View 4 Replies View RelatedI have tried to set up an email acount with microsoft windows, but only got as far as receiving an error report. I filled in POP3 on the first part of the server dialogue box and SM(P?)T on the second box. These were complete random guesses as I have no idea what they mean or what the correct ones are, far less how to find them. Why do they have to make these systems so difficult? How do I find out this information?

I have been using windows mail with my current ISP for a few years with no issues. Suddenly when I try and replicate I get the following message: Account: 'pop3.slingshot.co.nz', Server: 'pop3.slingshot.co.nz', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC19
I have tried turning off my anti virus (avast)
I have created new accounts
I have turned off my firewall
I have deleted all new emails on my web mail account
I have spoken to my ISP
I am now alomost ready to go postal. Just found that a test email I sent from Hotmail came through OK, but one from my work email again caused the above error.
I cannot send email using windows mail. It says errors with outlook express and the followining error message. Account: 'pop3', Server: '110', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC19

the host SMTP could not be found. please verify that you have entered the server correctly. I get the same message for the POP3 error message. so the questions are as follows:
1. what are the live server addresses?
2. where do i go in and change them?
I need to make a decision within the next 3 days or so.
I have a new HP XW8600 dual Quad Core with 16GB Ram with ATI 4780HD Toxic GPU and a Raid 5 with Cheetahs T10.
I will almost exclusively use it for Video editing with the Matrox Axio HD Board. To me speed is very important because of long rendering times it sometime take.
Vista X64 is fully supported and tested by Matrox with the hardware I have, so a pretty safe bet. However I have a few friends who are trying to pursuade me into installing Win7 instead, because it supposedly is much faster and since it uses a lot of the Vista engine it still is reliable/stable and it uses the same drivers as Vista X64 .
Where are the Win7 newsgroups hiding?
View 9 Replies View RelatedHaving steadily used Win 7 since the first public I entirely sympathize with those who label it Vista SP3.It is not significantly faster than Vista 64 SP2 on the same hardware and uses the same drivers. It hiccoughs over many of the same obstacles. When a device manufacturer, for example Canon, markets a "new printer" but it uses the same inks as prior generation printers, Canon is doing nothing more than selling the the old print engine in a new box.The reason Win 7 came out so "fast" by Microsoft standards is that mostly they just grafted a tweaked UI onto Vista SP2.Vista SP2 is the engine that runs Win 7: new or old/new?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am running an OEM copy of Vista Ultimate x64. By OEM, I mean I bought the disc that OEM's use to install windows onto a ready built machine. Anyway, I'm eligible to upgrade straight to Windows 7 Ultimate x64.
My questions are, once I have upgraded to Win 7 will it be using a new Product Key? And would I be able to do a clean install of Vista Ultimate on another PC and use the original product key?
I have purchased an Acer Aspire 6930G laptop that came with Vista x86 (32 bit) installed but with a free 'upgrade' to Windows 7 x86. I have a 'desktop' and an update copy of Windows 7 (legit) that came with both 32 and 64 bit disks. I have installed the 64 bit version onto the desktop. I want to install the 64 bit version of Win7 onto my laptop but Microsoft insist they will only provide the 32 bit version as I am 'updating' from a 32 bit version. (seems that they are being simply bloody minded). can I successfully install the 64 bit version (I have the disk) and activate it using the 'key' that will come with the 32 bit OEM upgrade? The possible problem I anticipate is the 32 bit version will be an OEM version whereas the 64 bit disk that I have is of the MS vanilla variety.
I note that the serial number of Vista loaded onto the laptop includes the designator OEM. Does that mean that any key used to register the OS will need to have a similar key, that is including the designator OEM. While I know I will not be abiding strictly to the terms of the license by doing what I want to do, there is no loss to Microsoft. In my opinion I am not denying Microsoft of anything to which they are entitled..
So I installed WI7 RC, I'm not going to mention which build I use it's Ultimate. That much I'll say. Runs all 8 GIGs of my Uber RAM Well I like it. It's not expensive, and you need to know your BIOS well to get Optimal Performance with it, but if you do, and I do. It ROX. Fast as all get out. So I'm just checking it out have it pre-ordered. Waiting on Oct is all. But, then, lets get down to what I wanted to get at, Vista vs WIN7 RC. Which is real close to what the final release will be. So having said that I conclude that I love Vista still, but think I'll LOVE Win7 just as much,. However that doesn't mean that I like everything they did (they= MS Geeks). I don't care for how the wallpaper is hadled in Win7, it involves more steps to just do save a Wallpaper and W7 always wants to call everything a Theme. I don't like Themes, changing background auto pilot yada, yada. I like just what I like, I don't use any stock THEMES at all, and will delete them all. I make a ton of my own wallpapers, and this is FUN for this Monster. For example I made a few Stubbs Walls that I love and use a lot. As I like BRAINS!! Must have BRAINS!! Yum, Yum, BRAINS!!
I also get many from the WEB and my Buds like Muff1n. Think he needs another REP point now that I think of it, myself, could give a Rats A$$ about REP points. Ok that's not really true 100%, I'd like to have a few, but folks are stingy (sp?) with them. IMWHO. Vista Boot time, not to impressed with, but is a slightly longer Boot time a big deal? I suppose if your in some big Damn hurry. which I never am. Life way to short to sweat the small stuff. Furthermore or Moreover which ever you Like. Vista may just be thinking More. I have Vista w/sp2, it's improved a lot since it's introduction. That is not MHO, that is FACT, Jack. LOL 'Nuff Said. One of the mod types here or at the sister Forum Win7, I get them mixed up easy. Anyhow I posted a little tiny thread about a Fee Poster, it was a JOKE, but apparently was not seen as such, Not sure? I can't find it for the Life of me. Is all I know. Then again anything I post here is lost in seconds, I'm surprised this is here while I typewrite.................................
Soon it will be time to name Windows 7 since Vista flunked out. Now if Win 7 is bloated and eats ram then we can name it Oink.

We have an application which allows to add email accounts to default email client installed in the machine. We are getting the default email client information from the registry. In Win7, the registry entries for Windows mail are present even though the actual application is not usable. Right now I am looking for WindowsMailGadget.exe in Windows Mail folder and if this is present I assume that the installation is
proper? Is there any other way I can figure out that Windows Mail is not completely installed?
Should I move back to Vista Ultimate from Windows 7? I like em both, but can't decided which one to use. Windows 7 does almost everything I want except play a few games, which Vista does. The only problem with both Vista Ultimate and Win7 is that neither likes my onboard surround sound, which Linux detected and had it worked perfectly. I've probably formatted and reformatted this drive over 50 times since I got it in December and I still can't figure out what I want on it. I did tri-boot at one point, but it just got to un-organized I had to stop it.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have downloaded the ISO file for Win7, and have burned an install DVD. My intention is to do an upgrade from Vista SP1, but I'm wondering: What is the simplest (best?) way to revert to Vista, if I have to?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI already have my computer set up to multiboot XP and Vista. I've decided to try out Windows 7. What I have planned to do, is just pop in another hard drive, formatt it, and install windows 7 onto it, leaving my system a multiboot of WinXP, Vista and 7. Now since Win7 is just a beta, I'll not want to leave it on my system when a new RC comes out, it expires, or I purchase the full version.
So my question is, if I install win7 as my 3rd multiboot option, will it be possible to uninstall it at a later date without affecting my other winxp and vista partitions? I'll probably have to run a fix mbr command, right?
I have installed Win7 64bit on my third (last) partition, because I did not want to update Vista 32 bit. Of course it works well. But still I would like to move Win7 to the first partition, and maybe restore Vista 32 bit to the third partition. I have moved it: it did not work.I restored from a Norton Ghost restore point, and it still will not boot. Repair from the Win7 install DVD cannot fix it. Can it be done?
View 5 Replies View Relatedi created my partition and burned the iso file. DVD won't do anything from within vista 32, so i restarted and booted from the DVD, it loaded some files and then stuck on a very nice screen for 5 minutes. no activity from the DVD whatsoever. so i pulled the DVD and restarted back into vista 32. will i have to unplug the drive with the current OS until after I get win7 loaded or did i just not wait long enough?
View 8 Replies View RelatedWindows 7 is full of bugs and missing features. Some common hardware which is correctly set up by vista will need drivers and manual interactions in 7. They simply removed a ton of drivers in the 7 DVD. BUG Explorer does not show the new thumbnail, if you have changed, cropped, resized a jpg. you cannot tell which file is newer if you have copies of one and the same file, you need to compare date/time and filesize....

I'm sure he might not be accepting how bad vista is out in the open. but he has a problematic product in his hands.. If we had a way to snoop into what he really thinks about vista, I think it would be a big surprise for fanboys. I'm sure he is wishing vista would just go away... perhaps that's why they are pushing hard to get win7 ready.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am trying to upgrade my Vista system to Windows 7. However, when it checks compatability issues, it tells me I cannot upgrade a 32 bit system to the Win 7 64 bit system. Problem is my Vista system IS 64 bit (AMD Athlon 64x2 Dual Core @ 3GHz, 4GB RAM, Vista SP2). Anyone know why this is happening, and if there is anything I can do to correct this problem, or do I just return the Win7 package?

Vista is slower than XP. Win7 boots slower than Vista. Cathy's boobs are too large so she loses balance when walking. My car is too fast so can't stop properly at intersections. neighbor's child is being a child so he screams, and I hate that man... errr child. China id too large. Will you stop complaining & just get a modern computer to run a new OS? Or let's go back to DOS p- sure it can run f-g fast even on coal-powered machine.
