PC's at the clients are ok. If I preview the message through BT.com, the attchment id there.
I have recently started using Windows Mail with a Yahoo.co.uk address as my everyday one. No problems, everything is fine except that I don't know how to receive Newsgroups - like this one. what I should put into the Tools/accounts/ Newsgroup accounts where it asks for a server?
