Contact Folder: Windows Mail Doesn't Support Folders In The Contact Area
May 31, 2008I'm very disappointed that windows mail doesn't support folders in the contact area. I hope some one from Microsoft see this and they reconsider putting a update to re add this feature. I just got this computer and already I want to send it back. I really need folders to keep my contacts sorted. Either add the option or let me download the old Outlook to install. And buying Office outlook is not a option.

Apr 29, 2009so my Norton Internet Security expired on my Asus laptop and I uninstalled it and Norton LiveUpdate. My internet worked fine. Then I installed AVG 8.5 antivirus and as soon as I rebooted the machine my internet stopped working. It says "the connection keeps resetting" when I try and get on the internet, and I cannot update the AVG now. I did turn on the Windows Firewall right after restarting, but after turning it back off, I'm still without internet. I'm using a NetGear wireless router connected to a broadband modem.

Mar 23, 2008SP1 turned on system restore without turning on system restore:shock: I don't use system restore and had it turned off prior to SP1. I noticed disc space declining, almost 5gigs since the update. When I checked to see if SP1 turned it back on, it showed that it was still disabled but with a "most recent restore point" dated March 18th! System restore is off but creating restore points?! I turned it back on and turned it off again, which eliminated the existing phantom restore points. This is the only glitch that I've noticed with SP1 on my system thus far, but with "everyone else" having problems, this service pack is without a doubt half-baked. I wonder what other SP1 mysteries await me?

Jan 9, 2010Reason that I am asking: Today my one colored screen, which was my favorite old plain windows green, became white. Don't know the reason, I don't recall having changed anything myself. Then I tried to find the reason, and when I went back to the themes, etc., I was able to get back the color but then I notice that the lettering and the graphics is somwaht changed, maybe more modern or streamlined. Has there been an update to Vista Ultimate, what I have, that is causing this?

May 1, 2008I have just started having problems sending emails, I am receiving my emails with no problems. I have even added the windows mail to be allowed through the firewall. I don't know if there was a windows update that has caused the problem since I have not had problems like this before. A window pops up stating....your server has unexpectedly terminated the connections. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or longer periods of inactivity. Error number 0x800CCCoF. My internet provides say there is no problem on their end and that it must be a firewall problem.

Apr 23, 2010I added a second monitor to the GeForce 7100 GS using a DVI-VGA adapter and for the life of me cannot get it to display anything, the monitor is just in sleep mode. I've got the latest driver, Windows is up to date, checked the cables, tried another adapter, tried everything but, still nothing. The second monitor shows up in the device manager and in the Nvidia control panel. It's enabled and set to extend desktops. It seems the system knows it's there because I can move the mouse over, but cannot see anything. The power light on the second monitor just flashes. I've swapped monitors over, to make sure there's not a problem with the display and it's fine. When I do that, the main monitor is then plugged in to the DVI adapter and then that one goes to sleep. Just seems whichever monitor is plugged in to the DVI-VGA adapter just doesn't want to work........

Mar 23, 2008I use a admin account on my computer but when I added standard user account it will not open some web pages for example when I go to my yahoo mail it will show the email but when I click on it, it will not show any text, but when I use the administrator account the web page works fine, I can see and read all emails. Another example is when I go to ask.com and search under the standard user it comes up as a blank page but will show search results under the administrator account. I have windows vista home and 7.0 explorer.

I've tried manually changing them around after double clicking on each name, but there's no way to save. They flip back as before as soon as I go back to the contact list.

I spent several hours over several days speaking to a Microsoft tech support supervisor trying to get it to work, to no avail, and the case was closed by Microsoft as having no solution available.
This was not acceptable to me, being the curious person I am. I decided, what the hell, I'll just uninstall my OS, reformat and do a clean install. During the install I installed each and every update and application one at a time, checking the function of my fingerprint reader after each update and application, rebooting after each one. I had many updates and applications to install so it took me two days to discover the problem..........

My wife & I have seperate log-in accounts on vista ultimate in hopes that it would alow us to also have seperate email and contact lists. As of now we have sererate email accounts also but share a contact list between us and want to have our own, except that vista doesn't seem to allow us to do so. Is this something we'll have to live with or is there a fix somewhere?

Apr 6, 2008I'm in the middle of my Vista deployment, I had a test KMS server runing on a Windows2003 SP1 box. It worked (I got events in the KMS event viewer) but because I did not reach my 25 Vista tests machines I left it runing until I started the real deployment. And now surprise. The clients do not talk to the KMS server (sysprep'd clients), the DNS records are correct, I tried to add manually the KMS server in the registry "KeyManagementServiceName" in WindowsNTCurrentVersionSL, I also tried slmgr -skms myserver.mydomain.com (I used my real server name of course) that resulted in error 800706BA "RPC not available" even if the port 1688 is open on the server - remember the KMS server was working before...
I also tried installing another KMS 1.1 on a Windows 2003 SP2 box without more success (the KMS setup runs smoothly) on the client side. I ran a packet capture and found that the Vista Client does not even try to connect to any server on port 1688, the only connection I can see is an http to microsoft.com that fails because of our authentication proxy. By the way the error I see in the event log on the clients is 8004FE33 (Proxy auth) as long as IE is configured with our proxy and if I remove the proxy config I get an 80072EFD unable to connect to server when I run slmgr -ato.

Jun 23, 2009With XP once you entered the first or second letter of the a name in your contact group it displayed a whole name for you to choose. Vista doesn't seem to do this or am I missing something?
