"configuring My System" Disappears

Nov 22, 2007

The download agent seems to work fine installing the Live suite of programs on my Vista-64 system. I can use Messenger without any problems, and can get to my hotmail account through Internet Explorer just fine. However when I go to use the Live Mail application a box comes up that say Windows is "configuring my system" then disappears with nothing else happening. The application never actually loads. I test the Windows Live mail on my laptop with XP and it works great. what the hangup is on Vista 64. I have 4GB of RAM, Pentium Quad Extreme processor, 320GB HD system.

ReadyBoost: Port And Configuring 'Improve System Performance'

I've just started to use readyboost by pushing a 4GB usb stick into the port and configuring it to 'Improve system performance'. I can see its little light flashing, so I assume it is working. Is there anyway of measuring how much it is improving (or not) system performance. I have 2 Gb ram.

Network Icon System Tray Show Up With A "red X Disappears

Dec 17, 2008

My home PC, running Vista and wired to the network, drops momentarily from my home network and looses the connection to the network printer. Usually happens when I click a link to a new page. An error comes up saying something like "page unavailable". I hit "refresh" and the page loads. I can sit at the PC and watch the network Icon in the system tray show up with a "red X" and then the red x disappears. The interesting thing is that my two laptops run wirelessly and wired to the network with out an issue. I am guessing it has to be something with the settings off myPC ethernet card? I tried updating drivers, but no new driver was available.

Configuring Windows Updates

Jul 15, 2009

I received 4 updates today and all 4 installed however one update KB961371 showed error 800703F9. While configuring updates it would show Stage 1 of 3-0%complete. Then it would show updates not configured propertly. I tried this several time, same results. I did a system restore and then tried installing only the security update, same results. After this I reinstalled the other 3 update with no problem. This is the first time I have had a update not to install. I am using AVG Internet Security 8.5 version, however I don't think this is the problem as I have received over 130 windows updates inthe past. I do have windows set to install updates automatically every day. I have contacted MS with this information but have not received a answer. To tell the truth I trust the forum more. I look up some information and this update applies to 2008 windows server Itanium-based system. I have a HP Pavilion s3120n with AMD 64 live processor.

Gets To 'configuring Updates Stage 3 Of 3' And FREEZES At 0%

Mar 23, 2008

Sure enough, after waiting impatiently for months, I tried to install SP1 today and it was a disaster.

1) It gets to 'configuring updates stage 3 of 3' and FREEZES at 0%.
2)This forces reboot, same freeze.
3) So I reboot in safe mode, and it resumes installation of stage 3
and gets to 98% - whoo - hoo!
4) And then, after two hours of this, it says 'Service Pack could not
install; reverting changes'
5) Back to square 1, an entire evening wasted.

Damn you, Microsoft. I'm running a simple laptop, nothing special. I disabled the firewall, the antivirus, antispyware, and network before trying to install SP1. Nothing. NADA. How long do you idiots have to work on this thing to get it to succeed on any simple laptop? Years? Decades? Other people are reporting similar problems. Are you gonna respond? Or are you gonna just *&%$ up my machine permanently when you FORCE this stinking, bug-ridden service pack onto it in a few weeks time? And then who do I sue?

Configuring New Gaming With 32 Bit And 64bit Systems

Jan 7, 2009

I am currently in the process of configuring a new Dell XPS 630. I want the system to be primarily for gaming. I have yet to use a PC with Vista, so needless to say I am not familiar with it, let alone the difference between Vista 32-bit and 64 bit systems. The price difference between the 32- and 64-bit systems that I am debating between is very small. Anyway, my questions and concerns are. Is there an advantage to having a 62-bit version over a 32-bit version of vista when it comes to gaming? Any performance problems/issues of one or the other?

If I get the 64-bit version, will 4GB of RAM be enough for gaming or do I need more? Which processor will be better... Intel® Core™2 Q6600 Quad-Core (8MB L2 cache,2.40GHz,1066FSB) or Intel® Core™2 E8500 (6MB,3.16 GHz, 1333FSB)? How much hard drive space does the OS take up? Would a 500GB hard drive be a decent size. (assuming I plan to remove most games after they are completed)Here is the configuration Im looking at. Price with shipping comes to $1216 USD. Plus I have $550 worth of Dell gift cards I've been saving. Nice thing is 19in monitor is included.........

Updates For Ultimate 32 Bit Not Configuring Properly

Oct 9, 2009

I am running a triple boot system and have just completed installing XP, all updates, and applications. Now I am in the midst of getting Vista Ultimate installed but initally was getting a Code 52 error, when I installed Office 2007 the error disappeared and I was able to update Vista and Office with the exception of these three update which would initally say they were downloaded and installed and then on the reboot configuring after rebooting it would say that these updates were not configured properly and would revert them. I have tried to download them earliest to lastest still same problem occuring. Have deleted all temp files and cookies still nothing.

These are the three update that will not configure correctly. A software update is available for the Windows Vista installation components A June 2008 update is available for the Windows Vista Customer Experience Improvement Program (CEIP) An October 2008 update is available for the Windows Vista Customer Experience Improvement Program (CEIP)

Configuring Updates, Recieved Black Screen

May 22, 2008

I just recently purchased a new game, and it said it would help the game's performance to install Vista Service Pack 1. While doing this, at the end of configuring updates, I recieved a black screen and "0xc0190036" with some message like keyboard. after it. It never changed from this screen. From different websites online, I read my best bet is to reinstall Vista. I have an Acer computer, and I am not positive that I recieved a back-up CD with my purchase. If I did, it must be lost, as my house is organized like an OCD freak would do. I was able to find XP OS disk, and quickly put that in, only to soon realize this was a Dell OS. This basically was a whole bunch of fail, and now it seems my only option is to boot "CD-ROM" with the Vista CD which I do not have in there...

Chronic Window Sizing, Positioning, & Configuring

Aug 2, 2009

Why after decades of Windows development won't opened windows maintain their set positions but instead continue to revert to other positions? In the case of IE the window size does remain a constant but something continues to upset its position. The position upset is not caused by closing the first instance of a window down first before other instances of IE for instance--that always upsets the first instance position of the window. I think there are many things that come along more important to spend man-hours on fixing but ignoring a real solution to something this obvious for so long a time I cannot condone. Size and position of a primary window's location ought to stick as sure as one's Home Page remains what you have set for it.

Equally annoying and unexplained is why some windows like MSConfig that can display a number of columns of data depending on what you are looking at in it have never been able to resize (or position) at all to properly display the data.
For me these are two really disgusting oversights. I wonder why, if Windows has a Registry that no one seems to care how it gets used or how large it grows, it can't be used to lock in window locations, sizing, expansion, configuration, etc. data, and keep these window parameters from reverting back to something less?

Updates Configuring 3 Of 3 - 0% // Then Shutdown" And Repeat

Apr 5, 2009

First of all I would like to say I love this forum if it wasn't for this forum my Desktop/HDtv(as my monitor) would have a keyboard stuck in it. Why you might ask, well I was stuck on "Updates Configuring 3 of 3 - 0% // then Shutdown" and repeat. Also I'm a new Vista owner and so far its been shaky but I plan on over coming it. NOW!, To why I'm here, I keep my desktop empty and use the Dell Dock (Mac style Dock that came with my Dell). I cleaned out and disabled most of the stuff on the startup I don't need. So the problem I'm having is that the Dell Dock is the last thing to load after my antivirus and firewall and spyware programs. My question is, is there anyway to make the Dell Dock load first? Is there anyway to do this even with registry hacking? I want the Dell Dock to load up before most of the other startup programs.

Configuring: Game Controller Prevents Display Blank

Mar 26, 2008

I have my power settings configured ot turn off the monitor after 15 minutes of inactivity. . . but the problem is, if I'm playing a game with my Logitech USB Gamepad, Vista doesn't count the input from the gamepad as 'activity', which is a little puzzling.

Is there a way to get Vista to recognize gamepad input as activity so that it does not turn off my display in the middle of playing my game? I do realize that I can change my power settings to just not turn off the display, but that's inconvenient because then I have to change my settings back when I'm done with the game. As far as I'm concerned, Vista is just not behaving in a reasonable fashion if game controller input doesn't prevent screen blanking.

Received Email Disappears

Mar 26, 2008

I am running Windows Vista home edition and when I receive my email using Windows Mail, it says it is receiving the email ok but then it all disappears. There are no messages in the inbox or any other folder. I tested that my email is getting to my mailbox on my ISP'S server by using their webmail. I have had people send me test messages and they
all show up in the mailbox. After I start up Windows mail and it says it is receiving "n" messages and then they disappear, I logged back onto my webmail and all the mail is gone so I know it is being sent to my PC.

Can anyone help with this problem? I have no idea where the messages are going to, they just seem to disappear. I hav uninstalled the antivirus program that I had because I thought maybe it had something to do with it but that did not do any good. I have no other firewalls or anything running on the PC outside of what comes with Vista.

Folders Column Disappears...

I helped a friend select and install a new desktop w/Vista Home Premium. I set up Windows Mail to replace her Outlook Express she had used on her old XP desktop. Whenever she shuts down her computer, the folders column on the left goes away. She has to do View, Layout, Folder List to get it back. It stays there on subsequent uses of Windows Mail until the next time she shuts down. I'm going to suggest she Hibernate, not Shut Down, until I find a fix for her.
