Programs That Check The Ram Installed
Apr 12, 2009i was just wondering why i have 4 gig of ram installed on vista, Control Panal/System/Memory (Ram) - 4GB But Program such as Auslogics boost speed and other programs that check the Ram installed, only Pick up 3446.51 MB installed. Every other program says that Digit, why am i not getting the Full 4 Gig, Or how can i make it 4 Gig in total?

Apr 1, 2008I'm running Vista Business on a 2.4 GHz AMD LapTop machine, 2GB of RAM. Many of the operations are quite sticky when compared to the old XP machine with 1 GB memory. I was wondering if ReadyBoost would bring some speed-up to Vista. I have seen no speed increase with my current 2 GB USB Boost sticks. Then someone pointed me to this Tom's Hardware page there they have evaluated Ready boost. To me it looks like ReadyBoost would never give even to these guys more than 2..3 percent of speed increase. And in some cases ReadyBoost even made machines with low 1 GB memory slower than without ReadyBoost. Any comments on this Toms's Hardware test, do they runs these tests wrong? I did not find any Microsoft based ReadyBoost benchmarks or anything. Currently I am more of thinking to downgrade operationg system to XP. I will not invest more on another 2GB of true RAM memory upgrade (not a USB Boost) if it is uncertain if even that would speed up this laptop.

Apr 14, 2008VISTA SUCKS, I broke down and gave it a try. I have a recent computer, dualcore cpu, 2gigs etc. I went into it with an open mind, I never believe what people say until I try it myself. I expected it to be about 10% slower on benchmarks (gaming), etc. But I figured with a fast computer that 10% might not be missed.
It's so stupid! (unstable/crashy/crappy). My drivers are all up-to-date, etc. I've had more crashes in two days then I did in two years with XP. Games run horribly!I'm thinking I lost more then 10% performance, when things arent crashing With that said.... Goodbye you "sexy dumb blonde" of an operating system... I'm going back to ugly/reliable XP, after only two days...
Ultimate Crash: Failed Check The File System Integrity Check
Mar 26, 2008Vista started giving a blue screen a couple of days ago. Mentioned something about a bad device, but no new devices have been added. Went through the typical steps, tried to boot in safe mode and got the following errors:
AtBroker.exe The application failed to initialize properly. Click OK.
Explorer.exe The application failed to initialize properly. Blue Screen
Then booted to my install dvd, tried to fix errors. Came back with a failed check at the file system integrity check. Ran the check a second time and no errors are found. Can't boot in safe mode, and when i try to repair errors I get no errors found.
Start Menu All Programs List - How To Not Show Recent Programs
Feb 15, 2010I do not want to see any of the programs at the top of the list of All Programs (especially Internet Explorer). I just want to see the program folders listed, preferably sorted by newest or most recently modified first, by alphabetically would be OK. How to get rid of the 8 programs shown in here? Thanks.

Apr 24, 2009Ive been having a few problems with uninstalling some programs via the add/remove programs tool. For example I have been trying to uninstall Itunes and everytime I do Windows installer says it is preparing to remove and then it stops and a window come up that says "The system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation." and then another one says I do not have sufficient access to uninstall Itunes and to please contact system administrator.
So I spoke to a friend how recommended this forum subject and I followed the Take Ownership steps a few times but to no avail it still does the same thing. I can't update Itunes untill this one is uninstalled!!!!!

Mar 26, 2008I use Vista 32 Ultimate and I have this problem during the startup of Windows: The UAC control stops 2 programs and I'm not able to let these programs load with UAC control active. Tried everything also in Windows defender but no success. I must always confirm and let run these programs clicking on the UAC block tray icon that appear during the load of these 2 programs. Someone tell me that these programs blocked by UAC must be updated from the developers to pass the UAC.

Mar 1, 2009when i go to start, all programs, all my folders/programs show up, but then i noticed that theres a "programs" folder within the list, and when i click that, it shows all the same folders/programs that are in the "all programs" list. but then some of the folders within the ones in the 'all programs" list, they are empty, but they show up in the programs folder in the list. i dont know how this happened and i just wanted to know how to fix this issue.

Dec 5, 2008My sister bring me a lap top Acer Extensa 4420, the problem is that every time you boot, Vista checks the C: drive looking for problems and the reset, after the reset Vista checks again the disk and reset again, doing this in a infinite way...
Before the chkdisk program start you have the option to skip it, if you do so you get a screen saying "Vista is Configuring the update 3/3" and then restart again...
The lap top have a rescue partition, with an auto-fix option, but it didin't worked, it was on running it all the night

Apr 23, 2008When using the Spell Check, I inadvertantly clicked on the "Add" button, which put a word I misspelled into my Spell Check list. I would like to remove this unwanted word, but I cannot figure out to get rid of it, since there isn't a "Remove" button in the Spell Check window. Does anyone know if this word can be taken out of Spell Check?

In virtually every other Microsoft product we have both English (American) and English (True or UK as normally quoted). May 15, 2010About 6 months ago I ran a Check Disk of my C Drive (using the Vista Error Checking tool), and checked both boxes before starting (Auto fix file system errors and Scan for/attempt recovery of bad sectors).
It ran thru the 1st 5 of the 6 checks without finding an error.
On the 6th and final check it runs, it hung (or the 4th of the 5 checks it runs - can't remember if it's 5 or 6 it runs). . I believe it began the check, but stopped and didn't move any further. A few hours later it still hadn't moved, so I did a hard shutdown....

May 21, 2009i tried burning music, selected the correct format, then it proceeds to windows media player. it doesn't have any problems until it finalizes the cd or dvd although a message appears that burning was completed O.o when i check the cd/dvd there's nothing on there! i have no problems playing music or movies on

Jan 29, 2009My windows update is unable to check for updates, an whenever I manually check for updates, Install now shows up, once the installation process begins, a couple of minutes go by and windows returns to checking for updates, and I am right back to Check for updates for your computer. I've checked the history, and so far KB948610 has failed 4 times, and KB953733 once in the past (windows apparently never tried again).

I have gone to WORD OPTIONS; PROOFING and checked all the appropriate boxes and it still won't check my spellings. 1) On xp I could always use Windows Key + F to find such files as Charmap.exe, or files supporting my sound card - that sort of thing. This doesn't apply in Vista. Is there an equivalent?
2) How common is it that a healthy computer with Vista installed will succumb to application malfunctions that can be rectified by Check Disk? My laptop was new 2 weeks ago and apparently the hardware is in good shape, but I've had to do a couple of check disks.
