I keep getting a message that this update is ready to install. I have installed it about 10 times, but after it is installed, I get the update icon and the same update is there ready to be installed. The User Profile Service Service Failed The Login

Jan 24, 2010

I have the following error message when trying to login to vista on my laptop:

The User Profile Service service failed the login.

User profile cannot be loaded.

Just before the problem happened I was working to remove the Anti Virus Live virus from my laptop via the techsupportforum.com forum.

Two things I did within the hour of the problem happening are:

1. I ran the malware removal program OTL

See step 5 at (http://tinyurl.com/pr92qn)

2. I cleared and set system restore's cash-

as instructed in post#23 on my techsupportforum.com thread

(Anti Virus Live on my Laptop - Page 2 - Tech Support Forum)

Further details-I can and am able to login to Safe Mode I do not have a program called System Restore in the System Tools folder In Safe Mode I was able to change my password, but in normal mode I get the same error message I did windows updates and then tried to remove some of those updates, with only a few files that wouldn't allow me to delete them. Thank you for visiting my thread. If anyone has any ideas on how I can fix my problem it would be great to hear about them.

Windows Search Service And Indexing Service Do Not Work

Jul 23, 2007

Also my Windows Search service does not start. When I try to start it, I get these errors in the event log:

1. "The Windows Search Service cannot open the Jet property store.

The content index server cannot update or access information because of a database error. Stop and restart the search service. If the problem persists, reset and recrawl the content index. In some cases it may be necessary to delete and recreate the content index. (0x8004117f)"

2. "The Windows Search Service has failed to created the new system catalog. Internal error <4,0x8004117f>."

I'm totally lost as how to solve this problem. I spent hours on the web trying to find a solution, with no luck sofar. Anyone here who has a clue how to solve this one?

Service That Fails To Start (Bonjour Service)

Apr 16, 2008

I use Vista Ultimate 64.

For the past few weeks I've been having an issue with an Apple made service called "Bonjour Service". That service is used in several pieces of software including iTunes (which I do not use) but also some Adobe applications (Version Cue for example) and the font management utility I use which is Extensis Suitcase 11.0.1 for Windows.

Both Version Cue and Suitcase depend on the Bonjour Service to work and I have had no issues with it for months but recently, the Bonjour Service stopped working and would not start anymore. It now gives this error message when trying to start it:

"('Bonjour Service' failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services."

My user account is an admin account so privileges is not an issue. I had made no changes to my system myself before the Bonjour service began to "refuse" starting but I remember that I installed a few Windows updates a couple days prior. My machine is always on and I don't re-boot everyday.

So I was wondering if anyone has heard of the issue and knows how I might fix it or if anyone can give me pointers on how I my start trouble shooting this and find what started preventing the Bonjour Service from starting. FWIW, the Windows Firewall is already off and turning off my anti-virus doesn't help (Eset NOD32).

Vista X64 Or Win7?

Mar 28, 2009

I need to make a decision within the next 3 days or so.

I have a new HP XW8600 dual Quad Core with 16GB Ram with ATI 4780HD Toxic GPU and a Raid 5 with Cheetahs T10.

I will almost exclusively use it for Video editing with the Matrox Axio HD Board. To me speed is very important because of long rendering times it sometime take.

Vista X64 is fully supported and tested by Matrox with the hardware I have, so a pretty safe bet. However I have a few friends who are trying to pursuade me into installing Win7 instead, because it supposedly is much faster and since it uses a lot of the Vista engine it still is reliable/stable and it uses the same drivers as Vista X64 .

Why This Should Be The Win7 Newsgroup

Nov 15, 2009

Having steadily used Win 7 since the first public I entirely sympathize with those who label it Vista SP3.It is not significantly faster than Vista 64 SP2 on the same hardware and uses the same drivers. It hiccoughs over many of the same obstacles. When a device manufacturer, for example Canon, markets a "new printer" but it uses the same inks as prior generation printers, Canon is doing nothing more than selling the the old print engine in a new box.The reason Win 7 came out so "fast" by Microsoft standards is that mostly they just grafted a tweaked UI onto Vista SP2.Vista SP2 is the engine that runs Win 7: new or old/new?

Upgrading To Win7 From

May 15, 2010

I am running an OEM copy of Vista Ultimate x64. By OEM, I mean I bought the disc that OEM's use to install windows onto a ready built machine. Anyway, I'm eligible to upgrade straight to Windows 7 Ultimate x64.

My questions are, once I have upgraded to Win 7 will it be using a new Product Key? And would I be able to do a clean install of Vista Ultimate on another PC and use the original product key?

X86 Upgrade To Win7 X64

Dec 13, 2009

I have purchased an Acer Aspire 6930G laptop that came with Vista x86 (32 bit) installed but with a free 'upgrade' to Windows 7 x86. I have a 'desktop' and an update copy of Windows 7 (legit) that came with both 32 and 64 bit disks. I have installed the 64 bit version onto the desktop. I want to install the 64 bit version of Win7 onto my laptop but Microsoft insist they will only provide the 32 bit version as I am 'updating' from a 32 bit version. (seems that they are being simply bloody minded). can I successfully install the 64 bit version (I have the disk) and activate it using the 'key' that will come with the 32 bit OEM upgrade? The possible problem I anticipate is the 32 bit version will be an OEM version whereas the 64 bit disk that I have is of the MS vanilla variety.

I note that the serial number of Vista loaded onto the laptop includes the designator OEM. Does that mean that any key used to register the OS will need to have a similar key, that is including the designator OEM. While I know I will not be abiding strictly to the terms of the license by doing what I want to do, there is no loss to Microsoft. In my opinion I am not denying Microsoft of anything to which they are entitled..

Installed WIn7 RC Vs IMO, Er EYE

Jul 11, 2009

So I installed WI7 RC, I'm not going to mention which build I use it's Ultimate. That much I'll say. Runs all 8 GIGs of my Uber RAM Well I like it. It's not expensive, and you need to know your BIOS well to get Optimal Performance with it, but if you do, and I do. It ROX. Fast as all get out. So I'm just checking it out have it pre-ordered. Waiting on Oct is all. But, then, lets get down to what I wanted to get at, Vista vs WIN7 RC. Which is real close to what the final release will be. So having said that I conclude that I love Vista still, but think I'll LOVE Win7 just as much,. However that doesn't mean that I like everything they did (they= MS Geeks). I don't care for how the wallpaper is hadled in Win7, it involves more steps to just do save a Wallpaper and W7 always wants to call everything a Theme. I don't like Themes, changing background auto pilot yada, yada. I like just what I like, I don't use any stock THEMES at all, and will delete them all. I make a ton of my own wallpapers, and this is FUN for this Monster. For example I made a few Stubbs Walls that I love and use a lot. As I like BRAINS!! Must have BRAINS!! Yum, Yum, BRAINS!!

I also get many from the WEB and my Buds like Muff1n. Think he needs another REP point now that I think of it, myself, could give a Rats A$$ about REP points. Ok that's not really true 100%, I'd like to have a few, but folks are stingy (sp?) with them. IMWHO. Vista Boot time, not to impressed with, but is a slightly longer Boot time a big deal? I suppose if your in some big Damn hurry. which I never am. Life way to short to sweat the small stuff. Furthermore or Moreover which ever you Like. Vista may just be thinking More. I have Vista w/sp2, it's improved a lot since it's introduction. That is not MHO, that is FACT, Jack. LOL 'Nuff Said. One of the mod types here or at the sister Forum Win7, I get them mixed up easy. Anyhow I posted a little tiny thread about a Fee Poster, it was a JOKE, but apparently was not seen as such, Not sure? I can't find it for the Life of me. Is all I know. Then again anything I post here is lost in seconds, I'm surprised this is here while I typewrite.................................

Right now I am looking for WindowsMailGadget.exe in Windows Mail folder and if this is present I assume that the installation is
proper? Is there any other way I can figure out that Windows Mail is not completely installed?

Should I Go Back To Ultimate From Win7?

Mar 2, 2009

Should I move back to Vista Ultimate from Windows 7? I like em both, but can't decided which one to use. Windows 7 does almost everything I want except play a few games, which Vista does. The only problem with both Vista Ultimate and Win7 is that neither likes my onboard surround sound, which Linux detected and had it worked perfectly. I've probably formatted and reformatted this drive over 50 times since I got it in December and I still can't figure out what I want on it. I did tri-boot at one point, but it just got to un-organized I had to stop it.

Multiboot Win7, Uninstall Later?

May 11, 2009

I already have my computer set up to multiboot XP and Vista. I've decided to try out Windows 7. What I have planned to do, is just pop in another hard drive, formatt it, and install windows 7 onto it, leaving my system a multiboot of WinXP, Vista and 7. Now since Win7 is just a beta, I'll not want to leave it on my system when a new RC comes out, it expires, or I purchase the full version.

So my question is, if I install win7 as my 3rd multiboot option, will it be possible to uninstall it at a later date without affecting my other winxp and vista partitions? I'll probably have to run a fix mbr command, right?

BUG Explorer does not show the new thumbnail, if you have changed, cropped, resized a jpg. you cannot tell which file is newer if you have copies of one and the same file, you need to compare date/time and filesize....

Perhaps That's Why They Are Pushing Hard To Get Win7 Ready

Apr 25, 2008

I just wonder if he has been tempered by all the people asking him "what is it with that vista, why did you release it with so many problems?" questions by friends and technical savvy folk. I'm sure he might not be accepting how bad vista is out in the open. but he has a problematic product in his hands.. If we had a way to snoop into what he really thinks about vista, I think it would be a big surprise for fanboys. I'm sure he is wishing vista would just go away... perhaps that's why they are pushing hard to get win7 ready.
