i downloaded vista sp1 on my pc model no HP s7720-uk, after that same as others i have had same errors and i looked on net for soluation and tried different thing then pc started to hang at different stage, any way i tried so many different things that some how i f****d up my pc. its not doing system resotr, nor startup repairs or any thing. now i m thing to do system recover. i m not a computer master so i thought to ask for help from you. how can i rum system or pc recovery (its on my D drive on hd) and how can i save my hunderds of pic and songs, and afrter recovery will get same programs back on pc or not.
I don't know what they call it, but it's a keyboard kinda shaped like a hand that is used for gaming. I see them at the BXtra on Hickam AFB and I was wanting to pick one up just because I am addicted to adding new stuff to my system.
I don't even know what it's called, so I can't google an image or anything, so I was hoping someone here knew it. I believe it's a lot like my G15 keyboard, with function keys that remember certain keystrokes, but I am not sure. It also has what looks like a nintendo controller thumb-pad near the thumb area which looks like it maybe useful for games like WoW.
The other day it just started hanging so i supposed that the Operation system was the Fault (Windows Vista Ultimate.), Did a format but the same thing... So i Unpluged the Hard Disk From the Computer and Pluged it in another Working Computer, newly installed Windows Vista And Some Programms and drivers, then Checked if everything i working Fine, And it seems so... Well then I connected the HD to the Other Computer and swicthed it on... its going to Load Windows, Afer the First Bar runs it suddenly Splashes A blue Screen... And Restarts the Computer.. Well After that i removed the RAM and tried them in my other working Computer and there were working Great, So does the Graphic Card, If netheir the RAM Neither the Graphic Card and nor the DVD Drives is the Problem. SO What May Be The F***G Problem?..........
I recently bought a laptop that did not come with any restore disc. I plan to create a back up of my current vista so in case XP somehow fails, I can return to vista. My question is, how do I create a back up that will work when I am on XP? I know the Vista "system restore" does not work on XP. I read somewhere else that I can copy paste my windows folder from C: drive directly onto an external harddrive, but if XP fails how do I put that onto my computer?
I downloaded the 5 language standalone yesterday and can't get it to install. It says I don't have the correct languages installed. I am running Vista Ultimate. Am dissapointed. Is there a link on MS that I can download SP1 that works without waiting for the Update next month?
I turned on my computer today and instead of starting up it told me something similar to "there is a missing or corrupt file and windows could not start" and then it told me I had to put in my vista disk and try to repair the problem. I put in the disk, but couldnt get the computer to run the disk from the startup menus. I then went got frustrated and clicked on "recovery partition", where it told me I could re-download vista. I hoped at some point I would be able to repair my existing vista instead of installing a new one, but instead this new vista seemed to completely override my old vista, and then it told me all my old files were put into a "windows.old" file. Then after logging in it told me I had to re-buy vista, which i didn't do. When I logged in using the limited version of vista all of my files were gone and it seemed like all of my existing settings were erased. I was even disconnected from the internet. I'm wondering if there is some way I can repair and recover my old OS and get rid of this trial version.
I am using FireFox v 3.0.7 and when ever i download any file the download window show the progress and when it finishes the downloaded file vanishes from that folder
I have Windows Mail set to download email from Google locally via POP3. It has been working great and I've been receiving all of my emails, no problem. Yesterday, Windows Mail started getting really slow when it came to reading messages. It may take it 2-30 seconds for an email (which has already been downloaded locally) to show up in my preview pane.
I did go through the steps are running wmutil151 and "SlowWinmail_Fix" (clears the blocked site list), which I found in this forum. I also opened Windows Calendar for a few minutes. None of them seemed to have an impact on the situation. I moved the mail folder to a different drive. No impact.
Today the problem changed and worsened. Now when I select a message, (existing or a fresh inbox message), the preview pane (only) will gray slightly for the same period of time, then turn the normal white, and no message is displayed. If I double click on a message, after the delay, it comes up, again with a blank body (the headers are all there at the top).
Messages with attachments will show the attachments, but when you double click on them, it pops up with an error box, "Windows cannot find ''. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. A third party tool ('Windows Mail Attachment Extractor') can pull down those same attachements, no problem. System is Windows Vista, 32 bit mode. Plenty of hard drive space left. The only significant recent change was the upgrade to Firefox 3.5. Antivirus software is AVG.
Whenever i download a file, the download bar shows, but after completion i go to open the file, but it shows that it has 0 bytes. I looked online and some people said it was because of my anti virus (AVG) . i recently updated it to ver. 9. I thought it was because i updated it, so i restored my computer to prior the installation (about 2 days). i still get the same problem. Whenever i download a file such as .msi installer, .exe executable, or .zip archive with IE and run it, it crashes (not IE but the file that was downloaded.) This recently started happening on my Home Premium 64-bit Vista installation, and the problem remains after reinstalling Vista two times from scratch. If the file was downloaded on another PC and saved to a flash drive, it runs fine on Vista. I have tried the sfc /scannow command, as well as disabling any firewall, antivirus, etc. and changing the IE settings. This occurs on a clean installation of Windows Vista also. Any time I try to install any downloaded software, for example Winamp,Firefox, etc, it does not work. I will get a popup that says "(program name) has stopped working. A problem has caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."
It has done this with every file I've downloaded and tried to install. Also,some MSI files I've downloaded (turbotax update, etc.) do nothing after I try to run them. I've verified that the software is compatible with Vista (per the places I've downloaded them from), turned off UAC, disabled Windows Firewall and Defender, Run as Admin, and even tried in Safe Mode. Also, I've run Windows Update and it says there are no available updates.
I trying to download this program. When I do it saves it as a EFW file extension. This just started when downloading stuff with this ext. on the end of files. Now I cant open and run nothing. How can I fix this ext. file problem?
What is the avenue to download it? Some sort of error message appears about sound card. Anyone know of a proper way to get this going on vista ultimate 64 bit? Very expensive AlienWare Area 51 P.C. CODWW downloaded with out issue.
A friend of mine has Vista on his 2 home computers. His and his Wife's. They recently rearranged furniture, including the computers. When they plugged them all back in to their router, neither their computers, nor their xbox, could connect to the internet anymore. They called their ISP(Charter Communication) and Charter told them nothing was wrong that their cable modem was showing up fine and seemed to be working just fine. So they had a tech come out to their place and the guy was baffled. He swapped out their cable modem but said nothing was wrong with the old one, he just swapped them to make them feel better I guess. But even the tech guy couldn't understand why they suddendly cannot access the net. Even removing the router from the equation did not help one little bit. A buddy of theirs brought his laptop over to their house and was able to connect to the net through their cable modem so we know the modem is working just fine.
Well, thats when my Brother told them to call me. I did all the basic things you'd expect, starting from scratch. We started with connecting directly to the cable modem and got what I expected, zilch. I checked ipconfig and noticed they had a 169.*.*.* IP on both computers. by the way I'm doing all this long distance since they live several hours away from me. That 169 is wrong, or at least it seems like it to me so I banged away trying to change that with no results. Every change I made reset to 169 instantly. Even a restart didn't help. So I had them plug it into the router and got a normal 192.*.*.* IP. At this point, several hours after we began, I gave up for the time being on that particular problem............
I am trying to open a downloaded file and just can not seem to... I think it is in ZIP format. I have Vista PH and the file is a font - it will not open in Paint.Net or any other program and I am not able to un-zip it.
I am downloading a file from a website (Janome - sewing machine related) and it shows on the list of the downloads pop up window -- but I can't find it on my hard drive. How can I locate the file? It's not in the download folder. If I search for the file name nothing comes up (I sure miss the old search process). I need to copy this file and move it to a flash drive -- in order to move it to an older laptop that no longer has Internet access - but runs my embroidery sewing machine. But I can't find the file. If I double click on the downloads pop-up -- it attempts to open the file -- So I am convinced it is there somewhere...
Just bought my son a new PC with Vista HP 32 bit - he installed Warhammer online but it would not run the game - the error message was asking for a DX9 DLL file - downloaded and installed that, the game now runs, BUT will not boot next time he turns it on..... he has to boot at a restore point before the DLL was installed - is there a way round this as its a pain to do this every time he wants to play?
SP1 has been nothing but trouble for me, never been able to install it, done all the suggested fixes from microsoft. Downloaded the standalone install exe and still no luck. It's been doing my head in, Is there any deffinate reasons that hsould make mem want to upgrade because my computer is far from disfunctional as it is but I would like it to be upgraded.
When i try to download files from, for example my hotmail, i always target it for my desktop, to be sure that i can find it again.That just dont work anymore. The files disapears. I have searched for them everywhere, and i can find the shortcuts, but they are just dead ends. A boks is popping up, saying that the shortcut dosent work anymore and that the files they are refering to, are changed ore moved.
I am using Vista Business 64bit on a Mac Pro. This is my first time ever using Windows so it's taking me some time to get use to how it works. This is my computer and I am the only person who works on it. I have downloaded and installer application that I do not want to use. So I tried to delete it but I keep getting the message "you need permission to perform this action". How can I delete this?
I just downloaded an .exe file fromt the internet and saved it to my harddrive. But I must've done something wrong in the process because when I check the location I saved it to, it shows a shortcut (.lnk) that won't do a thing if I double click on it. Is there a way to change the extension back to .exe so I can run it (it's an install program)? I've already scouted the forums and noticed you can do something with your regs, but I'm afraid that will affect other files on my computer and I'm only having problems with this particular file.
I've seen this problem posted a number of times, and either there's no fix for it or it was attributed to something that doesn't apply to my situation. Here's the description:
- With Firefox and Google Talk, any downloaded file cannot be opened by the program. - IE8 and Chrome both work, and since I use Chrome for everything, I never noticed the issue in Firefox. File transfer in Google Talk has been screwed since I installed Vista. - It happens when they're run in Administrator Mode as well - The files do not appear in the specified Download directory (my UserDownload folder) - A search shows that the files do not exist -anywhere- on any of my HDs - The files aren't in AppDataTemp either - I do NOT have AVG, nor have I ever had it installed on any of my HDs, ever - The account I use is the original account I created on install, and has Administrator privileges - I have already granted special permissions for all Users to Create/Modify files within the folder - The User folders are not in their original location. They've been moved to a separate HD specifically for Docs/Downloads.
The most common answer I see is "Turn off UAC," but I see that as a last resort and would prefer a different solution. I'm tempted to just switch to 7 today and deal with the RC but I'm wary of the problem not being fixed there either.
My problem is imageres.dll which is located in C:WindowsSystem32 I was downloading some files from Windows 8 and trying to make Windows Vista more like Windows XP,and now i taked ownership and renamed imageres.dll to imageres_backup.dll And i forgot to move imageres.dll from that pack i downloaded there and i thinked that i moved and restarted PC. Now when i turned PC i can't install any program,most icons are displayed incorrect,and that... But when i try to rename imageres_backup.dll to old it doesn't work And i can't move imageres.dll from pack to there...
I have had the common problem on not being able to install KB938371 update which is one of the 3 prerequisites to downloading through Microsoft Update the SP1. I have tried all the tricks and suggestion published throughout the web except an in place reinstall of Vista Business. This is highly undesireable since my sony laptop will only reinstall Vista Business as per original with all the software originally shipped which is a pain to remove.
If I download the entire sp1 750mb file, will it install without the prerequsite files? I have read that the prerequisites were actually a compilation of sp1 files and not an actual update to Vista. This being the case, it seems that if the sp1 file were downloaded it would work.
I'm trying to set up a new Vista PC and am confused about Admin. account and user acct.s, as far as for example, I downloaded Google Chrome while in Admin.account. It works and the short cuts are there but I cannot figure out how to get the shortcuts to the other user accounts, I did search and find the chrome.exe in, "C:Master AccountAppDataLocalGoogleApplicationChrome.exe."
I then went into 'share' and made this location shared and redid them as co-owner, I still cannot find the chrome.exe in the individual user accounts in order to open it up.
I am having a problem with programs that I have downloaded. I try to open them and I get this statement: This installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows installer package.
I downloaded Version 3.01.1 of Firefox from Mozilla in order to replace Version 3.5, which was malfunctioning with graphics problems. However, I could not istall it as I was given the message that the downloaded file was from an Unknown Publisher and that there was no digital signature or that the signature was invalid. It asked me if I wanted to install anyway so I said yes. However it would not execute and said it would notify MSft of the problem.
I've tried downloading other files, Avast for example, and got the same message(s). I went to tools/internet options/Advanced/Security and checked "Allow software to run or install even if the signature is invalid" and unchecked "Check for sinatures on downloaded programs". This didn't work either.
