Unable To Format Vista Partition
Mar 1, 2010im trying to reformatt my vista partition. Because I feel like it, and its getting a bit laggy.
But anyways, I go and click on computer->vista drive->format->quick format-> error unable to format.
why does this happen!

Apr 24, 2010It's unable to either normally format any external memory devices into a FAT or FAT32 format, or unable to read it at all. I keep trying to open the device but it keeps saying that i need to format it, but because of problem 1, it can't be formated (it almost completes but the process shuts down, stating that it can't be formated). This problem has been happening for the longest time and I really need this fixed.
When I say external memory devices, i mean CDs, DVDs, Flash drives, SD cards, memory card readers. Everytime I check the disk management of these devices, it says they are Primary Partitioned (which is the normal status right?). And the only thing that seems to be the problem is the RAW file system (which I heard windows doesn't read)............
USB Drive Unable To Complete Format
May 31, 2008Just received a USB drive today from ebay 8 gig drive. Upon putting it into my computer it comes up as unformatted. So press format and errors at the end (unable to complete format). Then tried to format the drive via computer management in admin tools. All goes OK - 8 Gig showing. Copied 6.5 Gig onto it to test, and only some of the files work. About 2 Gig of AVI work but the others open as corrupted - same problem on my PS3. Thinking its either faulty or got a feeling its a fake 2 Gig. If its fake can you somehow restore the orginal boot / bios to get it back (better than nothing i suppose). Eneco flash drive 2.10 16777216 lba

Jul 30, 2009I have an issue on my Gateway Laptop computer model MT6832B which has an Opiarc ad-7530a DVD RW drive. I also have the same issue on my DELL Dimension E520 with a TSST corp DVD+- RW TS -H653A drive. Both Computers are running on Vista Home Premium Service Pack2
When I try to format either a Philips DVD+RW disk or a Panasonic DVD-R disk, on either machine, after apparently going through the formatting procedure I get a message that Windows was unable to complete the format. It is strange that the identical issue is found on both machines. Could Vista be causing the issue? I would mention that I am able to format a CD-RW disk OK.
Unable To Format Seagate 1.5 GB Internal Drives
May 4, 2009I have a Vista Ultimate 64 bit system using an ASUS striker II formula MB, Intel core 2 quad 2.66 mh CPU, 8 GB RAM. It was setup with 2 320 GB Seagate drives and a 500 GB Seagate drive in a RAID. A week and a half ago when shutting down the system, I got the install updates message. I clicked OK. Upon return, I found the system still running showing the BIOS screen. After reboot, I had a no operating system error. Using the Vista DVD to attempt repair, yielded a corrupt partition error. I attempted to reinstall Vista on one 320 GB drive. This gave a disk boot failure. After trying this and that, I ran chkdsk during boot which fixed the error. I want to recover my data. To facilitate recovery, I purchased 2 1.5 GB Seagate drives. I have attempted to format the drives using computer management and safe mode with command prompt. The drives will get to 73% format but no farther.

If I save a .pdf attachment in Adobe Reader and then try to open it, I get a message saying, "Adobe Reader could not open [file] because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded)." I run Adobe Reader 8. Where do I look to find a solution to this problem? Is it related to the similar problem with JPEG's?
Erase Everything Off?
Sep 28, 2009i was retarded and lost my vista cd that came with the PC. Two moves..sigh you know the deal, anyway what if i wanted to erase everything off my pc cept for vista, is there a way to do it(beside doing it one by one in the program thingy. Not just programs too, i mean everything. I was to start fresh. Or is there a way to format without getting rid of vista, or whatever.

Reinstalling Vista Erase Existing Files Could Not Save Data
Sep 17, 2008I may have to re-install the Vista operating system on my primary hard drive. According to Dell, installing/re-installing Vista will erase any existing files (gee, why couldn't they have configured Vista like XP which would save your data?).So as not to loose my files, my plan is to install a new primary hard drive. And once the new drive is functioning properly, to add the old one as a data only secondary drive (The drive hasn't failed, it's just inaccessable due to a user logon password issue which I'm working in another thread). Does anyone see a problem with reading the data files/folders on the old drive? Will the existance of an operating system be a problem? I'm hoping the drive will act as a ghosted drive, and the answer will be no.

Can't Log Into User Account Fully

Sep 11, 2009one day last week, my vista x64 machine stopped going into sleep mode. Whenever I select sleep, the screen goes black, but the system never powers off - it just sits there, still running. If i move the mouse, the screen comes back on, almost like it never went into sleep mode at all.
I've got all updated drivers & BIOS for the motherboard (Asus Crosshair II formula) It's really wierd - I can't think of anything I did to cause this. I'm actually kind of getting fed up with vista (this isn't the only "random" problem I've had with vista, and I'll tell you XP, for all its faults, ran perfectly fine)
I'd really like to get this working, as I have a ****tily-paying job and would like to reduce my power bill as much as I can. I know I could just power the entire computer down, but I'm lazy and, well, I guess I expect features that exist to, you know, work.

Mar 26, 2008All new accounts I create on Vista home premium do not login properly. When a user logs in the explorer.exe process does not start (the user just sees blank blue screen). It is possible to launch the task manager and start processes by hand. I found a suggestion on another post that said there was an incorrect "Shell" registry entry that could be the cause of the problem, but that was not the case here. The Shell key is correctly set to "explorer.exe". If the users log in under safe mode, the desktop loads correctly.
