I am using Microsoft Vista Home Addition and I am a novice. I downloaded a copy of turbo tax and part of the screens are missing --- no buttons. I have that problem with other software as well. I know its not Turbotax because it works just fine on my XP laptop.

View 6 Replies View Relatedi dont know why, when one of my program goes into lock down, i could not get it to shut down. i tried everything like task manager and log off, it would then just lock down the whole pc. i have a thinkpad t400 intel core 2 duo t9600 2.80GHz, 4gb of memory, and 2 gb of turbo memory with a 320 5400rpm hdd. also it takes my laptop about 1 minute to going hibernate. is that normal? it looks like it has completely shut down. so i am confused.

I am trying to copy everything from one to another (files in folders and files that are not in folders)
I tried selecting all and then send to Z:, but it took about six hours to copy about 20 gig (I have about 180 gig to copy)
I read some where that robocopy is a faster and better way to copy files.The thing is I do not know what syntax to use. I was wondering if someone could tell me the syntax I should use to copy EVERYTHING from the usb driveK: to the network drive Z:
I downloaded iTunes, version 8 I believe, and I see the progress line go all the way across in the Downloads window and the installer appears on my Desktop as TunesSetup.exe.part. It won't open and when I look at Properties, under General Tab it shows as having 0 bytes and in the Details tab, it shows as having 1.55 mb.

I do not remember exactly when it started, but I keep get blue screens.
I tried to format the computer after the problem began to worsen and it did not help.
I can say that I can know when is going to appear a blue screen, first of all
Internet disconnects and software not responding and then the blue screen appears and I need to do reset.

Why it won't upgrade?
I just noticed a file in C: named SYM_REGISTRY_BACKUP.reg, dated 4/22008. It is quite large (223MB) so I wanted to delete it to free up some space. Searching the Internet, I can't tell if it is part of a virus or it I can safely delete it without breaking some legit working program (assuming it is not virus related). I scanned it with Norton and it says it is ok.

Never could get my LCD screens properly cleaned. All 'special' products for cleaning leave them with stripes. Being a real man, i tried using WD40. First little corner on oldest monitor, ended up cleaning my flatscreen TV with it. It renders the screens as new, i tried putting the screen on background black and it was spotless. completely OT, bathe an old speaker overnite in WD40 makes any old scratchy speaker come back to life

I thought it was just a faulty laptop so I returned it and was given a new one and I am still getting the bluescreen. It usually appears after I install new software (installed printer) however I can receive upon startup as well...............
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a problem installing Vista (any build) using my ATI X1600 Pro AGP 512MB video card. I have no problem until I come to during the "Completing installation" phase,then the system gets the blue screen of death and shuts down less than a minute or so before Vista is installed. If I boot the system again I get the same error. If I boot in Safe Mode I get the message: "Installation can not be completed in safe mode"

View 7 Replies View RelatedMy old Windows XP PC died months ago (motherboard problems) and so I took out the hard drive (which still functions fine) and put it in my new PC, but I can't seem to copy any of my files in the My Documents folder from the old drive to my newer larger drive. I've had this drive in here for the last several months and have had no problems writing other files to this 'older' drive (250 gig Maxtor 16mb cache, 7,200RPM drive (btw it's only a year old), but when I try to copy files to another drive I get the following error message: "You'll need to provide administrator permission to copy to this file." This only happens with files that are in the My Documents folder. My current login has administrator rights, so I'm thinking some how this has something to do with this drive being from a different computer's installation of XP.

I installed Vista on a PC that previously had XP pro. I basically only need vista nowadays and want to get rid of XP pro to gain more HD space.So, Vista is on partition C and XP is on partition D on the same hard drive. I can not delete or partition the XP part. I get an error message saying ."The attempted operation cannot be completed. This operation is not valid on volumes containing system partition, boot partition ore pagefiles".The XP partitions says "System, Primary Partition".I set the Vista partition to be 'active'.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have had a new vista desktop for about 6 weeks. It is hooked directly into a Linksys router which in turn hooked to my DSL modem. I also have a laptop on the network connected wirelessly. For the first few weeks, whenever I clicl on network I see three icons--one for the desktop, one for the laptop and one for the router. Acouple of weeks ago I noticed that now there is only an icon for the desktop and for the laptop. I have rebooted several times and then run the network utility but the router ceases to show up. The router works as both pc's have internet access and both pc's share files ok.

I still have my old laptop and it still posts to the newsgroups via outlook express 6. I'm using it right now. Incidentally, Bellsouth/ATT is going to drop newsgroups next month.I have the same settings for the account in both laptops. This one is running XP pro. When I set up the acct on the Vista one, the headers came in asusual. Everything works as usual, except when I click on send, it doesn't send. I get an error message instead. I get this one: "windows mail could not post your message. etc...snip.. 441posting failed rejected by post filter port 119,secure (ssl): no, server error :401 error number: 0x800CCCA9" Is there a hidden trick to setting it up so it sends? I searched the net and one guy had the same problem and resolved it by changing the mimo to uuncode, or something like that, I forget exactly what they were, but I found them buried in a menur on my system somewhere, and made the change but it didn't fix mine.

View 6 Replies View RelatedRecently my computer has been more frequently running slower and generally not working as well as it has been. Its less than a year old and running vista home premium 64bit. It happens if i have a lot of programs running eg: using dreamweaver, photoshop as well as having an internet browser open etc. It use to run fine with these programs running at the same time, occasionally now they wont respond and pressing ctrl alt del opens a black screen and after a while a message comes up saying logon failed security dialog box. It also occured earlier just browsing the internet with a slow loading page which i closed and tryed top open the network centre. It decided not to respond and ctrl alt del resulted in the same as above. Also occasionally when starting up after i log in there is a black screen, after managing to open the task manager processes slowly start to begin and the main desktop appears as usual.

View 6 Replies View Related-I have done 4 clean installs (format and re-install) -Using Vista-64 Home basic on a XFX nVidia 780i mobo with 8gb of OCZ paired ram (4x2gb), a intel Q6600 quad core, and 2x MSI 8800GTS in SLI... -What would be really nice is if someone could tell me how to sign up for OEM support as an individual, as I build systems for fun, not for a company. I don't feel like paying a support tech nearly 60$ for a piece of software that is supposed to come with free support.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI can't see all the text in certain Vista screens and cannot access the bottom of the screen (i.e. sounds, DPI settings). I couldn't install the Vista SP1 because I cannot access the area to check off "I Accept". These screens cannot be made larger and have no sidebar sliders. In DPI Scaling box (which also does not show all text), the "Default scale 96DPI" choice has a strikeout line through it and it is grayed out. The only choice is "Larger scale 120DPI". My monitor is about 4 years old, 17" LCD Flat, eTronic brand 1710. Monitor settings in Hardware is PNP Generic.
View 4 Replies View RelatedNow I've had this for, i kid you not, less than a day, and blue screens of death/restarts keep occuring. I have norton 360 running and updated, updated my graphics driver for my 9400, updated everything I could through windows update, and still this problem presists. Sometimes, the blue screen will just briefly flash, then restart and it gives me the option of choosing if i want to go into safe mode or not.Also, i changed some setting on my internet connection, through cmd.exe, i changed everything this video told me to When i attempted to go back and reverse it, it said that elevation was required and the command failed on ipv4.
The blue screens have varied in what they say, they always dump my physical memory so i never get a chance to fully read them. However, they have said all of the following. MEMORY MANAGEMENT Something about a bad page file And a few more i cant remember Right now, my pc runs fine for a while, but most of the time when i boot it up, it says rundll32 has encountered a problem and must close. Sometimes this forces a blue screen to appear sometimes it doesn't. I also thought it may have been heat, but i was runnining my computer fine for 15 hours straight or so when i got it and it was ok, but then showed a blue screen of death for memory management. Currently, it runs in this strange windows 98 style, the icons, toolbar, start menu, everything is windows 98 looking. Also, it displays a rundll32 error and somestimes a windows process error everytime i start up. I ran a memory diagnostic and it said there were no problems.
I'm having trouble getting my Vista Ultimate desktop to see the XP machines and vice versa. The XPs see each other fine. I'll copy and paste all = the info I'm sure you'll need below=20 but let me say right now that the browstat wouldn't run on the Vista PC. When I opened to text file it was empty. Also, you'll notice in the ipconfig that it says NetBios over TCPIP is disable but it's not. I = have no=20 idea why it says disabled (see pic)Thisis gonna be lengthy so please forgive me. No firewalls are installed = and the one in Windows has been disabled.................
View 9 Replies View RelatedWhen UAC kicks in for some reason, you can optionally choose to view more details where that dialog displays what looks like a long hexadecimal string - I haven't confirmed whether it is valid hexadecimal. The point is, its probably some kind of ID for that particular instance of UAC kicking in. Why isn't that string selectable so that it can be copied to the clipboard? Is that string stored as part of a log that UAC maintains?
