UAC Re-enabling Itself?

May 5, 2008

I turned off UAC on my parents' new computer a couple days ago. Yesterday, my dad encountered some spyware while browsing (he called me over and I noticed that Firefox had somehow gone to onlinexpscanner.com and downloaded a suspicious executable, and there was a prompt to run the program). I am now trying to figure out if any spyware got installed onto the computer. The first thing I have noticed is that UAC is now enabled, even though I had disabled it a couple days ago. How did that happen? Could any Windows updates have re-enabled it?

ENABLING Log On At Startup

Aug 20, 2009

I had my laptop out for repairs, and when I got it back they had enabled the auto log on at startup. I don't like this because that way anyone could get into my computer when they turn it on.

How do I DIS-able this? I've found plenty of sites that enables it, but I don't want it on. Undoing the checkmark in the place that does it on Vista doesn't seem to do the trick.

SLI Enabling Two Different Cards.

Jan 1, 2010

I own an ASUS CG5290, and it came with an ASUS Rampage II Gene motherboard, an ASUS GTX 260 896mb graphics card, 9 gbs of ram, and an i7 running at 2.66. My video card was acting up so I decided to purchase a BFG GTX 275 896mb GDDR3 and picked up a 900w power supply. Then as I was installed it, I noticed that my PSU said something about being SLI ready and I looke up on to that. Can my computer dual run 2 different cards? An ASUS GTX 260 and a BFG GTX 275?

Enabling Aero, The Graphics Get Sluggish?

Jun 12, 2006

I've just installed Beta 2 (5384) and I'm so far very happy with it. All of my hardware is fully functioning even with some of it using XP drivers. I've installed the nVidia drivers 88.61 for my Geforce 6800GT w/ 256MB RAM. After enabling Aero, the graphics are terribly sluggish. I can't drag a window without it jumping around. My resolution is 1680x1050. Is there something I'm missing? I've checked the supported GPU lists and there's tons of cards slower than mine that support Aero. Is this just a stupid list of what will "work" but not what will perform well?

Re-enabling Hibernation After Disk Cleanup?

Jan 5, 2010

I know about powercfg -h on. It doesn't work. Disk cleanup deleted the hibernation file, now when I put that line in the command prompt it tells me: "Hibernation failed with the following error: Access is denied. The following items are preventing hibernation on this system. The system could not create the hibernation file. The specific error code is 0xc0000022."I am an admin account, running the cmd.exe as an admin. Doing this in safe mode produces a different error which I can post if you want (along the lines of a VGAsave). There are no options in the control panel remotely relating to hibernation. Is there any alternate way to enable hibernation or to get the powercfg tool to work as it is intended?

Enabling Windows Mail In Windows 7

Nov 9, 2008

Some people Running the Windows 7 Pre Beta 6801 have been asking about Windows Mail in Windows seven and where they can find it. The strange thing is it is there but it's hidden and doesn't do anything when you click on it, although you will see it in task manager, so if you do want Windows Mail this is what you have to do. First go to folder options and deselect hide protected operating system files and do not show hidden files, you will now be able to see the Windows Mail executable file which was previously hidden. Next go to your programs folder and Windows Mail folder and take Ownership of all the files in there, you will need to do this one file at a time and Don't Forget to Give Yourself FULL CONTROL of each file. Just in case there is another fix for this in the Future you may want to make a copy of this folder and keep it somewhere Once you have taken ownership and given yourself full control copy all your files from Vista's Windows Mail folder and paste and replace ALL of the files in Windows 7 Mail folder. That's it and DON'T try to click on the Original Hidden WinMail.exe file, if you do you will not be able to replace it, as it will run and you wont see anything but you will still need to kill the process in task manager.
