Windows XP And Sharing, Does Not Allow To Open
Mar 23, 2008
I have read the messages of sharing Vista (Home Premium) and WindowsXP SP2. I am trying to set up a network between my desktop computer (OS WindowsXP SP2) and my HP Pavilion dv6690ej laptop (OS Vista Home Premium Hebrew edition). Both computers use the Windows Firewall. The router is the Siemens SL2-141 Modem router. The desktop computer is connected to the router through a Lan connection while the laptop is connected by a wireless connection.
The problem: Both computers are configured to have the same workgroup: MSHOME. While the WindowsXP computer recognizes the folders in the laptop (Vista), and can open the folders and files, the laptop recognizes the existence of the logical drives and folders in the desktop, but does not allow to open them, giving a message (freely translated from Hebrew): "There is no possibility to access the drives or folders in the XP desktop because maybe you do not have permission do so. Contact to the Network manager(?) to see if you have an access permission. There is not enough storage? to operate this process"

Our main wireless internet connection has stopped working on one of the Dell laptops. It works fine on the other and the Mac. When attempting to connect, a "login dialog" appears where it asks for the user, pass and domain. I remember this happening to both Dells (Vista) when we first got the wireless router and the workaround was to manually create the connection.
I'm not sure what has happened to cause this laptop to stop connecting automatically, but I thought a good fix would be to manually create the connection again. Problem is, when I go to the Network window and click on "Network and Sharing Center" a new window briefly appears then disappears. Why is it doing this & how can I fix it??

For as long as I've had my new pc with 32-bit Vista I've had problems with the Network and Sharing Center. The problem never bothered me enough to really do too much about it but now, after a year of it I'm fed up and trying to fix it. So the problem is that I cannot open up the Network and Sharing Center properly. I click it, it takes about 5 minutes for the folder that pops up to be filled with any form of information, and then when the thing finally loads, not a single item inside the folder window is click-able. Under "Sharing and Discovery" there are the options for "Network Discovery," "File Sharing," etc. I can't click the drop-down arrows for any of those options nor can I click any of the options on the side of the window. I can't even close the window without going into Task Manager and sometimes that doesn't even work so I have to reboot the computer.

Network of two computers, a desktop running vista home premium and a laptop running vista basic. I am the only user on each of the computers, my user account name is the same on both computers and I don't need a password to log on. File sharing is 'on', password protected sharing is 'off', and I have shared the 'documents' folder on both machines
When I view my network I see both computers "PAUL-PC" and PAUL-LAPTOP", when I select the one I'm not working on I see "Users", "Documents" and "Printers". When I select "Documents" I see "\PAUL-LAPTOPDocuments is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource....... etc."

I would like to set up a single set of Windows Contacts which can be used by the two users on my machine, such that any changes made by one of them is visible to both. I have tried creating a shared contacts folder but Windows Mail will not
then treat this as the Windows Contacts folder for email purposes. Does anyone know of any obvious solutions I am missing?

I am having is I cannot acess my laptop with windows sharing/networking.I am trying to share files and printers between my Dexktop PC and my Laptop. My desktop PC is connect to a router with DNS by cable and the laptop is connected by Wi-Fi.Both computers belong to the same workgroup(WORKGROUP).Both computers have password protected public folder and printer sharing, file sharing, network discovery, and password protected sharing enabled. Both computers do have shared files and printers. What's happening is from the laptop the desktop(RK-PC)appears and I can share files and printers flawlessly and very quickly. However from the desktop while the laptop (RYANK-MOBILE) appears it cannot be accessed at all. Also the desktop is vista 64 bit and the laptop is vista business.I saw another thread with the same problem but the response pointed to a tome of an article that explained every single facet of windows sharing down to the way the packets are constructed. To be honest I don't have time to read 100 pages on windows sharing and there is no way the problem is the complicated.None of the suggestions I read in the first five pages or so helped at all any ways.I tried changing netBIOS from default to disabled on both PCs but after doing this the result was normal function on the laptop as before but the desktop could no longer even see/discover the laptop on the network.

DVD movie still plays essential role in our audio/video daily life in spite of prosperity of online video and handheld devices. The problem is that DVD movie is not editable and you can only watch the movie the way it is presented on the disk. This is a time of individual customization and showing your own style, why not tries to edit a movie and watch it in whatever way you like. To edit the DVD movie, you need to convert DVD to AVI firstly and then import the exported AVI videos to Adobe Premiere, Windows Movie Maker, and Sony Vegas etc. First let us start from what is AVI.
About AVI. AVI stands for Audio Video Interleave Which is defined by Microsoft. It
can work as a container to be embedded with different codec, such as DivX, XviD, etc. The AVI video generally brings high quality, but occupies larger disk space. It is suitable for further video editing........

I also have a network sharing service problem - Vista displays, occasion (and I havent worked out WHAT occasions yet): "windows media player network sharing service stopped working and was closed" - followed by some bulls£$t about windows informing me of a solution when it becomes available. This pop up appears relentlessly - about once every 30 seconds, and i can see the system performance hitting 100% CPU for 5 seconds or so each time it does.

There are discussions on this general subject but no aparent resolution. About two months ago I was sometimes prevented from opening photo attachments on some emails received from the same party and sometimes could open them. By this I mean, I would click on the paperclip where a list of photos would appear and I'd click on on photo and I'd get a message saying: "Windows cannot find file name (photo captions used by sender).jpg. Make sure your typed the name correctly and then try again." Well, of course I didn't type the file name; the sender did. I could click on the save attachments, and once saved to a folder I could open them from the folder. I forwarded the mail to others, and they report no problems in viewing the photos. I can also view the photos in the email itself, but it would be necessary to scan up and down and from left to right to view the whold photo and the caption would not appear.

I click on view full map in Network and Sharing center on Vista, and I can see all the XP computers (because I installed the LLTD fix) sometimes I can click on the computers, sometimes I can't. I don't know why that is. Next, clicking on "View computers and devices" only shows my Laptop and router. Sometimes the other computers show up too, usually after a few tries or refreshes. When the XP computers do show up, and I double click to try to view the shared folders, I get the following error:
"Windows cannot access \Computer Name. Check the spelling of the name. Otherwise, there might be a problem with your network. To try to identify and resolve network problems, click Diagnose. Error code: 0x80070005 Access is denied."
Clicking on diagnose says this: "Windows did not find any problems with this computer's network connection." My firewalls are set to allow computers on the network. I've even turned them off and just let Windows Firewall do it's thing. I really don't understand the spelling error. I think if that can be fixed,
the network would work just fine.

I've a web site url that apparently is unreachable from my PC (dhcp reserved address), MS Windows Vista Business and IE8, ONLY this website. I checked firewall and antivirus settings, i tried to bypass firewall, but problem persist. I changed from DHCP to Fixed IP, i changed DNS, but none. I also tried from Firefox / Chrome, same problem. Apparently the site is resolved from DNS but then not reachable. The tracert command shows that the request expire immediately, so it seems that the
request remains local and is not forwarded outside from my PC....
I've another PC, Windows XP Pro SP3, IE7 (also this dhcp reserved), it's joined in the same domain, so same dchp - dns - gateway and firewall rules...., same problem. This PC is a dual boot with Debian 5, so i tried to boot in linux and surprise...with Firefox that website opens immediately...and the tracert command shows that it is reachable among 4 nodes.... In linux the dhcp and the ip released is the same as XP....so it points to same default gateway and dns.....

Frequently I can't open Windows Mail. I discovered that it's still running in the background under Processes but it's not showing in Applications. The only way I can open Mail is the shut down WinMail.exe in processes. Does anyone know if there's a fix for this or is it just one of those glitches that Vista has? This only started happening a few months ago.

The computer has worked fine since then, I've used the internet at wi-fi hotspots around my city, with never a single problem...until last night. While I was on-line at home, I was checking a website that I have always checked before without issue when my Windows Defender suddenly popped open and said that my computer was under threat and blocked Internet Explorer from me and started running a diagnosic. Well apparently it said that I had like 26 infections in my computer. That I had worms, spyware, adware, that someone was watching my key logs, etc, etc, and it gave me the option to click on the remove all. So I clicked on it, but instead of doing anything, another message box appeared saying that my Windows Defender is not the full version and that I must either purchase the full version or enter my key code for it. I don't have a key code since I never bought this program, was pre-installed.
Anyways, now whenever I try to open Internet Explorer, the Windows Defender pops up and says that my IE is infected and asks if I would like to purchase the full Windows Defender. I have clicked on both options. If I say "no", the computer blocks my IE, if I say yes, it opens my IE, but instead of taking me to a Windows website, it takes me to www.antivirus-care.com, which my browser says does not exist and instead takes me to another page with a listing of anti-virus program sites to buy from. Well, all this seems fishy to me because I can't do anything with the Windows Defender program. I can't turn it off, I can't change its settings, or even look at other options it has. Instead whenever I try the message window of "would I like to buy the full version now?" appears and keeps appearing.

I am having problems getting attachments to open on my Windows Mail. This started about a week ago right after I had to re-install McAfee Antivirus. I thought it had something to do with that so I went into it and disabled the email scan. It did not fix the problem. I also had SpySweeper installed on my computer but was told that with McAfee, I did not need it. So, I uninstalled it and it still didn't fix the problem. I also went into tools>options>security and made sure the option for "Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus" was not checked and it isn't.

Have done this many times and seems that the correct icon is listed though when I go through the "change file association", the check box for "associate all the time" is greyed out so I cannot check it. If I save the attachments to the desktop, they open just fine but I want to be able to open them in Windows Mail. I saw the fix for .doc attachments. Is there one for exe also? Would I have to fix each extension/file type that I wish to open while in Window Mail.

Recently my Vista Home Premium's Windows Mail developed a(nother) new problem. When I click on an attachment, it does not open. My left click is ignored. I keep current with upgrades. This laptop has always had a screwy copy of windows. I'm looking forward to Windows 7. I hope it has drivers for my 2+ year old Acer Aspire 5610. But I'll lose about 20% of my apps, because I either don't have the CD's
anymore, or I downloaded the app.

Live Mail works great, but sometimes when I've used Live Mail and closed it and opened it, it doesn't won't to start.
What I have to do is to go in to the Task Manager, and in the Process List are there 2 or 3 wlmail.exe *32 (Windows Live Mail) opened.
If I close down all these ones I'm able to open Windows Live Mail again.
Does anyone else have the same problem and have a solution to this problem. It's kind of annoying to have to go in to the Task Manager and close down the program, even though I've closed down Windows Live Mail completely before.
